K&N air filters
mashley replied to jrsain's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I believe if you run the K&N Filters on the RSTD, you have to purchase the billet air cleaner covers ($400) from yamaha to run them. This is why I haven't used them. I believe the K&N filters are a little to large to use with the stock covers. This is the information I was given. Just something to keep in mind before you purchase the filters. -
RSTD Spotlight Help
mashley replied to farm1810's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
If you plan to add more accessories later I would recommend on of these switch housings. Allows for the addition of switches with no drilling of any of the panels. I have my light bar on one, amp for speakers on another and a light inside my trailer on the last one. Works well and the light from the switches aren't bright enough to blind you at night. -
Just ordered one of these

The Chrome forks on the S model are pretty easy to keep clean, just soap and water. The reseviors I have to polish pretty regular to keep them from looking dull. Use Eagle One Never Dull metal polish on the parts that aren't chrome. -
I had one of those that attached to the luggage rack. Sold to a member here. I had to remove it everytime I used my tour pack riding two up. It was a good flag mount.

I couldn't remember if I had already posted this or not, did a search and couldn't find anything. I installed these a few years ago right before Vogel and haven't had any problems with them. These are flag mounts for Harley Davidson Saddle Bag Rails. They fit on RSV and RSTD bag rails with no modification. Just have to remove the bags to install them. I have small flags on them now that I use for long trips, but they came with bigger ones. They cost me about $ 100 each at a little shop I found. They come with an American Flag, POW flag and a crossbones flag. They are made by Kuryakyn, Part# 4208. Here is the website is you want further info: http://www.kuryakyn.com/Products/854/Side-Mount-Flags-Kit Just thought I would share with everyone.

Here are some pics of the way I installed mine. I used two piece chrome clamps and stainless fasteners to attach the speakers to the handle bars. All the wires from the speakers and the amp are connected under the tank. I ran switched power to the amp to one of the switches above my clutch resevoir. Ran the aux input to my phone holder and control everything from the phone. The amp is completely sealed up so there is no need to hide it in a waterproof place. I just turn it off each time I turn the key off so it doesn't draw power when trying to start the bike. The remaining switches are for my light bar and a light inside my trailer that I can turn on without having to turn on the bike. -

I installed a set of these speakers two years ago. I used a different amp though. I think the amp came from cycle sounds. The amp was a lot smaller and chrome. I mounted it behind the headlight with the cable running to the handle bar mount for playing songs off the iphone. Will post some pics of mine if I can find my camera. The speakers sound great. -
Beer30's Stebel Horn Relocation
mashley replied to BEER30's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Looks good!! I didn't wont mine on my RSTD to be visible. I used a similar method. I seperated the horn from the compresser. Mounted the horn under the bike. Ran a hose around to the right side cover under the seat. Mounted the compresser in between the frame and battery box and the relay behind the side cover. Had it on the bike for over a year now, works pretty well. -
I had to let you guys see this. This is me and my dad. As we were leaving Home Depot the other day a man on an Ultra Classic stop me and asked, "What......you guys couldn't get ladder racks with those bikes?" I just smiled and rode off. I figured afterward I would take a pic and let you guys see.

Eck, we may just wait with you and ride back in with everyone. I'll talk it over with the folks and see if they're up for it.

We'll be meeting you guys in telico plains to ride the skyway. We are in pigeon forge now so it won't take us too long to get there. We'll head to blairsville at the end of the skyway. Don't feel comfortable pulling the trailer thru the dragon. Is there only one exxon in telico plaines, don't wanna be at the wrong one.

When I worked for a detail shop we used lacquer thinner to remove tar and bugs from chrome bumpers. I have been using it on my exhaust pipes to remove tar and burned on boots for years. Most poeple think I'm nuts, but just do it on a set slightly warm pipes.

I will be there. Plan to arrive on Friday. My parents will be coming too on their bike. Total 2 bikes 3 people. Can I just put all information on one form. I will send registration form and check( or money order) whichever you prefer Thursday after I get my paycheck. I will let you know t-shirt sizes tomorrow. Which colors are available.

I just put a set of Road King pipes on my 2008 RSTD. I installed them in about an hour the first time with no modification. I will say that at that point I was not impressed. I pulled them back off and went to the Delphi forum and printed out the instructions on doing all 4 stages of modifications. Started with Stage 1, drilled 4- 1/2" holes in the inlet baffle plate. Re-installed, still wasn't enough sound. Went to Stage 2 drilling the 1 1/4" baffle plug out of the outlet side. Re-installed them again and there it was exactly what I wanted. I get compliments all the time. Went to a bike night Monday night and a guy riding a RKing recognized the pipes and wanted to listen. He said it sounded like an old '54 Bel Air with glass packs. I am very pleased and if I ever want to be louder I still have Stages 3-4. I will agree that without modification they are not much louder than stock. As for gasket, didn't need one. The chrome v-twin clamps most of us use are notched on the inside. Mine sealed perfect, no leaks. Except on the header pipes at the Y, but that is a yamaha defect that alot of us had. I ordered my mouting brackets out of the classifieds here and they came with all the new bolts needed to do the job. I got about $80 in the whole setup. If you want more sound try the mods, if you want nasty loud, get the baron's 4-2-4 or bag slash nasty boys. I had these and they were too much for me. My only regret is not going with the RK mufflers first. Just my 2cents. Safe riding to you!

Answering a few questions: NCReb: Yes the clear lenses are amber turn signals. They only come on when the trun signals are on. I picked them up at Tractor Supply. tx2sturgis: It is hard to tell by the pics, but there is swivel. The joint allows for up/down and left/right movement. We made the hitch ourselves. The set screws you see hold a piece of solid stock that bolts in the tube. There is a solid shaft attached to the bike end of the yolk. It is caped off on the other end were it cannot come off. This shaft allows for the bike to lean while everything else stays in-line. The blue you see is some thin nylon washers we made to cut down on some noise. With grease in the shaft. It makes no noise what so ever like you get with a ball. You can lay the bike completly on its side and the trailer stays upright with no binding or stress on the bike. My father towed a pop-up with this type of hitch for years. The baby moons are golf cart hub caps. I had a set of spacers made to push the wheels out 5/8" more so the caps would clear the bearring covers. Bought some longer wheel bolts from NAPA and it was set. Hope this helps a little.

Well, it only took me about a year start to finish but she is finally finished. The aluminum boxes were the only items purchased elsewhere. Everything else was done at our home. Of course the day I get it put together it is raining outside. Had to wait until 11pm to take her for a test run. Pulls great, I just need a little more practice. First time pulling a trailer, was a little nervous. Hope you guys like. I've been ever since the last bolt went in!!!!!!

I just checked out Ruffy's photos, his look like the yamaha rails as well. I have personaly never seen any other manufactures for bag rails for the Ventures or Tour Deluxes. Hope this helps.
