  1. Alright there sleeperhawk you had me going there. I missed the subtext, how you gonna make it thru the weekend with out them pies!
  2. Thanks Grey Ghost I'll take anything I can get. I had my Barons Bag Slash baffles glass wrapped and they were still way to loud.
  3. ..... if any pics are available that would be great too. Gonna have 4 rainy days off, would like to tackle this then.
  4. Can someone point me a thread that show modifiying to RK pipes for a little more sound. I just put a set on my '08 RSTD would like a little more sound, not much more though. The pipes did not have the cat. Converters in them. Thanks!
  5. Hey Eck, sounds good! Hopefully you'll be able to make it. Due to my strange work hours ( 4 on 4 off - 12 hour nights) it has been hard to make it to the meet-and-eats. Haven't seen any of the fellow venture riders since the meet at Fibbers. Just thank God to still be working though. As long as people to eat and drink out of cans I should have good job secuirty.
  6. Once you remove the bags, pipe hanger bolt and loosen the clamps they should slide off very easy. I just give mine a little twisting motion while pulling them off. There was not a gasket on my '08. Put the Road King Pipes on mine. Didn't need any gasket, the pipes tighten down good and snug no leaks.
  7. The chrome pieces on my air cleaners are some stick on fender accents I picked up from Advance Auto Parts. Romoved the backing and used a heat gun to give them a curve since the air boxes aren't flat. Then just stuck them on with double sided tape. Got about $15 in the whole deal. Now for those that wanted to know. The other bike in the background is my fathers '98 Honda Valkyrie Tourer. It is an awesome bike. My RSTD has some get up and go but his bike still leaves me in the dust. Sounds like a small airplane when riding beside it. He bought it brand new and has never had a bit of trouble out of it. Just change fluids, plugs and tires the normal stuff. When I moved out I just went to the house next door so he keeps it in my garage. Maybe one day it will be mine, but I wish him many more riding years to come. Not in any hurry at all, but it is a gorgeous machine. Still can't believe Honda quit making it. Here are a few more pics of it for you guys.

  9. I know they are a little late but I figured better late than never. Here are some pics of my '08 RSTD I purchased back in June. Hope you guys like. Also I have included a pic of my family at the Foothills Parkway and a pic of the bike I had to let go to get my RSTD. I do miss my V Star from time to time though.
  10. Are these the ones you guys are looking for, they are the only other deflectors I know of. I've been looking at getting a set for my RSTD. Don't really like the looks but the fuction really well. My dad has a set on his Valkyrie. http://www.bakerbuilt.com/yamaha.htm
  11. Hey guys, I have decided to sell a few of my accessories. Here they are, figured I would list them hear before going to ebay. PM me if you are interested. Baron's Bag Slash Slip-On Exhaust Paid $350.00 will take $250.00 plus shipping. These were only on the bike for about a month and are still in new condition. Driver Backrest This can be seen in my profile photo. It attaches to the bike with no modification and can be removed with no tools. Paid $150.00 will take $100.00 plus shipping. Cycle Sounds Speakers Paid $350.00 will sell for $200.00 plus shipping. Google Cycle Sounds and check them out. They work great if you are using stock exhaust but I would not recommend them if you will be adding loud pipes. Here is a link to my YouTube video if you would like to see and hear the pipes and other accessories. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqONccuv7E4]YouTube - '08 Royal Star Tour Deluxe w/ Barons Nasty Boy Exhaust[/ame] There is nothing wrong with any of these items. I have just ordered RK Mufflers, Mustang Seats and Chatterbox intercom units over the winter and don't need these anymore. Also, I have multiple items left off my 99 1100 V-Star I traded in on this bike. One item being a set of Cobra Slash Cut Slip on Exhaust. I will be listing them in the classifieds next time I am off work.
  12. I've had an iPhone since the day they came out. It was very easy to use for me. They do not come with an instruction manual, though you can buy one at books-a-million or any other book store cheap. I've never had a problem with my iPhone, neither have any of the other friends I have that have them. I have the 1st Gen 8 Gig phone. I didn't upgrade to the 3G because there really wasn't any difference in the phones other than the 3G data network, I don't get 3G where I live so it wouldn't have benifited me anyway. As far as the Maps feature goes. It comes on the phone. At first it was pretty plain but has gotten better in the last year due to upgrades. You will have to upgrade to one of the designated iPhone plans when you activate it and all of them should have unlimited data on them so you want get charged extra for the large amount of data you will be using. My bill actually went from 80 dollars a month to 69 dollars a month when i swapped plans. Just make sure you have iTunes on your computer so you can sync up and get the newest software updates for the phone. I do it at least once a month. If you have any other ?'s feel free to ask. Best phone I've ever had.
  13. Hey, Eck. Yes the notch is for the lid to hinge open. I tried to get change the design to a side open lid to avoid the large notch, but the aluminum fab guys already had the large compartment sheared and broke when I got to it.
  14. Just thought I would post a few pics of my new trailer. Finally finished building the frame and sent it to the aluminum guys to have the boxes made. All I have left is to finish installing the lights, carpet the boxes and build the hitch for my bike. I'll post more pics later when it is complete.
  15. I signed up for this shift. It was either 12 days on, 2 days off on 8 hour shifts. Or 4 days on, 4 days off on 12 hour shifts. I'm just waiting of someone to retire so I can have day shift.
  16. Pegscraper, I haven't had time to get back with him yet to talk more. But when I find out I will let you guys know. I work 12 hour nights and my off days fluctuate. I would rather let this fellow work on my bike than the guys at the dealer I purchased it from. I asked him about the "I" basket and that is when he brought up the modified stock clutch. Dad was in a hurry to get his bike back together and ride so we headed home.
  17. I agree with your statment too Eck. Would seem hard for that to happen, I don't know. Just relaying the info I got form the service manager. Like I said I have known him for a while and my father has known him since the '70's. Could have been shooting me a line of crap but as long as yamaha fits the bill to check it out, alright with me. Personally mine has been fine since the splines were lubed.
  18. This weekend my father and I visted a local Honda/Yamaha Dealer to have some new Avons balanced on his Valkyrie wheels. While there I was talking to the service manager. We have been friends with this gentleman for awhile. I was discussing with him my new RSTD and about the reaccurring problem with dry hubs and clutch whine. My clutch has not developed the whine yet. He said just wait it will. He told me that he has been fixing them with modified stock clutches for a few years and it seems to do the trick. Back to my original statment. I told him that I had recently taken my bike in to have the rear end cliking fixed. He asked me if I had them check the axle. I told him as far as I know all they did was grease the splines, and it has been working fine. He said he has had many Ventures/RSTD's come in with this problem. After greasing the splines the owner would come back a few months later with same problem. (They are using Moly 60 by the way.) After a while he got to noticing that the axles were bent slightly. He started cheking them when they come in for first go around and noticed that alot of them were not torgued correctly. Yamaha did not give a correct torgue specification for the rear axle and this was causing the axle to get bent slightly. This was not on all, but on alot over the years he stated. He told me to bring it in if I wanted and he would check it for me. Thoght I would pass this on to you guys in case you wanted to check it out.
  19. A few months ago I ordered a set of Barons Bag Slash for my '08 RSTD. I enjoy the sound of them I'm only having one problem. When they shipped the pipes to me they sent the wrong size exhaust clamps. They were stainless and not big enough to cover the gap where the slip on ends and the bare pipe below shows. I called them and they said they would ship the clamps to me. After waiting 2 months the clamps arrived they are the right diameter just still way to narrow to cover the gap. I'm tired of dealing with them. I have a friend with a 04 Venture and his pipes came with some wide chrom clamps. Does anyone know where I can get a set of the wide chorme exhaust clamps. Thanks to all!
  20. I installed a set of these as well on my '08 RSTD, I'm having the same problem.
  21. Hey I have recently decided to modify and old trailer I had around the house to pull behind my RSTD. Almost got the frame ready to sand blast and paint. Got a few guestions. 1. What is the recommended tounge weight for these bikes and what is the max that should be pulled. 2. What is the best way to wire the bike for the trailer lights, as I will be doing the wiring myself. 3. I have heard rumors that towing a trailer will void my warranty, is this true? 4. Any advice other advice you can give! Thanks in advance for the help!
  22. Hey at least they got the manufacture right witht the bottom pic. Honda Magna 750 use to have one myself, somewhat wish I still did. That thing was fast. I love the 1st Gen shown for the Wing though. I just realized that the magna was a V4. Guess I just have a thing for the V4 engines.
  23. I had thought about putting a pouch on mine as well, still haven't decided yet though. Here is a post from a few months ago that might help you out. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=23994&highlight=Windsheild+Bag
  24. Hey guys, I know some of you own multiple types of bikes and was wondering if you could give me a hand. I have been working on my girlfriends 04 883 Sportster and it's about to drive me nuts. It has been backfiring through the carb. I adjusted the mixture screw to richen it up and that didn't help. I upped the slow jet one size bigger and played with the mixture now it's running more on the rich side. But it still backfires thru the carb. Carb backfire is usually a sign of lean but it does it running rich as well. Really don't want to take it to the dealership. Wallet is already on the light side as it is. Any help you might could give would be appreciated. Thanks!
  25. I have been riding some form of bike since I was 9 years old. Been riding on the roads since I was 14 years old. I personally have always ridden a Honda or Yamaha. I have ridden Harley Road Kings, Street Glides and Sportsters that my friends have owned. When decinding to upgrade from the 1100 Vstar 2 months ago. My dad and I shopped around. Him not being a Harley fan he told me I could get whatever made me happy Harley or not. (I needed a co-signer so his opinion mattered to.) I looked at Harley Street Glides and Road Glides but just couldn't see spending that kind of money to get it like I would like. I went with an '08 RSTD, after adding the exhaust, stereo and everything else I am about at what the base price for the Road Glide was. I think Harley makes great looking machines and if they ever come down on the price I might own one. Loving every minute of my Tour Deluxe though. On another note, a friend of mine bought an '04 Sporster Custom. When she brought it by for me to look at, I realized it was way to tall for her. She has dropped it a few time mainly because in certain situation she can't get a good stance on the bike to hold it up. We have lowered it even more, put a lower seat on it and it is still to high. She expressed the other day she had thought of getting rid of it and getting a V Star or something else lower to the ground. Then she made the comment, " I JUST LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS THOUGH !". While I understand that, I told her I didn't understand sacrificing saftey for style. Most of the time we get ready to ride she just hops on the back of the RSTD with me. I guess it's just part of the, I own a harley mental thing. I have taken alot of grief over the years for not owning a Harley, but I love the Jap bikes. If not having a Harley make me uncool, who cares. At least I ride. My idea is, if it has two wheels or sometimes 3. Let's ride. It's not the destination it's the journey.
