Does anyone already run with Harley Davidson Take Off Mufflers, "Slash Cuts"? Are these obnoxiously loud or just a good deep throaty rumbler sound like a decent set of pipes should be, without getting you in trouble with the coppers and their db Sensors? I love the Venture but the girlie sound is too akin to a Geezer-Glide and I'd like to man it up some.. (Ok, too much coffee first thing this morning..) I've seen it advertised on eBay and the utoob clips sound OK but how can ya tell without being there eh? But the price is right.. Thanks in advance..

Tres cool! I think know where you are =) I'll jot down your info as I might well be laying over in Maine on my way down to NYC on the 11th of Sept.. I usually do well with my military and or CAA/AAA discounts but my 'neice' might be able to do me one better since this is going to be long road trip, it might be worth the while.. And to say Hello to a fellow Venturer hehehe.. I'm sorta pooched for big bike trips this year due to the surgery in June and this big trip in Sept but next year I am going to Rolling Thunder and Laconia so I'll definetly be passing through a few times.. Thanks M8! Downhome hospitality!

Wasn't Sinatra from Hoboken? Anyway, someone was gracious enough to set me up with a stay over studio which is awesome as you stay at the studio for the weekend while you get your work done.. sorta like studio apartments.. gotta like that! Now to see if I can find the same thing in Columbus and Detroit =) Cheers M8

Hi guys, talk about a fish out of water.. I'm hoping one of you lads or ladies are able to help me with this one.. I have to do some photography work near Manhattan (NYC) next month and just realized that hotels / motels are brutally expensive there.. wow.. However, someone clued me in that staying across the river in NJ (Hoboken for example) is a lot more affordable. However, I'm not sure where on that side of the river is safe, quiet and reasonable. I'm hoping someone is familiar with the area as to make a few recommendations.. ? What I need is a room for 3 people (2 beds) and large enough for us to work from for three days. A suite would be nice but them's expensive.. so hopefully there might be somewhere with larger rooms available at a decent price. If you know of a good place or can point me somewhere to start looking, I'd dearly appreciate it. Cheers

Same in Nova Scotia.. that is.. cough cough, if you get caught.. However, in Ontario on the 400 series highway, you just wait for the beemer to blast by and follow that car from a safe distance.. Let HIM bust the radar before you come up to the trap.. I was surprised at how fast people drive in Ontario on those highways.. Go figure though... max speed in Ontario / Quebec 100 kph... Nova Scotia and New Brunswick 110 kph.. Fun!

Thanks M8, simple and cheap works for me.. =) What parts of Maine you in? I go through there a lot, usually on my way to Rolling Thunder.. Next month in the car only because of the camera gear and two models traveling with me.. A good excuse for caging it say wot?

Crap!! I should have seen this before I had the fairing off this weekend!! argh! Many thanks for itemizing what I should be looking at.. The bike is down hard for a week waiting for critical brake parts now.. I live in that geographical oddity zone where everything takes a week to be shipped in.. and it's a long week's wait.. At least it's raining this week which makes the withdrawal symptoms more endurable.. =) Thanks again M8

"When the weather warms up".. bass ackwards downunder! yes, I appreciate it's winter down under right now but is it really that cold? Sorry for the ignorance, I've never been down there but funny enough I didn't think it would get that cold out there in the winter.. But do let us know about the switch on your bike, maybe Aussies don't need them like some drivers don't need the turn signal switch ; )

I bought my 06 Midnight used from a private sale.. The bike had 404's on them and after 24,000 miles of the previous rider's travels, the rear tire was shot and the front soon following. My 2005 Vstar came with 404's on the rims and those didn't last long what so ever. So on the VStar I put ME880 which laster forever.. awesome tires for that bike.. But for the Venture I installed E3's in the front and rear and the bike rode so much better than it did with the previous tires (of course but as bad as the previous tires were, anything would have been better) but the E3s are awesome tires on this bike. Shop around for the best price though, I got mine cheaper from an out of town seller than I could have gotten 404's locally.. ; ) The salesman you dealt with was either trying to upsell tires or passing on his personal recommendation of what he honestly felt were the better tire. We automatically assume they's trying to rip us off.. but if he were that committed towards the E3's he would have made you a super savings deal.. if his conscience was full of concerns ; ) Can't go wrong with E3s

Have a look at the manual about this snag and tell me if the book was a good purchase.. for me it's not telling me anything about this error or how to located the components or any form of troubleshooting.. I can't find mention of the "haz lights or 4 way flashers".. I might be blind but I can't find it in the book..
-
I don't think the switch is the problem as when it is in the HAZ pos, the signal lights don't work.. and the fuses check out serviceable.. Hence why I am thinking it's the relay.. But which of them is the relay and where is it located, the manuals downloadable from here aren't showing very much (kinda useless for this snag, to be honest... ergh)

Ah many thanks M8.. I'll have a look see.. Cheers

The discs on my 2005 VStar are the floating type as well. Since a lot of my older VStar parts fit on my 06 Venture, I wonder if the discs would also?
-
They are on the 2005 as well. its a switch up by the cruise control switches on the right hand cluster on the bar... The 4 way flasher switch slides up and down.. long narrow looking thing..
-
erhm are any of you gents and ladies electrically inclined to be able to help me out with this one? I've come to realize that my 4 way flashers no longer work, I am not able to find a clymer book to help me with the trouble shooting so I'm hoping one of you savvy individuals can assist me.. With the bike running or not, ignition switch on (bike not running), I have my turn signals working properly if the 4 way flasher switch is to "off" position. However, when the 4 way flasher switch is to the "on" position, the signal lights won't flash. Someone has told me that it's a simple 4 way relay change but don't know the part number or location or 'anything else' about it.. Anyone able to help me out with this one? Many thanks in advance! Cheers
-
Many thanks!! Now I gotta get my 4 way flashers working on the bike as well.. (just found them not to be working last night.. ergh!!) Cheers

Last year I took one in the front wheel, it zoomed across the road but ended up in the cast wheel spokes and got chewed up and messed up all over the engine etc. My friends note that if anything bad is going to happen, it's going to happen to me.. Not because I've got bad luck but because I'm on the bike so much the odds are against me. Hmm this is probably why they have me lead a pack ride... ?! Luckily thus far (knock wood) it's only been the minor stupid little things like this and not the big bad dangerous things. I've ever so careful of cagers that I avoid getting into problems with them.. but end up in probs with anything and everything else ; ) Cheers

Go ahead and laugh, my buddies did.. good thing I wear a helmet, I can just imagine what that would have felt like without a helmet.. croid.. The pigeon in the shoulder left a huge blue welt that lasted weeks later.. But here's the "wood pecker" story that started my bird strike streak of bad luck (me and the birds). Coming back into town from a photoshoot on my 1100 Vstar, I saw a large bird on the road, just before a curve.. The bird didn't seem to be bothered by the roar of my pipes as I approached it but suddendly it sprang up and flew directly towards me instead of taking evasive action. It struck me very hard in the left knee cap and bounced up into my face, flapping away as the wind was pushing it up against my helmet's visor etc. I couldn't see where I was going and I knew there was a severe turn coming ahead with a solid guard rail with ocean on the other side so I braked for all I was worth as I was shaking my head side to side trying to shake the bird free from my face.. All of this in a split second I suppose but it felt like a life time.. Then the bird suddenly disapeared and I was able to make the turn just in time.. Croid now THAT was scary, and not funny at all.. As I got closer to my coffee stop joint, I was stopped in traffic at the lights and a convertable car pulled up with cute girls in it.. they looked over at me and broke out giggling pointing at me and said something... but the light changed and off we went.. I had no idea what that was about. I pulled into the coffee joint parking lot and as I reached down to turn the key I notice what they girls were laughing about.. Right there, between my legs was a rather large wood pecker, sitting pretty and looking around, very much alive and well behaved.. My friend in the parking lot couldn't figure out what was sitting there but once they did, you can imagine the silly jokes and comments coming out eh? One of the ladies recognized the bird as an endangered species and called for someone to come get the bird.. Yeah no kidding, go figure. That's why I ended up with a huge knot on my knee cap and the bird survived the hit.. It flew up into my face and fell down to between my legs for the long ride back into town. And I can only imagine the girls in the convertable car looking over and seeing this red headed crowned wood pecker's head jutting up from my crotch (as it were).. looking around as if I were taking my pecker out for a ride on the bike.. I'm not superstitious or anything but that's when all the problems with the bird strikes started, a few years ago...

Nice, many thanks... Where do you get the wiring harness from? Pardon my lack of knowledge but what is the 'stinger' they refer to, is that the bar that fits into the hitch on which the ball is attached to? If I'm starting from new, I'm guessing the full package deal is what I'll need (plus wiring harness?) Cheers!
-
Thanks M8.. Much appreciated! I do a lot of photography and would dearly love to ride the bike to some of the distant photo sessions instead of caging it.. lighting gear towed behind me would make this possible =) Cheers!

What's the best recommended trailer hitch for a 2006 Venture? In real world situations, how much can you safely pull with these bikes, how much tongue weight etc? I've always found the books will tell you one thing but real world experience say something else. I'm always one to err on the side of caution and safety but need to know the max values for those 'just in case' situations. Cheers

Light Bulb Replacement
Seaking replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
MANY thanks Wayne.. Looks like the fairing will be coming off for this job lol.. I have big hands. I'll try the Silver Star bulb you mentioned, as well. Cheers M8 -
Before I got the 2006 Midnight this summer, I rode my modded 2005 1100 Vstar a lot.. 80,000 kma in 2 years.. And in those two years I've had a lot of bird strikes while riding. Luckily, the three that hit my person didn't cause me to come off the bike but it hurt like hell. The others that hit the bike left a lot of mess. Most noteably was the pigeon that hit me in the shoulder and exploded in a large puff of feathers that my ride mates ran through.. (The wood pecker story is a whole page in itself.. ; ) And once I got my Venture, I figured my bad luck would follow since it's a bigger bike, a larger target for these birds to hit.. But after 4500 miles, no worries until recently.. sigh. I'm riding along the back road in the lead with my ride buddies in trail when all of a sudden there's a loud sharp WHACK to the back or top of my helmet, scaring the living heck out of me.. I pulled over right away as I had NO idea what had happened.. yep, sure enough, a bird hit the left antenna and it bent all the way back and then snapped forward to strike my helmet with a nice whack.. My buddies behind me saw this happen, the puff of feathers from a small bird and then my jumping out of the seat at being startled by the hit of the antenna.. Good thing they were there to tell me about as I don't think I would have figured it out on my own.. I didn't think the antenna would reach that far.. Go figure.. I don't worry about deer in the road a lot.. its the dang birds I worry about..
