But comparing the Victory to the Venture - The Victory is a NEW Bike. They continue to refine their design. The Venture is an OLD design. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Venture, but Yamaha needs to get with the program and make the small refinements along the way. Or, one could look at it another way - Yamaha did such a great job with the 2nd Gens, they feel they don't NEED to refine anything. craigr

Motorcycle Cruiser? I've gotten it for a few years and they seem to get an awful lot of HDs to test ride compared to other bikes. They have had the Venture in there ONE time that I know of since I have gotten the subscription. I may try a couple of these others before renewing my subscription.

I want to edit some videos I took with the camera, do any of you have a free program that you like?

This happened around here in Omaha in the 80s. Dealers folded up left and right. we were stuck with just a few. They seemed to try to really get all they could up front and drove costumers away, rather than a smaller amount up front to keep us coming back. - Basically they drove us away. That seems to be the way things are done now a days . everyone wants to get rich right away, rather than building a loyal customer base. Craiger

I would like to announce the Wedding of Kayla Caddel and James M Russell! They got married today at a wonderful Wedding and a wonderful Reception. I anxious to get to know the Caddel family and welcome / blend them into the Russell Family! Of course with our youngest out and on his own with his new Bride, I guess we will have to ride more to keep us from getting bored.

Instead of trying to weed out posts that are worthless after ## days, would it be easier to collect posts that are worth keeping for an extended amount of time? I spend most of my time in the Watering Hole, and there are posts that are more just sociallizing than informational. Why keep those? Another area of posts are the 'Need prayers for...' - I'm not trying to say these are un-needed, but do we need to see them a year from now? The Tech sections are definately worth keeping for quite a while. Just something to think about. craigr

BTW, we took a trip to the Amana Colonies a couple of w/e's ago and we chose not to wear our helmets while there, so my wife used the clip that came with the camera and just clipped it to her forhead on her head wrap. It worked okay, but she got a lot of shots of the top of my head and a lot of the sky. So she will need more practice that way. We have yet to figure out a way to attach it to our helmets. I don't want it mounted to the bike, as I don't want a video of just straight ahead and the SUV I am following for 10 miles. craigr

I ran into the same problem and showed it to a camera buff here at the office. He said that it probably was the memory chip. 'Probably the cheapest they could put in it.' He sent me a link to explain the difference in chips - http://www.berryreview.com/2009/01/12/faq-understanding-microsd-microsdhc-card-speeds-class-6-class-4-cards-write-read-speeds/ So, I sent away for an 8gig Class 6 chip and it made all of the difference in the world. The problem is that I paid $27 for a chip to go in my $25 camera! I'm loaning my camera to a friend to take hunting this coming w/e so he can see how it works for him before buying one. I recommend getting a faster memory chip. The picture quality was much better IMHO and worth the money. So, I have $50ish into a camera, it is MUCH cheaper than what I was going to buy. craigr

You may see us (and the scoot) in a soup commercial

Dog gonnit, I STILL haven't seen it. Is it on Youtube yet? -
I don't know how fast I had my 07, but while running against a Road King and a Sportster, I buried my speedo for what my wife said was quite a while. (I wasn't watching the speedo). My wife watched the speedo. Both HDs said they were very impressed with my 'Jap bike'. I wish I had my GPS with us to see how fast we were going. I doubt I will ever do that foolish thing again. My wife and I just returned from what is probably our last trip of the year. We left for the Amana Colonies yesterday morning at 0700 and just now returned. It was a nice short trip, (515 miles), but most of the fall leaves have already fallen. We took our new LITTLE MD80 video camera with us and clipped it to my wife's dew rag. I am anxious to see the videos to see how they turned out. I will post them to YouTube if they come out okay. We took our Roadstar trailer so we could load up on wine, beer and Root Bear. I averaged 34mpg at approx. 75 to 80mph. - Better than usual. The bike ran great. But I will have to check the heater out. It didn't seem to work as well this trip. Craigr

Thinking about the clutch.
craigatcsi replied to hig4s's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I DID look in the tech section and didn't see it in there. I saw something about the bearing, but don't need to replace that. My kit did come with bolts so no worry there. I take it tat I don't need the clutch tool then? -
Thinking about the clutch.

Well, I've been putting this off, riding instead. But my wife wants to go out of town this w/e, so I was going to make the change tomorrow after work. I just gave a look in the service manual and it mentions having to drain the clutch fluid, etc.. Do I really need to follow it's procedure? Do I need to buy the clutch tool? When I did this YEARS ago, it was pretty idiot proof. Is it more difficult on a hydraulic clutch? I am beginning to become intimidated. Craigr -
With all of the dealer bashing on the Web, I thought I would post a positive experience. I took my 07 Venture to Dillon Bros here in Omaha to get WWW tires this past Monday. They called me yesterday and told me the rear pads were very close & asked if I wanted them changed. Of course I told them to go ahead. This frustrated me because last time I had it there, 8k miles ago, they changed the rear pads. When I went to pick the bike up last night, I had them check their records and told them about them changing the pads last time. I thought maybe I was remembering wrong and they had changed the front. So, he checked his records and yes they did change the rear pads. I told him I don't understand how they could wear so fast, as 90% of my riding in highway AND I very seldom touch the rear brake, I almost always use the front. From looking at the pads, they obviously weren't dragging. So, neither of us had any idea what happened. So, while I was paying for the bill up front, he came from the service dept, and asked if I had already paid, which I had. He then gave me basically the cost of the brake job off my next service with them. I'm guessing that he was just going to write off this brake job, but since I had just paid, it was too late. I consider this very fair and something that I didn't expect. This will keep me coming back to them. craigr

What did you do wrong? -
How much does something like that cost?

You folks have convinced me about going with the 130 for the front, but I just now called Avon and told them that I have an 07Venture. They said they offer nothing for my bike in a WWW. I really want WWW this time. So I guess I will have to switch to Dunlops. But they don't appear to offer the 130 in WWW, So if I want the WWW, I will have to keep stock size. Craigr

Nah, I prefer the Cruiser look and seating position. I can't imagine 10 hour days on a modified Crotch Rocket. This of course includes all of the 'Sport Tourers'. Craigr
