Earl, thanks for the info! The "Twinkie", now that's funny! I was thinking maybe of the "Joints" as Yamaha list them, with the 3 O-rings. The ones located behind each spark plug. But this is my first water cooled engine and we haven't hit on these in class yet, so while I know what I'm doing, I do get a little lost........... I'll run down to Harbor Frieght in the morning and pick one of those up and do the test and see what happens. I will also look at the rear master cylinder fuild level first, because I did flush out the old fuild. But when I bought this, the smell was there than.

I have the Kury one on my Vstar mounted to the master cylinder and will probable put on on the venture,(once I get it running right). Doesn't take up any space there and looks kewl!

Hmmmm, where's the water jacket at? I'm stumped on that.

Pressure test? You mean Compression test? That's my next move, but have to wait now till Tuesday when I can bring home my tools from school. No puddling anywhere. All the fairing is off. It's coming off the exhaust chamber, so I'm guessing it's getting into the exhaust side somewhere.

Spark Plug Removal???
Dakota replied to Jason's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, there deep in there. I used the spark plug socket in the tool kit. If you don't have a venture tool kit, there is one on ebay ending I think in three days. Someone else will chime in if they have a mod socket they use, but check that kit out, they come in handy. -
I have just finished rebuilding the clutch slave cylinder, new O ring, pin and compression spring on the nautral safety switch, all new exhaust gaskets and silencers., but still getting this coolant smell. Looks like the light smoke is coming from the exhaust chamber and rising up. There isn't any oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil. While I had the exhause off, I did a good cleaning of the bottom of the engine and all parts I had off. I did all of the fore mentioned to find this burning coolant smell problem. What lead me to tearing the exhaust off is I thought I had a coolant leak, but never any puddles. Before doing all this along with the burning coolant smell, there was also water coming out of the exhaust mufflers,(still is). This is a 1989 XVZ1300 I bought about a year and a half ago and only ridden maybe 7 or 8 miles,(been trying to get things done to get a sidecar on it). I noticed it at first and the previous owner had told me he had just spilt some coolant when filling it, I think he knew better and that's why he sold it. But my problem now and need to get it taken care of so I can finish it. Any help would be great.

If you haven't finished your forks yet, I would pull them apart and inspect the bushings. If they look worn or damaged, then make sure you replace them. I just finished doing my in the MMPE class I'm taking. I had to do a job sheet on them and what I said above is what the instructor told me. Mine were still in good shape, so I saved a few bucks. But if you have any doubts, replace them.

That's what I was thinking, but want to make sure before putting the unit back on the bike, filling and bleeding it, just to find out it's dumpping and have to re-do. Much Thanks! :bowdown:Do you know if the seal, (the small one in your pic), around the push rod just gets pryed out with a screw driver or pick and slip the new one on?- 36 replies

I'm in the middle of putting in slave rebuild kit while I have the exhaust off, also putting a new O ring on the neutral safety switch. 89 xvz1300 Does the rubber seal you mentoned above pop out with a flat head screw driver? I looked in the service manual and it doesn't mention it in there or list it on the diagram. Also, when replacing the seal around the slave cylinder, which ways does it go on? While I was waiting on the kit to arrive, I thought I'd get ahead of the game and take it apart. Except for now I can't remember which way it was on there? The outside edge of the seal has a slant to it, does the slant side down go towards the push rod/block or towards the spring, using this as a sample, spring \ block , or , spring / block ? Unfortunetly they don't have that in the service manual iether.- 36 replies

I only got 1 good arm left, both legs are shot. LOL I see you got a 88 donor, how the one on that? I have an 87 donor, but that was is to bad to fix.

Don't know if I listed the name right, but what I'm looking for is the plastic panel cover that has the openings for the CB, and the has the door with the Leveling Unit and opens to refill the radiator overflow bottle. Just need the panel, not the CB, Leveling unit or door. For a 1989 Venture Royale

A guy over on the Virago forum used a old jeep rearend. I'll see if I can't find it and give you a link.

Letting the air out?
Dakota replied to Dakota's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks! Since I have the 87 parts bike and the guy I bought the 89 from had a problem with the class going out all the time and removed it, so I'll be using the one off the 87 and if need be, have everything alse to use also. Also is that where the presure sensor is located?- 7 replies

I made the mistake of removing almost everything from my 87 1300 including most of the electrical, but didn't use the controller to let the air out of the suppenson. What's the best way to do this now?

Lots of Question, Here's #1
Dakota replied to Dakota's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Brian, but locating where the Pressure Sensor and the air compressor is what I'm looking for. The fiches sort of point to the general location, but with all the fairing these have on them, I don't want to take off any more than I have to. I guess I'm use to the V Star and Virago. But I figure that someone out here has replaced, repaired or bypassed it and can give me the "what to take off to get to where it's at". -
I got both the service manual and the manual on CD and neither explain or give good diagrams to where all the componets are located. I have a 87 xvz13 parts bike and a 89 xvz13 runner. The 89's previous owner was having trouble with the Class unit and put progressive springs on the front, disconnected the air hoses from the pump/???, ran the rear air hose into the right side hardbag and looks to be hooked up to a air canister w/air valve. I want to put it all back to stock, except leave the progressive springs in. I have a good working Class unit and all I need from the 87. I just need to know where everything is located? Reason I'm doing this is because I have a Calif. friendship III sidecar I am hooking up to it. Anyone point me in the right direction?
-
Rick, the 87 was toast so I picked up an 89 from a local guy said he was a member on this forum, and he already has the progressive springs in. But he disconnected the air lines from the pump and got rid of the control box. Since the parts from the 87 are the same I was thinking of switchin back, but need to find some info on where all the componets are located. Soon as I can find that, and remove the fairings to do the work, the fairings and sidecar are going out to be painted. I have a Freindship III sidecar that was on the 87, that's why I choose to find another Venture, make it easier to do the hook up. Denis

How is the air with the sidecar? Would progressive springs be better in the front?
-
I picked a 1 person sidecar project to connect up to my Virago for my siberian husky, but since picked up a 87 XVZ1300 with a 2 person sidecar already attached. Plenty of room for him to sit or lay down if he wants.

Cables not the problem bro! >>>Can 1200 carbs be used in the 1300? The ones I have in this 1300 are so gummed up, I figureit would be easier just to switch them out. 1200's are out there, but the 1300's are hard to find. Any suggestions?
