  1. I just put the Baron's Bag Slash on my '08 RSTD. They were a little loud for me out of the box, but for another $20. I removed the baffles and wrapped them with fiberglass exhaust wrap, now they sound just right for me. I paid $299 for them from my Yamaha Dealer.
  2. I would have a stroke over $3.70 a gallon. I'm still paying around $3.89 a gallon. I was so mad the other day, i was on my way to meet some other venture rider folks. I passed a station in the middle of nowhere that was at $3.50. I had just filled up 10 minuter earlier for $3.89. Wish I would have swithced to reserve instead of just filling up earlier.
  3. As far as the fuel economy goes on the Valks, my dads '98 Valk Tourer gets the same MPG as my '08 RSTD. I'm getting around 43 MPG now. The bike handles very well, very fast off the line.
  4. I have found a recessed trailer hitch for my '08 RSTD. (About $160.) I have seen some of you with a rack that attaches to the trailer hitch to hold coolers or small luggage. Where did you get these or did you make them yourself. I'm looking for something to use on my out of state rides. Thanks!
  5. First off I want to say I had a blast at the 3 State Meet and Eat. It was good to meet with some of you and exchange ideas. I spoke to one of you that had a black RSTD. Harley pipes, driving lights and additions on the air boxes. Bike was setup for solo riding. If anyone knows who this is send me a message I'm sure I would like to trade ideas with him again sometime. Sorry, but I am terrible with names. Anyone else that wants feel free, I work 4 on 4 off so I am always looking for people to ride with. Thanks!
  6. I found a set of fake auto fender vents at Advance Auto Parts $20 (2 per pack). There were two screws behind the double sided tape on the back that held the black vents in the middle. Remove them and all the tape. Then I hollowed out the inside middle piece. Cut off the long end of the middle piece so they didn't hit the lower fairing. I then heated the piece from the backside with a heat gun till it became slightly flexible. (Wear some good gloves cause this stuff will burn you.) I then molded it to the shape of the air box. Once the piece cooled I put 2 layers of 3M Super Strength double sided tape on the top and 3 layers on the bottom and pressed it to the box. I then removed my lower fairing and air deflectors and lightly headed the piece on the bike to help the tape mold to the piece and held it in place till it cooled. Tip: Wear welding gloves you can hold the piece while heating and you wont get burned. I let it set overnight to make sure the tape would hold and then put bike back together. I have pics of this process if anyone would like to see them. If your willing to ride to my place on one of my off days I would be glad to help someone with the install.
  7. The valks have been gone for around 5 years now. They stopped the rune about 2 years ago. My dad has a '98 model that makes it really hard for him to find parts.
  8. After much delibration I just couldn't see spending all that money for the yamaha air box covers, so I tried something else. Got $28 in it, what do you think?

    My '08 RSTD

    From the album: RSTD Pics

  10. Hey, I recently purchased my 08 RSTD and I would like to add some extra brake lights to the bike. The problem is I cant really decide where or what kind I want to go with. I have the wrap around saddle bag guards on the bike. If you could please give me some suggestions and pics of what you have done if you have them. Also has anyone installed a headlight pulsator on there RSTD would like to know how well that works. Thanks to all!
  11. I have an 08 tour deluxe and my bridgestone tires howl like a wolf when in a lean. Can't wait for them to wear out so I can get some avons. There are many threads on here about similar problem. Just noisy tires I guess.
  12. First off, after 1800 miles on my new RSTD the rear end started clicking today. Taking it Tuesday morning to the dealer to have rear splines greased and some part filed down. Apparently this a common problem so not real upset. Anyway, my front brakes squel like a pig when coming to a stop. Is there anything that can be done to fix this?
  13. Here are some pics of the speakers I installed on my RSTD. They worked better than I expected. Of course the larger speakers I had on my V-Star sounded better, but they would take up way to much space on this bike. Amp is mounted behing headlight.
  14. I just got a set of speakers in from cycle sounds. They are small speakers in chrome bullet housings. Google cycle sound and check them out. I will be installing Saturday. Will be using a iPod nano. Will let you know how they sound when I get them on. I bought them from crutchfield, free shipping and got here fast.
  15. I am currently in process of odering a set of Baron's Slash Cut for my 2008 RSTD. You can go to there website and hear a clip of the exhuast. I heard a set one a Venture at the Honda Hoot last month. Remember that sound will be distored a little bit on the internet. Getting my Yamaha dealer to order them for me, $299. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/369/index.html
  16. I like the driver's backrest you made, how much for one? Gonna get the one for the passenger and add one for me when riding solo.

  17. If any of you know anyone who has an 1100 Vstar Custom that wants to put the 1100 Classic Silverado bags on it, I have a bracket that I make to make this happen. They are not listed to fit the bike, but I ran them on my custom for 10,000 miles. They really looked great. If you know anyone, I have a set of the bags for sale with the bracket. I also have the template to make the bracket if anyone just needs the bracket. Safe riding to all!
  18. I would have to research what will fit the classic model. I have the yamaha tall sissy bar with the studded silverado wide pad. Yamaha Corbin driver and passenger studded seats. Solo rear fender luggage rack. A pair of MC Enterprise and Kuryakyn highway pegs for 1" crash bars. Kuryakyn chrome contorl covers, clutch perch cover and master cyclinder cover. I also have a set of the Silverado studded bags for a classic. They are not shown to fit a custom but we make a bracket to make them fit on a custom. If you know anyone who wants to put the silverado bags on a custom get with me and we will work on making them a bracket up. Also I have a set of Cobra Slash Cut Slip-On Exhaust and cobra passenger floorboards. I have a compact air horn with bracket to attach to crash bar bolts for sale as well. I think that is it, but if anyone is interested let me know.
  19. I just bought my RSTD last wednesday and I really enjoy it. Had an 1100 Vstar for 9 years had to upgrade. Anyway was wondering if anyone knows if they make a chrome cover for the black plastic section around the lock on the saddlebags. Also if any of you know someone that has an 1100 Vstar Custom, I removed all my accessories before trading in and am looking to sale. It was a '99 model.
  20. Thanks, I'll keep it in mind. I rode an 1100 V Star for 9 years. I signed the papers on my RSTD this morning and will be picking it up tomorrow morning. Leaving straight out to Knoxville as soon as I can get home and get the bike loaded up. Been wanting this bike for years.
