  4. And the Yamaha Engines definitely run smoother the higher the RPM's. This is both true with my Venture and my XS1100.
  5. Bob.bob.bob, If I've told you once I've told you a thousand times. Never, ever, ever let 2nd Gen guys "work" on a 1st Gen'r. Every first gen bike they can destroy is one more victory!! Ok sure they're friends wanting to help , But they can't help themselves . Its in their Blood! Learn from Poor Bob's Mistake all you 1st Gen'rs Beware! Beware!
  6. Oh Tom You evil, evil man!!!
  7. I think Don said it best once in the past when he said ," This is an owned and paid for web sire. NOT a Democracy." If there are things you want to say or jokes to make find or start your own web site where you can say those things. In the year I've been on this site I've seen how easy it is for topics to go south. A couple of times I got caught up in those. I learned my lesson. Too many of us have this need to have the last word . The web can be dangerous in that respect because of its faceless nature. Because we can't see or personally know the other person we take liberties in what we say. Don and the mod's have been around long enough and seen this enough to simply no longer tolerate it. Once you've been here long enough you'll understand with out it having to be explained. Its not that hard to understand.
  8. I bought a late model XS 11 about 11 years ago. First year I went to change the oil and the filter but the previous owner had rounded the bolt And put it back on way too tight. Long story short I had to take it to a dealer who welded a bolt to it to work it out. I fought with that thing for a day. Talk about humiliation
  9. I like it too. And with a million or so a person could buy a new car every three years there buy keeping the car companies going And still invest the rest to live off the interest and help the stock market and banking industries. As long and the Bankers are heavily regulated so they don't mess up with our money. And then banking problem is solved too.
  10. Just tell your Hubby that when you all go riding you'll make sure you stop occasionally so they can catch up. Or if your going to buy a Harley Have him buy you a V-Rod. Its even faster than your Star, its a Harley and His friends will still hate it! Lmao!! Ps. I just checked your profile pics and must agree your husband doesn't look the type to be persuaded by childish peer pressure. Oh well Looks can be decieving. Two years ago I saw a woman rid in on a V-Rod with a Road glide kit on it. It was fast and beautiful Its the only Harley I'd recommend
  11. Looks like all votes are going to the choke cable being too tight. But i'll bet the speed and head wind didn't help either.
  12. Looks fantastic I agree with randya I'd paint the hardware they fill the inside as suggested this tunes and GPS
  13. AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!! My eyes!! It Buurrrnnnnssssss it Burnnnssss!
  14. Through out this whole thread I saw no mention of how to detect Tires age or manufacturing date. A tire may have been shipped to a dealer upon order but what you may not know is when the tire was bought by a warehouse. A tire manufacturer can not be blamed if a warehouse distributor buys tires in bulk then sells the older tires first. I had this happen to me. I bought tires through Dennis Kirk only to have them fail for dry rot the begining of the next season. It turns out the tires were 8 years old. Most manufacturers recommend a shelf life of only 4 years. On each tire there is an oval with three numbers The numbers respresent Month, day and year. This will give you an idea of the age of the tire,By checking this you can avoid a potential problem. NOTE: Warehouse sellers usually do not garuantee tires, In order to get a replacement you'll have to contact the manufacture. I had the manufacturer, Contienital, send me a new set of tires. Checking the numbers is the key to whether a tire will be good or bad.
  15. Not to dispute you Bill but i thought for sure the MGB fast back GT had a 6 in it. I know the Triumph fastback came with a six. The TR 6 also came with a factory supercharger. I've seen two at the local Watkins Glen show.
  16. The GT's were the fast back coupes right? They all came with the in line 6 in them I believe. The only Brit sports car to come to America with the 215 ci V8 was the Triumph TR-8 in the last two years of its production. I had a Triumph Spitfire MK4 in High school and loved that little bomber. But the body was in bad shape eventually sold it to a import garage who parted it all out within 2 weeks.

    MD weigh in

Hey tom , I shovelled 20 tons of stone last week and I already watch what i eat and i didn't lose a friggin' pound!!! I think your suckin up all the weight losin brownie points in New York!!! Save a few for Bob and me! I agree with JGorom we ain't gonna recognize ya when we finally go riding. On top of that hows poor Daryl going to feel???
  18. Just checked the spec sheet and the horsepower rating and near identical but the 2nd gen carries a lot more weight . Its 22 lbs. heavier without oil or gas in it So with a full tank at 6 gals. its pushing 35lbs. heavier rough guessitmate. With the same horsepower it has a definite disadvantage weight wise. So based on spec's alone the 1st Gen should be faster in a quarter mile side by side. Okay now the silliness can really begin!!!
  19. To be perfectly objective and not getting into our usual silliness over this subject it depends on a few things. I'm not sure about the weight but I think the 2nd gen weights a little more. The early models of the 2nd gen had grossly detuned engines. Where as the 1st gen is listed at 95 bhp. The earlier 2nd gens were only rated at 75 bhp. I remember the comments from owners and reviewers alike that thought Yamaha was nuts for taking out so much horsepower in exchange for some added torque. Eventually they added it back to where they are both pretty close now. Third thing is aerodynamics the 1st gen was desigened to compete with the Gold wing and out do it. It was designed to be sleeker, sportier, and handle better. There may also be a gear advantage to the 1st gen because again Yamaha wanted a bike that was in league with not only the Gold Wing but BMW's RT900/1000/1100. The spec's are on the history page here ( at least as far as the manufacturing spec's go) That may help a little. Interesting question though and thats my objective answer . Now onto the silliness...........
  20. Hey Bob i'm polishing the forks on mine too . have one don hope to get the other finished once I GET THE BIKE HOME.
  21. Instead of a cooler put the trunk on the tongue in front of the saddlebags to keep it low and balanced.
  22. Getting up to the 40's here in the Finger Lakes area and hope to get the honda out of the shed and running today. The Venture is in storage at a friends garage 10 miles away. My new garage will be delivered this Thursday then all the bikes can be here for the riding whenever I want. COME ON SPRING!
  23. Hey enjoy that new BMW great handling sport touring bikes. Hey Aren't those BMW's those German bikes that are copues of the 1st Gen. Venture Royale. LOL!
  24. My 84 Honda V65 Sabre bought with 3 miles on it in 85 now has over 60k on it . ( This is a guess as the speedo crapped out back in 1990.) I averaged about 5000 miles a year on it. My 80 Yamaha XS11 came to me 10 years ago with 30k on it. It's just turned 50k at the end of last season. I bought my 85 Venture Royale in May of last year with 35k on it. It ended the season with 37k. This year it will have a whole lot more.
