  1. Thanks for the pics! I found 6 of those plates, but I only have 2 vr's? Also I looked through all my hardware from both bikes and can't seem to find those other plates/brackets any where. Since you have yours apart, can you tell me there purpose?
  2. OK, I did my home work and searched out on evil bay. Found 2 pics of them holes and what goes in them,(see pics), now I got to find them pieces. Funny the yammi site doesn't list them?
  3. Maybe on the newer ones back there in the mid-west, but out here on the west coast and in the older ones, they'd get lost inbetween 2nd and 1st gear.
  4. I was thinking that was where I got'em from! But what goes in these holes? see diagram.
  5. I wish that's all that was left over! Yammi calls them, #60-front plate and #61-damper. There's also 2 holes at the bottom of the inner panels,(between where the mounting holes for the front lower body connects), and I have no idea what goes there. I've had this broken down for over a year now and while I have all the parts times 2,(2 vr's, both broken down), I didn't think I would this hard of time putting it back together again. LOL
  6. Been fighting a cold, hayfever and finals at school for the last few weeks and now when I feel better and have a short time till spring quarter starts up, I got a couple of things holding me up from getting all the fairing and covers back on the vr. On the diagram below, I can't remember where these,(60), go? I noticed on both inner panels, there are holes the same distance apart, but the collars of the plate are to big for the holes. If they don't go there then what does?
  7. Anyone out here have a Calif. Friendship III sidecar? I'm looking for the wiring diagram for mine. Also looking for a place to buy parts.
  8. Since the left front works off the REAR master cylinder it's PITA. Do you access to a Mity Vac? If so, hook it up to the bleeder on the front caliper, pump it up to about 10-15psi on the gauge, open your bleeder screw but close before the gauge hits 0 zero. Repeat, but watch the fluid level in your rear master cylinder. If you don't have access to the Mity Vac, look in the service manual for bleeding instructions on the Rear/front left.
  9. Which of the front are you doing? If it's the left, that's tied into the rear and works off the rear master cylinder, if it's the front right, I'd fill the front master cylinder and put a hose on the bleeder to a container and pump the hand brake to see if your getting any fluid into the container. When I first got my vr, it took me a while to find out how the brake system worked.
  10. I've used Arrid Extra Dry spray on deodorant in the past. Found it's easier to spray up then throw the power up.
  11. I can do that!
  12. Condor, before taking the bike into school, I bought a radiator pressure testing kit and tested it at 8psi for 3 1/2 hrs and it help up. Today at school I did the test agian at 10psi for 40 min. and still held the pressure. In the service manual it states to do this test at 14psi and my instructor asked why I didn't, when I told him that I got the advice from out here, he said, "go with that then"! He's as stumbed as everyone else. I'll be rewiring the sidecar in the garage this weekend, so next week, I'll trailer the VR back home and get the fairings back on it and get with George and ride the hell out it. See if that cures it. I may take it up to the car wash first and carefully spray the front of the radiator and the underside of the motor to wash away any coolant residue that may be lurking.
  13. Condor, I think the only thing I haven't check is the radiator cap, but the the hoses and fitting on the bottle are good. Squeeze, About my nose, I was thinking that also, that's why I took it into class to see if anyone else could smell what I did. I ran it till it warmed up and then asked other students to tell me if they smelled anything,(without telling them), and they did also, so did the instructor. Now for, "except the "Twinkie" is leaking Coolant into the Engine Breather Hose and this is sucked up into the Airbox and is burned with the Mixture", this is still something I need to check and will do tomorrow during class, if there is some free time. I also have the Service Manual on pdf and hardback and have used it a lot in class for job sheets we were doing, including the coolant system. I know this is a wierd one, but my nose knows that what I'm smelling is in fact coolant. I will find where it's coming from.
  14. George, thanks for the offer and I may take you up on it! Right now the bike is sitting on a lift at school. My instructor is just as stumped as I am, but is going to get ahold of the Yamaha rep to see if he has any ideas of where to get a better diagram or the cooling system flow and what the water jacket joints and there 3 o rings do. The speed o stating only 15000 and having this problem makes me believe that the guy I bought it from switched out the speed O before selling it, what 1989 cruiser has that little mileage on it. Also it's a coolent smell, not oil, but I have checked re checked and re checked for any form of leak, but again the guy I bought it from said that he had been using it for a daily rider so it hadn't been sitting and the smell was there when I bought it. It has been sitting alot since then only to be started once or twice a month for 20 to 30 min. I may pull the joints and replace the O rings.
  15. Since we've been having all this nice sunshine over here on the west coast,(east coasters, we had what you getting last year), I haven't touched the VR all week. Except for yesterday to put it in the trailer. I talked with my instructor on Fri.. and told him I need more eyes on it, maybe that way someone will see something I'm not. So it will be going to school with me tomorrow. Oops, I don't think I mentioned in any of my past post, that I'm in my 3rd quarter at Lake Washington Technical College for the MMPE program,(Motorcycle, Marine, Power Equipment) more on the Motorcycle aspect since after next quarter, I'll be starting my AAS for HD . So I often take things in that I need to work on; my softail for progressive rear shocks, the VStar to run electrical test, forks, master cylinder off the VR to be rebuilt. I'll keep everyone updated with what we find, I'd hate to see someone go though this again. Oh yea, did I mention we have a 2000 Vmax sitting in the lab that someone donated? I may buy the heads, carbs and what ever else I need from the school! So if anyone out there has done the VMax mod, please chime in and let me know what it's gonna take to do it.
