  1. You really make that Venture work for its living don't you? The poor thing already has a sidecar on it plus its pulling a trailer with another sidecar loaded onto it. Its a good thing these 1st Gen's are made bloody strong!
  2. Thr problem Redneck is that you see this problem is from the point of view of a small business owner that pays his bills and doesn't borrow money hand over fist. The problem for mangement is that all these guys make millions and none of them feel thay have to sacrifice anything. Its been shown to us in labor over and over again. Right after we sign a contract giving back pay or benefite the company hands out bonus'. Aftwer the depression there were no plans to help companies instead the governement created jobs and taxed the rich to pay for them. This was FDR's new deal the Conservatives have been working to dismantle it for years calling it Communisn, Socialism etc. Corporate leaders could have stopped it but didn't. By simply keeping a balance between labor and profits but the companies shipped more and more jobs over seas to increase profit while still losing market because foreign manufacturers in 3rd world nations aren't neccesarily cheaper when their quality is poor. In the last 20 years there has been more and more deregulation and with it has come more corruption, businss failures( S&L scandal during the Reagan adminn.) and then Government bailing out the Companies while the workers in those companies still lose jobs. We Americans flip out with fear when we think we might go Socialist or Communist. But two of the Richest economnies in the world are Socialist know what they are? England and Hungary. England we all know the pound is the strongest currency in Europe but Hungary is the quiet little Communst engie that could. After it revolted in 1956 all it asked of Russia was to develop its own kind of communism/socialism and it did. With out the Stalinist extremes that destroyed the Russian economy the Hungarians built a health economy that allows pivate business ownerhip along with govenrment programs. It also allows interaction with its economic neigbhors. I don't want to see thing as they've been either but If the car companies don't reduce their Burden ( thats what management pay is refered to on the comopany books then the companies won't survive. As i said in another thread Burden is the problem not labor.
  3. Gambia ,Ohio???
  4. its the nature of all thing that delicious irony!
  5. I loved that i'm still laughing.
  6. Here's an idea i read about in rider magazine years ago . i tried it and it works great. Buy a box of Neoprene rubber gloves like some of us wear when working on our cars and bikes. Put on the rubber gloves first then a good pair of gauntlets the neoprene really helps hold in the heat. Try it it works!

    Branched Out

Nice wing lucky guy! My favorite color too.
  8. Phew! I was holding my breath! So glad to hear Alan is fine and on his way back safely. let Him know we were all worried and praying for him.
  9. Strider you hit the nail on the head. I still feel that direct decentant of the Old 1st gen is the Fjr1300 even if the engine is an in line 4 When yo look at the saddle bags on the FJR they definitely got their inspiration from the the 1st Gen along with its sport oriented nature. Yamaha took one great bike (the 1st. Gen) and made two, the 2nd gen and the FJR.
  10. No the whole point is to force the companies in INVEST money and keep it out of managements pockets. Any money given to the companies should be on condition that bonuses are frozen, Upper management pay is cut to world standards and the European and japanese models be implemented . This is what Triumph did and look how that company has come back?

    Still missing

Renate, it could be many things and not all of them bad . We re all praying for Alan and hope all is well. I'm surprised that with so many LEO's on this sight that no one might have some connections that might be able to get any info out of Alaska about someone that may have broke down or run into some kind of difficulty. Come on guys is there any of our Brothers in blue with connections in Alaska that can help one our fellow members here with her worries about her Loved one?
  12. Good thing i waited before I made my reservation. Thanks for the update Brad.
  13. I wonder if those idiots that send those things realize realize how stupid they make the rest if Nigerians look by continually sending those scam messages out even after there has been extensive coverage of them for the last ten years. The only thing that might be sadder is someone thats totally unaware of these scams and stupid or greedy enough to buy into it.
  14. I'm on thre list too thanks! Can't wait to see it. You should check out the contest bikes . on the Star site too.

    Chaps

Hey Brad My recommendation is Hudson leathers. I bought my from them at the Americade 15 years ago and they wear like iron. If you buy them at Americade they measure you and cut the chaps to fit to make sure you get a pair that will be comfortable and last. The leather has gotten a little thinner but Hudson still sells some of the thickest leather chaps out there. Some are too thin and afford almost no protection. They come with steel or brass zippers (brass is recommended) and a belt sewn in with a buckle. Prices range from $99. to $140 but its money well spent. Just type in Hudson leathers and look at what they have. Every year when family or friends want a bargain in leather we take them to the Hudson tent.
  16. Hey Tom, Taters congratulations keep up the good work! You guys never mentioned it when we got together. My ex had to get off cigarettes and said it was WORSE that stopping drinking. I know its terribly addictive and the cravings do lessen over time. But remember its a habit and one that gets deeply ingrained into us. Its the memory of that that comes back . Just don't give into to it. Joanna and I are rooting for ya! Phil.
  17. of my second wife who sprained her ankle just before a big rally. We bungeed her crutches to the side of her bike like a long rifle. The other riders at the rally were impressed.
  18. As you can see your on a site were there are alot of friendly people willing to help. Some with differing opinions which is good becasuse it will give you a wealth of ideas. Some might be wild goose chases but then at least you know that wasn't the problem. Anyway you'll find advise and parts here as some members buy bikes for parts for thier own fixes and sell off the rest to off set costs. Check the site often and eventually a part or an answer will come your way.
  19. I thought I'd start a new thread here to make sure Thom knows when we've gotten our Buckles. Well at least for some of us that don't live that close to him or have his phone number. So Thom I just wanted you to know that my belt buckle arived today here in New York and it looks great. I'll wear it with pride. It was money well spent. thanks PJ.
  20. Bummer amd Snarley Bill hit the nail on the head and thats the last i have to say on this thread!
  21. Looked like a Road king to me
  22. I just got back from Italy and in the bike magazine they have an ad for a scoot that looks almost as long. I'm still not sure if it was a joke or not but i saw the same ad in two different magazinesyou can see is on www.tucanourbano.com.
  23. But A&W root beer is even better! And there still are a few independently oprated stores around the country. There's one In Lake George New York home of the Americade and we usally stop at least once for a big frosty mug, bacon cheese burgers and hot dogs. They even serve fish and fried clam dinners. Man my mouths watering even as i remember that!
  24. Have you guys been reading any of this thread or are you just jumping in to spout off about why you think car prices are so high??!! Unions aren't perfect but believe me what the got workers was slim pickens compared to what corporate was scooping off the top. What amazes me is how many people are so quick to blame husbands and wives, fellow workers in this country from making $40 to 60 thousand dollars a year while some mangers, Board members and CEO were making 10-20 up to 100 times more and that is no exaggeration! Oh and by the way Nissan and Toyota Offer their people competitive wages Up to and including 20 to 25 dollars an hour. Why? Because they know if they didn't the unions would be there. Rightfully so. Not to sound alarmist but if all the unions were to go away tomorrow Corporations would start offering wages as low as the could get away with, and the economic machine would get even worst. Then who would be to blame? A well paid work force is a spending work force That is what the problem is with the economy right now and the minute the governement and corporate types realize that then and only then will the problem get better.
  25. You have many friends here. I'll bet Tom is very proud of the fact that you stood tall and didn't let the Lawyers or the insurance companies take advantage of you. Theres nothing more admirable than a strong clear headed partner. We all feel your grief though we can not share your pain. As others I'm sure have said it does lessen with time. Congratulations on winning the good fight and holding Toms good reputation high.
