  1. I am glad that her suffering is over but sad for your loss. like you i had time to say all my good byes to my dad when died 26 years ago. it was a slow death too cancer but it gave us in our family a chance to heal old wounds and say good bye with love. May your memories of her all be good ones. Prayers sent...
  2. First let me say all in all good riding tips . So more obvious than others. Secondly I agree with Big Lenny that too many times ( but not all) it is driver error on the motorcyclists part. The general age of motorcyclist is between 45 and 60 we are an aging group especially in the touring section. Motorcycling is a SPORT. its just one we do on the highways of our nation. It is a trained skill that not all have or appreciate. Riding tired, being out of shape brings on fatigue that much faster and reflexes slow. Which brings me to my second point, as we get older many of us turn to trikes. And some don't realize that these machine have a whole new learning curve. Carl's recommendation here are good for a bike but a disaster for someone starting out on a trike for the first time. Riding the left lane can unwittingly put a rear tire (or front on one of those new Spyders) over the line into the other lane. A disaster waiting to happen. Having ridden a sidecar for almost 15 years i had to have two sets of skills. Its important that in this SPORT that we all Love so much hat we understand that each machine, each road and each riding environment has its own set of rules and it is us the riders that must always be adapting to them. Heck that's half the fun anyway isn't it. Finding a new road, a new challenge to our skills and a willingness to learn how to conquer a section of highway. Its the getting there that's the challenge. We don't always ride necessarily to get somewhere, the ride is the thing....
  3. Yeah its an incredible machine. And he seems to be a nice guy. Did you talk to him about joining us. I was going to ask if he was a member but didn't have The time to chat.
  4. we're all a little looney so none of us cares....
  5. I recently went out with family members to see some local musicans at a club here in town. While waiting for the show to start i was looking out the big front windows at the traffic and watched as a sidecar pulled up to the corner. It had a Velorex 700 attached just like my old one. and it looked like it was on a Yamaha like my old one. In fact it was my old rig. It pulled up in front of the club and parked. I ran out to talk to the owner who wasn't the guy i sold the bike to. He had just bought it and loved it. i told him all kinds of stories about its history and i gave him my number in case he needed any info on the bike. It was nice to see her again and see someone enjoying it as much as i did. Its always nice to run into an old friend.
  6. I had an 85 and that was the first sign of losing second gear. Under light load no problem but under heavy acceleration it would jump in and out of gear like that. I just rode it like that until another problem occurred and I just started parting out the bike and bought a newer one. Others here have fixed this problem. Its only a washer on the second gear shaft that is made of too soft a metal and mashes flat causing the second gear to disengage. The part is cheap but getting to it means pulling the engine to open the cases and get to the stinker. Others have done it. I chose not to based on my mechanical skills and the cost. I found my 87 locally for $2500. and went that route.
  7. I was recently at a car show in Palmyra N.Y. when I came across this crazy built up Royal Star. Its running nitrous and everything. Incredible custom work on the tank and what a paint job. Even has neon light. Is this one of our members? has anyone else ever seen this before outside of New York State?
  8. Let me be the first to say Welcome Home!

  17. Yes your right I forgot about the ST.
  18. Hey that looked good. I'd hate too see them do away with the v4 engine but lets face it its the last of its kind except for the V-max. Honda's V4 only exists in the Interceptor, Suzuki's is long gone and Kawasaki never made one. Big v twins are the way everyone is going Yamaha will likely just give in to the trend.
  19. Being a 2nd gen mastermind is like says a brilliant stooge . He turns off the gas thinking he has beaten the 1st gen owner and convinced him to buy a slower and heavier second gen bike. BUT....
  20. Good question. i'm not sure it's ever been brought up before.
  21. But like Carbon one said Side cars have their own set of rules as well and not as stable as a trike. I had a side car rig for 15 years and Learned well the technique i needed to be safe. i agree with Annie that this poor woman should not have been out there with all those riders. Or her partner or riding biddy should have been watching out more for his novice companion. Novice meaning to the voyager kit as well as riding. every device is different.
  22. pull the bugs from your teeth from smiling so much.
