  1. Hey Eck ,you don't mean that tight thing REDNECK SITS ON DO YA? lol! Anyway welcome to the sight 84. I take it from your title that you also own that other great Yamaha the XS/XJ 1100. I own one of those too and haul a sidecar with mine. I have an 85 Venture with only 35,000miles on it. I'm getting around 37mpg with mine. The 2nd Gen's get much better gas mileage because they're so friggin slow . Thats okay because of the guys that ride them are old anyway. Luckily for you yours won't have the tranny issue earlier Ventures had so sigh a breath of relief. These bikes are bullet proof and you should get years of riding out of your Venyure. By the way what color is it ? We bicker over that stuff too LOL! Wecome to the club.
  2. Well it could be a number of things based on the puddle location. First there is a connector hose from the frame( that carries the coolant) to the engine, check the clamps and check the hose for any tears or deterioration. The hose could just be lose. Like Bob suggested flush the radiator , it gets rid of sludge and make the radiator more effiecent. There"s also a drain plug in the left side frame member it might be lose or damaged. There are other members here with Shadows like Dyno Don and AJ Lepel andd they are members of the Shadow Ace tourers forum and they can give you even more info on possible causes. Good luck.
  3. I'm going to jump in on this because my 85 started making a noise at the end of the season. I started only getting it in 5th gear when i was running easy or let the mph drop down to 45. It sounds a little like a spinning bearing. Oddly I noticed that when i really get on the throttle no noise. I can go through the gears and nothing. Then settle into fifth and it starts and will stay with me. I find it will hang on if the rpm's are around 3000. When i slow down and get below 25-30 it goes away. Any ideas what so ever about this???
  4. Name of Restaurant The Dinosaur Bar-B-Q Street Address 99 Court St. City Rochester State or Province NY Website (Optional) - Quality of Food Great Quality of Service Good Biker Friendly? (Parking, Trusted Location, Etc.) Yes Kind of Food? (Mexican, Chinese, etc.) Great American Bar-B-Q Alcohol Served? Yes Additional Comments The Dinosaur is more than just Biker friendly, the two brothers that own the two locations in Rochester and Syracuse both ride. The Rochester resterant though is in the picturesque old Lehigh Valley Railroad station located on Court st. in downtown Rochester. The station overlooks the Genesee river and in the summertime there is seating outside and and motorcycle only parking in the court yard parking lot on the resturant premisie. The food is slow smoked and everything from the briskets to the steaks to the chiken is melt in your mouth good ! Don't forget the pulled pork! The best bargain on the menu is the couples combo sampler that gives you a little of everything plus three sides and corn bread. Nothing can beat a great saturday night ride and some of the best Bar-B-Que in New York State. if youare in the Rochester New York area its a MUST!
  5. As Friesman said the Maxie brown is a great color BUT the Black and gold of the 86-up up was one of my favorites and will look great on the old blue.I feel like a bit of a traitor
  6. if you have a wireless system there should be a way to track the outside user and disconnect them. You can also set up a security password to keep them out I believe. Though I don't know your type of system.

  13. In my family we've tried several different types and all are very good . I bought a new Nolan two years ago at Americade for 50% off. My son wears a Fulmer which we bought at a dealer for about $100 . My brother wears a Zues that he loves. Many of them vary only in noise cancellation. HJC has a nice modular too, little higher price range but don't neccesarily think higher price means better helmet.

What my good friend Bill is trying to say is that you can save yourself a lot of money and have a bike as fast as the Wing with the same low center of gravity by buying a 1st gen. You can pick up a good 90 to 93 model for less than 5000 dollars. It handles as good as the newer wings and weights about the same or a little less. In fact it might be a little faster than the wing not that you're looking for that. But you'll have all the torque . The enegine is basically the same as the newer Ventures but the frame mounted fairing is more like the wings. The bikes style is even still fairly up to date looking more like an St1300, FJR 1300 or a kawi Concours 14. So buy a first gen and save yourself some money!
  16. Hey buddy congratualtions. Wow! 42 lbs. That's fantastic I can't believe it. i'm really proud of you guy. keep up the good work! Can't wait to see you . Hey JT don't think that we up north have forgotten about you either. We also want you to know that your still in our hearts and our minds. Its good to hear from you . Don't stay away so long. You have alot of friends here.PB&J.
  19. Man don. That Harley FXRD i forgot about. When that bike came out that was THE Harley I wanted until the V-Rod appeared. You had a nice one i love the colors on yours. i remember reading they were paint shakers though.
  20. you covered everything . You left nothing for me to advise him on. Well anyway like friesman said the Brownies are the best . MMMMM Browwwwnniiess! Oops, got side tracked. check out our pictures to see just how pretty they are. Like all have said changing all the fluids can save headaches down the road. I bought my 85 last year with the same fork seal problem, and I'm going for the progressive springs this year.Brake resevoirs should be cleaned as well. Fine deposits accumulate in the bottom of them. The carbs may have to be pulled to be cleaned Yamaha's are a bit touchy as far as fuel deposits go. I agree with everyone else's advice. Radiator, oil, brake and clutch brakelines too if cracked. Also one more thing check your model number if it is over 1470 then you have an 85 with the upgraded split ring in your tranny meaning that you shouldn't have any of the problems 83 to early 85's had with losing 2nd gear. If it is lowerr than that they be aware of this issure . Especially with a bike with 80k on it. Welcome to ownership of one of the sportiest (and prettiest) tourers ever produced.
  21. Hey Painterman that looks like it was done on a Boss hog. Thats a v8 engine in there. Maybe thats Boss Hog's Iragie edition bike!
  22. My first bike was an old Rd 350 that did it all. My all time favorite though is my Honda V65 Sabre. Its a cruiser below 5000 rpm and a fast as stink sportbike over that. Smooth and strong its never failed me unless a battery has gone bad or something. It also makes a decent sport touring bike getting 200 miles to a tank of gas. Next after that was my ex wife's Honda Nighthawk S . Most nimble do it all bike ever, Not much of a top end but that bike was so light and effortless to ride that with a full face helmet on you couldn't even see it beneath you. Felt like you were flying down the road. The strongest bike I've owned is my XS11. Even with a full fairing and a sidecar attached that thing excelerates like a freight train. Incredible torque. And finally to answer your last question Bill what was the bike that I always wanted ? that's the Venture Royale I currently own. I Loved my Sabre but when the Royale came out it was THE touring bike I wanted to own. I told myself over and over when I get a touring bike its going to be a Venture Royale. Now I have one. Oh I would like a Valkeryie Interstate but i'll wait a few years for that. I'm still young I'm only 55. PS. Don't think I've ever had a BAD bike!
  23. This is the exact same thing they said about Elvis swivelling his hips. There were people on tv calling him vulgar and a degenerate. Now he's called the King. In the 60's it was the Beatles and the Rolling Stone's. Churches were getting kids to burn their Beatle albums. You don't have to like Rap music. But even rap musics style is working its influence into Country. If the argument is with the loudness , sure its rude so were loud stereos and Hi Fi player our neighbors complained about. Loud pipes on bikes are rude too but there are plenty of riders that will defend their right to have them. Yes there are some of foul lyrics in rap but all music has its share. Even country now has words in it that twenty years ago you'd never hear. It can be obnoxiuos but it usually only lasts a minute or two. Not something worth injuring a kid over .
  24. I'm retired but had no problem buying my 1st gen. As long as you don't have to have the newest you can have toys. Three bikes one with a sidecar and a Mustang Gt Turbo. It can be done.
  25. I wonder if our buddy Greg of London has been there for that.He rides his rig in the winter.
