  1. Here some pictures of my fiances new to her 1981 honda GL500 Silverwing. The bike is a liquid cooled V twin with shaft drive. It has the removable trunk with an extra seat and removable saddlebags. After starting out on her REBEL 250 SHE QUICKLY REALIZED IT WASN'T BIG ENOUGH. Hopefully we'll both be at Big Tom's WNY rally in August if not sooner. Carol was known as tailfeather here a couple of years agao.
  2. well lets see, the 86 needs fork seals bad. While that's being done I think I'm going to have progressive springs added to the front as well. I'd also like to add braided steel brake lines but maybe I'll save that for later. having some problems with ta racing idle. Not sure if its the throttle cable (it seems to have some play in it) or if the primary vacuum line has some cracks in it.
  3. My Lady Carol last known as Tailfeather on here has started riding again. We started with a nice 250 Rebel. She quickly realized that that was going to be too small. So it was on to craigslist where she found a pristine 1981 Honda Silverwing GL 500 interstate. With removable saddle bags and trunks its a lot like an 83-85 first Gen. Brought it home last thursday and she can't wait to get going . tomorrow we may be looking at weather in the 60's so tomorrow will be her first day in the saddle. The bug has bitten my lady pretty bad. she can't wait to get those miles underneath her.
  4. sorry to hear about your dad. lost mine 28 years ago. our prayers are with you and your family.
  5. I can say now that I've lived in small communities or country homes most of my life here in upstate New York. Never had a problem, can't tell you how many times we went to bed at nights doors unlocked. Only had a 22. rifle for plinken varments. My heart goes out to our Canadian bretheren , especial the wives and families of the two soldiers killed the last two weeks. Sadly the guy they killed was a recent convert and troubled with an extensive police record. not representative of the Muslim community at large and doing his new found faith a terrible disservice.
  6. when i bought my 86 radio was the same way. The previous owner tried to fix it but couldnt so he bought a a portable CD player with a radio and a cassette adapter. It plays pretty good even into out headsets. And, with the adapter, you can also play an MP3player through it as well. hope that helps.
  7. Looks like the wife is still riding the shadow Ace?
  8. Wow very interesting the bikes mentioned here. My son has a Maxim 750 that he's had since he was 15. and still riding it at 24. My ex had a Nighthawk 700 S , and I have a Sabre 1100 I've owned since new. The poor sabre hardly gets ridden any more but I just can bring myself to sell it because its still so fast and burly. But when i bought it back in 85 I wanted a Venture and now I have have one in the color I always wanted too.
  9. my new next door neighbor here in new york has a couple of those and loves them . swears by them. I didn't realize there was such a following. Have a Cub Cadet myself.

  14. Ask to see the total rebuild on the P40 in the back building! I also love the Adirondack area. I go every June for Americade. Not a bad road to ride in the Adirondacks.

  18. Fantastic job Spanky. Made me remember last year too. Sorry we missed it.
  19. Ditto to what Bob Said. I bought a set from a catalog (Dennis kirk)that were 8 years old. They wouldn't pass inspection the next year because of dry rot. Luckily the manufacturer sent me new set for free. Dennis Kirk offered me nothing! At 3 years those tires should be fine.
  20. If going along 104 I now live just 10 minutes south of it in Macedon N.Y. on Rochester's west side. I can escort you along this way as far as Oswego. We also have just purchased a bigger home with two more bedrooms let us now if any help is needed. I also have a Yamaha dealer near by(Filer motorsports). Avoid Cycle Stop in Rochester if repairs are needed. A friend that rode down from Canada last weekend got stuck there for four hours for a valve stem change and they had to go back because the wheel wasn't put back on straight.
  21. 50's sock hop ?!? Now that's Carols kinda music! (Tailfeather). Donovan, Little RICHIE, OH yEAH!
  22. sorry about the crash but glad you're still with us.
  23. Glen Curtiss was a pioneer in Bicycles, motorcycles and aircraft. For nine years Curtiss held the title of fastest man alive for 9 years after riding an 8cylinder bike of his own design to a speed of 139 miles an hour. There's also a replicate of that bike in the museum. There are also replicates of the first planes Curtiss ever designed that were built right there in the museum work shop by volunteers. There are also cars, boats and models every where. Curtiss also invented the motor home or pull behind trailer. Be ready to spend at least an hour there. And make sure you get to the workshop where the volunteers work restoring airplanes. There are currently two project going on. One in the main shop and another in the back shop where a Curtiss P40 that crashed 70 years ago is being loving restored. Enjoy the museum. There are also great wineries. Check out Dr. Franke's, for riesling, Damiani for reds and J.R.Wiemer for Chardonney. enjoy our area. Any questions? I'm a local limo driver I'll try to answer any questions you have. phil lepel.
  24. Hi and welcome this area is great and and You'll love it. I just finished a group ride with a great bunch of people to many of the same place steamer and others have mentioned. You can come down into the finger lakes from Rochester down Rt. 96 to Rt 332. that will tAKE YOU THROUGH cANANDAIGUA. AT the south end of town turn left onto Rt.5&20 and travel east to Rt. 364. Its a wonderful ride of hills and valleys that will take you to Guyanoga Rd. Turn right onto this road and ride it south into Branchport. This is the best part of Rt.54A that leads from Branchport to Hammondsport. Its only 35mph with hills and curves. you'll love it. Stop in hammondsport for Lunch or continue to where Rt. 54 and 54A meet. At that light turn right and you see the Curtiss museum within a mile. When leaving the museum turn left to head north. Rt 54 2will take you to Penn Yan or take the right turn toward Watkins glen. Another great and scenic ride east to the famous village of Watkins glen. There eat at the Seneca Station on the lake . Great food. Walk the Glen its beautiful and stay at the Seneca lodge if you can get a room. if you need help or an escort contact me here. you can look up mu personal info and give me a call. I'll be waiting to hear from you. Phil Lepel.
  25. Sorry I missed the rally. Long story that involves me getting back with Carol, buying a new home and being asked to help with a rally with the members of my brothers forum the Honda Shadow Ace tourer riders. The rally organizer Joe Tascone lives not to far from Bongo and he can never find guys to ride with. So I told him what a great bunch the venture group is . Being with those riders also made me realize how much I missed you all. I had let my membership lapse but I've renewed it and hope to be more involved again. Being with those riders made me realize all the friends i had walked away from. What was worse is that My brother did that to them as well. He's selling his bike because of his age. thats understandable. But walking a way from friends? many of them missed my brother and even asked me to get him to come down but he wouldn't. That's when I realized what good friends I had left behind here. Too many such good friends. For that I apologize though I know I probably don't have to. Sorry I missed your rally but i used what you taught me in your rallies to show my group a good time. we had members from Colorado, Texas, West Virginia, South Carolina and two couples from Cananda. In fact one of the Canadians was from Deb and Daryls' Valkeryie forum. His name was Adrian. Anyway, I organized a nice finger lakes ride. Much like the the First one I did for the Venture Riders but we also had great weather here and a great location in Watkins Glen a motel called the Seneca Lodge. I may do a fall ride here. I hope to talk to you and Bongo and others about it. Good to be back. Phil.
