  1. Merry Christmas Don, to you and all your Family. Merry Christmas also to all the friends I know and don't know here On Venture riders. I wish you all a very happy Holidays no matter how you celebrate it. Good wishes to you all. Here's my tree in the place I've called home the last year. The first home I have owned all on my own.
  2. I'm copying this too and going to use it when I pick up the 86 in the spring but from what I remember the bike seemed to have none of these problems. I.e. cracks in the fairing, oil sight glass fogging, weeping etc. But thanks again this will be useful and KIC welcome!
  3. Will you be seeing Annie and her hubby while you're down under. Be a shame to get all the way there and not get a visit in for the rest of us living vicariously through you.
  4. if you need the left side fairing let me know though ...
  5. Dano, so sorry to hear about what happened but glad to hearyou are making a good road to recovery . Just remember the pain is your bodies way of say, Woo Hoo we aren't dead. LOL! Mu prayers are with you. Phil.
  6. Wizard was asking about that too. Didn't you need the right side fairing and badges? where the bike fell over?

    Aaaaaaarghh!

    Thanks Bob!
  8. Yes Don you got that right its not on E bay but it is local on Craigslist. But i have it listed as a bike with engine issues and priced as a parts bike. I did do my research on a majority of items listed on E bay and have set prices at or below median prices found there. this bike was great but I have found a great 86 in even better condition and would like to use the proceeds to help pay off the new bike. but thanks for keeping an eye on it for me.
  9. Hi everyone sorry i was away from this post awhile. Personal stuff and a search fr a new bike had me busy. The good news is i have deposit down on a new( to me) 86 with only 35k on it. Its the color i always wanted Dark Brown/black and Gold and has everything on it my 85 had and more. The new bike is complete so the 85 is ready to be parted out. I'll be going back over the list here that people asked for and do my best to try to get back to you with prices, shipping etc. I went on ebay to look at prices and trying to keep under the higher prices and stay with the medium to low end. I will dicker if you enjoy the energy of the bargain. LOL! so in the next few days i'll begin contacting those who have already asked for parts . In cases where two have asked for the same thing the person willing to pay my price will get it. My hope is to use the money from these parts to pay off the balance on my new ride. so this really isn't a profit making endeavor. I also have the bike listed on Craigslist for a $1000.00 to take the whole thing. My parts list alone, even conservatively shows the bike in parts is worth 3 times that. So those already on this thread that have put in requests will be hearing from me over the holiday and until Christmas or until parts or the bike is sold outright. I want to thank all who have shown interest, its good to be able to help fellow members while still being a part of the forum with my newer first Gen. I'm excited. Phil.

    Aaaaaaarghh!

Hey Tom you aren't doing it right . Take all the tires back and just take more days off when the snow flies!!!! The money you save on the tires will make up for the money you lose not workin, and you get to stay home more and be on here!!!!
  11. Of course we miss you ! How could we not? with that big smile and friendly heart. It was so good to meet you at Bongo Bobs this year. It would be a dream come true to visit down under and travel the out back with your guys. LOL! miss you both.
  12. Same advice from me . Hondas are known to have rectifiers that will do that. Mine on my 84 V65 Sabre will boil the water out of a cell if i don't keep an eye on it, all advice here is good. Clean the connectors and check again or just replace it and see where it stands but those things should solve the problem. good luck.
  13. Yes there was a thread like this last year and IT wasn't pretty!
  14. Hey being retired means we sleep alllll the time not up all night. you know like cats do I'm nothing without my full 18 hours of sleep. Hey wait its time for my nap!
  15. But how do you really feel about it Tom?
  16. Lucky man and fast thinking smart woman! Can't ask for more than that!
  17. Hey guys thanks for all the good advice. I've been in contact with skydoc17 he feels the noises maybe coming from the secondary gear. Second gear had already started to go. and i still have not located the oil leak yet. Unfortunately I don't have the money for an extensive repair to the engine. Earl helped local another bike for me that I should be able to transfer parts from the "Fox " I've already contacted the owner and will be picking it up in a week or two. My great thanks to Earl! Without him I'd be ventureless or worst maybe riding a 2nd Gen. ( Oooooh I'm going to catch some hell for that). LOL! Once again this site has proven some of the greatest people ride Ventures. Now for those of you interested I'm going to be parting out the rest of the bike and contacting members I know also buy and part out machines. There are a few body parts i plan to keep but the rest will be up for sale very soon. Bongo Bob already has first dibs on stuff and Earl can have what ever he wants off of it. but the rest is up for sale. Phil.
  18. That would work but how much of a difference it would make is negligable. Sidecars eat through tires very fast due to the crab walk effect cause by the bike and"dragging" the chair. its just how it goes theres a slight scrubbing effect from the chairs resistance. The front tire gets a lot less were than the back two and I've had fronts last two or three seasons. but it will depend on the amount of riding time you put on it. A couple of years ago i put a Kendra Kruz on my rig . Its thick center was ideal for the rig and even though its worn its lasted longer than most. if you want to mount a good rear to the front I'd recommend one of those for the front as well. they wear like iron. I have one on my 85 as well but its thick center if not pressure adjusted right creates a weave as it rides on the center of the tread. That's my 2 cents.
  19. First off let me add my meager good wishes and prayer to Ponch Lil Bit and their family. After reading page upon page of good wishes It brought a tear to my eye . This site is incredible because of the people here and the positive attitude everyone has. I don't stop in like I used to but every time i do I'm constantly reminded what wonderful people you all are. To Ponch I wish you a speedy recovery. To his wife and family I send all the positive energy I can and to all the rest of you Venture riders who filled these posts with Love, concern and caring i want you all to know you and great and wonderful people I an honored to count as my friends even if I've only met a few of you. God speed to all!
  20. I'v had to work the last few days so i just put the bike up in the garage. As I was asked the second gear is starting to go. when its not under extreme throttle it will hold or when its warm is will hold better and longer . But its definitely starting to go with 46.000 miles on her. I talked to skydoc who called me and he suggested looking into the tranny too after trying to trouble shot an exact location. I'll be getting to it i hope this week and will keep you all informed of the progress made. i won't give up on the Fox unless its a major disaster . I really like the 85 for so many reasons.. My only other choice would be a Black and Gold 86. Thanks for all the advice so here we go.
  21. Sorry to hear of you and your friends loss. count my prayers amongst all those here.
  22. also pull the cable lifting it and fill it with oil then reattach it. run the bike and get it up into the speedo to lube the bearing. You may have to do this a couple of time.
  23. I took the Brown fox for an Autumn ride today Ii got about 12 miles from home when I notice a cloud following me. I pull off the road and the fox is smoking like crazy. i shut her off and climb off to see oil dripping out of the(I think) tranny case rather quickly. Its running down onto the collector box and onto the ground. I shut the engine off and the oil stream slows an stops. I start the engine and it starts to flow again. I call a tow truck and take it home. The questions i have: 1.) is there a drain plug on the bottom of the tranmission and could it have worked loose. If not, outside of a possible cracked engine case what else could have caused this leak. To actually be able to see the underside of the engine i'll have to pull the collector box. before i do i need to know if its worth it and what i might find under there. Special note: For the last few weeks the engine started making an internal rattling noise while idling on the side stand.. If its not fixable then I'll either start piecing it out or sell it outright for parts. but before i do that I hope to know if its salvage able. Please help guys and gals.
  24. Well Annie and Al let me add my good wishes for a safe trip home. My visit with you was short. (met you at Bongo Bobs and Becky's for the 4th of July) but memorable, I'm glad i got the opportunity to sit and chat a while. good luck with the settlement on your case . I hope it goes in your favor.
