  1. Dozer, I'm expecting the rear Shinko to arrive any day now. I'm still thinking I'll just remove the old tires myself and take them to a local tire store for balancing. But we'll see... BTW, love the color of your scoot in your pic. Is that a custom paint job? Did you do that yourself? I'm thinking of doing something like that myself. ***I was talking about the "Blue" scoot that I saw in your pics.
  2. Wow! I take a day off from reading the forum and look at all the responses. You guys are GREAT! Fuzzy, thanks for the tut. I feal like I really can do this now. And Hummingbird, thanks for the info too. But I think Humad tire is going to be a bit closer for me. Thanks again everybody.
  3. Oh I plan on being there. I didin't even think about tires at Don's. Can I do the back tires there too?
  4. Hello all, I was just wondering if there is anyone close to Akron Ohio that might be able to help change out my tires? I'm willing to take them off and all, but I don't have the tools to break them down and spin balance them. If someone's got their on little garage that is willing to help, I'd be more than willing to through a few bones their way for the effort. Please feel free to PM me. Like I said, I'll take the old tires off and on, I just need help getting the new tires on the wheel hub and balance them. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the link. I think I'm going to try this on my scoot too. I really like the look. Which style did you use, Glossy or Dry?
  6. Great mod. Thanks for sharing. BTW, where did you get the graphite film? How is it installed?
  7. That's what I thought. Thanks a bunch.
  8. Do the 1983 tires take tubes? In other words do I need to order tubes along with my new tires? Thanks
  9. Yeah, I was looking at that. Looks really nice. And if I'm going to have to spend $174 bucks on just the brakets, I might as well buy the Utopia. Thanks everyone for their imput.
  10. bongobobny Wow I had know idea that just the brakets to put the darn backrest on would cost $174.00! lsutley I have a black seat, but I guess I could always get it covered. Can you send me over some pics? Thanks
  11. I'm still interested in finding a driver backrest for my 83. I dont' see any on fleabay. Anyone knwo where I might be able to pick one up? Anybody out ther got one they'd like to part with? Maybe something off a parts bike? Thanks
  12. Thanks guys. Went with these: http://www.ridedirect.com/p/shinko-230-tour-master.html?oid=702&a=s&sh=120/90-18&sh1=0 Seemed like a pretty good price. And I've seen on the forums that a lot of people like them. Thanks for the help.
  13. I'm looking to get some tires for my 83. Anyone found a good deal? My local stealer is offering a pair of Dunlop for $269 (pair). and $52.00 for labor. Does this sound ike a good deal? Thanks.
  14. Well, I'm feeling pretty good today. Last night I took a look at that leak exhaust leak and it turned out to not be as bad as I feared. Looks like the gaskets on the front part of the canister/collector connected to the front pipes have failed or rusted or whatever. So since I figured I'm not planning on removing the pipes anytime soon, and I didn't have the money for the expensive gasket, I just ended up using some of that high temp steel puddy that you can pick up at O'Reilly's. And forced it into the crack/leak and voilà...no more leak! And I honestly don't think it looks too bad either. Bottom line..."no more stink!" The wife is happy...I'm happy!
  15. Pretty cool! Where did you pick that up at?
  16. Thanks George. I've got a pretty good set of metric craftsman tools so I should be good. I completely forgot about the VR-Tech area. Found what I needed. Well, wish me luck. Hopefully this will go well.
  17. Does anyone know or have a link of how (the direction?) that the exhaust gaskets go? I mean they look different on each side. I'm not user which direction they should face. Is there some picture or drawing somewhere that I can check out? Thanks!
  18. Could be, but I think its more like the seals/rings around the y-pipe and the seals around the front pipes where they connect to the collector. That's where I see the fumes coming from.
  19. Big job huh? Great Well, I'll sure give it a try and hopefully get to the bottom of why it smells so bad. It's not gas or anything, just the normal exhaust smell, but you can see it leaking and coming up under the seat and it makes rider and passenger smell/sick. So needless to say my wife isn't enjoying any riding. Yeah, any help/advice would be great! And if somone would like to hang out for the day and give me a hand, that would be good too. Cheers!
  20. Hello, Been awhile since I've been on. My 1983 is up an running for the season, but I still am having trouble with a "serious" exhaust leak. I mean it seems to be leaking in several different locations. I have purchased new gaskets for all the pipe locations. And I guess I'm going to try and tackle it this coming weekend. But I was wondering if there is anyone out there (in my local area of Akron Ohio) that has done this type of thing before and would like to give me a hand? If you can help out or give some advice and would like to get together this weekend, drop me a PM and we'll exchange info. Thanks everyone.
  21. I had the EXACT same problem. And after putting in a DEKA, my bike starts every single time. You can't go wrong
  22. Just to jump in here. I've been out of commision this summer. And won't be ridding anytime soon. Had a pretty bad accident in May. (Not on the my bike at the time thank God!) But I've been on the mend and though I'm still not able drive because of medical reasons, I've been itchin, and so I've started working on it. Anyhoo, I went out an bought one of those DEKA AGM batteries at O'Reilly's, and WOW what a difference! My bike was having all kinds of trouble on cold starts! I had already replaced the cables with the larger mods. But I was still using the OEM battery. This new DEKA with the 310 CCA is like night an day. I've still got a lot of work that I want to do, but man does it make such a difference in your attitude about your bike when is "starts" when you want it to. LOL Just my 2 cents. ~Cheers
  23. I'm looking for information on: 1. Where to get a driver back-rest for my '83? and 2. How to mount it? Did they even make back-rest for the '83?
  24. Ok, so this just got strange! I went out and put the "new" batter on a trickle charge and then the next day the bike just started. I mean it has now started "everyday" just like clock work. First try...without choke! It's never started without a choke before. I don't understand this. I can let the bike get stone cold and she'll start up again on the first try without a choke. Anyone ever had this happened to them. Must have been gremlins!
  25. Gary, I live over by Chapel Hill Mall. Easy to get to my house off of RT 8 and the Howe Rd exit. Send me an email at jherman312@hotmail.com and I'll get you my address proper. And thanks, I really can use all the help I can get at this point. Jack
