When building one from Scratch, I would worry about it being strong enough to withstand the force of Wind a High Speed. When I was in my early 20s, I had a Honda 750F which was built up to make it VERY Fast. Anyways, the bike had a Vetter Windjammer on it. When I got over 130 - 140mph, I saw the Fairing kinda 'twist' / Move. Even as dumb as I was to go that fast, I backed down, (and lost the race), because I was afraid of the Fairing coming apart / off and killing me. - I was telling an older Mechanic friend of mine about the race and the Fairing twisting and he told me to stop and think about how much pressure is on a fairing at Highway speeds. 'Hold your Hand up flat when on the Highway'. Because of him saying that, I always consider wind resistance for my bikes as well as my Cages. Now that being said, IF you have the know how to make a Fairing, I am VERY anxious to see the results. I sure understand being tired of the HD look / Batwing look. That is one thing about my Venture that I REALLY like, that the Fairing looks so much different. craigr craig

Does a 'ReBody' Kit Exist or are you talking about doing one from scratch?

Well, it sounds like many of us really like it!! Now..... How do we make OUR Bikes do it!?

Speakers Replace?
craigatcsi replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Where does quality of the Speakers enter into it? I would sure think that $22 Speakers aren't as long lasting / durable as $100 speakers. Or.....??? -
Speakers Replace?

Okay, I did some reading and NOW I understand what this does. What I don't understand is how you chose this particular AMP. Why spend money for only 45 Watts? A couple of reviews say it isn't much louder than stock. Comparing the sound of the Stereo on the Venture with sound of the stereo on a Harley, I am embarrassed. The Harley is MUCH better. So wouldn't I want ALOT more watts? Or, is it simply a matter of money? I REALLY want my stereo to sound not only LOUD, but also produce QUALITY sound. I am willing to spend a lot to get it, but don't know how. -

Speakers Replace?

Great about the Speakers, I WILL be ordering new ones! What about this Amplifier thing? What is this thing? I know what one is for my house, but for a Bike? Does it fit in the Fairing? craigr -
Time to replace Handgrips
craigatcsi replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
While checking out the Amazon link above, I suddenly realized that some replacement grips won't work with my 'Cramp Buster' Throttle Cruise Assist. So, I may end up having to stick with the OEM Grips. Unless that is, if I can find aftermarket replacements of the same size or....... craigr -
The Handgrips on my 07 Venture are starting to crack and leave the palms of my hands dirty. So, it is time to replace them. I have been happy with the stock grips and thought about simply buying OEM replacements. But, I figured that perhaps you folks have found some that are better. What have you used? Also, are they a 'piece of cake' to replace? craigr

I would like to replace the speakers in the Fairing of my 07 Venture. I found these on Amazon - [ame=http://www.amazon.com/Bazooka-MCC4002-Motorcycle-Speakers-Venture/dp/B006VLR3J8/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1409998580&sr=8-13&keywords=Yamaha+Venture]Amazon.com : Bazooka MCC4002 4" 2-way Motorcycle Speakers for Honda Gold Wing and Yamaha Venture : Vehicle Speakers : Car Electronics@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Ocj47-J6L.@@AMEPARAM@@51Ocj47-J6L[/ame] My goal is to get better sound and I know little about Speakers. Number one, will these fit? Number two, are they any better than stock? I travel 2-up almost exclusively and my wife loves to sing to the radio. She says that she has a tough time hearing the radio at high speeds, I am hoping these will help with that. If these won't work, which model do I want? I don't want to say that 'money is no issue' But, I DO want to keep Momma happy. So, I am willing to pay good money for good speakers. craigr

Sweetness!! Welcome to the Ranks!!

Wow! She sure is Purdy! I just got mine in June and I sure wish I had taken it to the Hannigan factory to have the conversion done! Mine has been to the dealer, (75 miles away), several times for him to attempt to fix issues. I can still ride mine, but am constantly looking for something else to go wrong. So I went from a 'bullet proof' Venture that has taken me to 37 states without issues to a Venture / Hannigan that continues to have issues. - yes I am frustrated. The dealer has been TRYING and pleasant about it, but it sure wish that I had it done at Hannigan. I am confident that yours will be GREAT and you will love it as much as the rest! Congrats!!!

. Well, we made it home safely. We stayed our last night in a Comfort Inn in Silverton, CO. This is the WORST Hotel I have EVER stayed at in my many years of traveling. - My wife awoke in the night to find a bug crawling on her. Then, when she went into the bathroom, there were more crawling across the floor, and we were on the third floor!! The next morning I complained to the owner and he apologized, Gave us our money back and explained that they are trying to get rid of them. I asked another couple if they had seen bugs and they said the wife had seen many crawling across the floor. I guess it wouldn't have bothered me as much if we had chosen one of those $29.99 Hotels, but not at one of the higher priced. I did notify Corporate. I know that ANYWHERE can get a bug or two, but this place clearly has issues. Other than the Hotel incident, I rate this vacation as one of our best. We both thoroughly enjoyed our Trike conversion though we miss the leaning and the gas mileage. We got as bad as 18 and as good as 26mpg. I told my wife and others that we will be repeating our trip to CO & UT and, we have friends that say they will join us! craigr

Here we are in Silverthorne, CO, on our way home - kinda. We want to hit Rocky Mountain Park also. So, we ARE heading home, just the long way. So far, our 07Venture / NEW Hannigan conversion has performed well, (other than the reverse, which the dealer still can't get to work right). Otherwise, I think that three wheels has some Perc's over two wheels after all. Though it was quite a workout on a lot of roads through the mountains. This is where the two wheels has it made. It looks like I will have more of a workout to go back over the mountains. The stability and comfort has it tops in my book! Oh, and also, I LOVE the attention it draws. We had stopped for gas at one station and I struck up a conversation with an older man that happened to be from France. In his broken English, he explained that he and his family are on a tour. He then, again in broken English, said something about his Grandchildren and pictures. Well I thought he wanted me to use his camera and get a family picture of them. Wrong. Pretty soon 6 or more people got out their vehicle with cameras - taking pics of our Trike! Once we figured out what was going on, my wife and I went to move from the Trike and the Grandfather said 'NO! You stay by the motorcycle' - They wanted US in the pics. Then a couple of the teen boys walked closer to check out trike. I let them climb on for pics. THIS thrilled them, which thrilled my wife and I. After doing the Pic thing with them, they did the usual thank yous and they took pics and movies of my wife and I heading down the road. This REALLY made our day! It was great to see this much enthusiasm. Well, this story isn't over! The next day, while sitting in a restaurant, in Moab, two of these boys approached our table and, in broken English, say 'you remember us.' They thank us again, etc.. I then ask if they would email me a couple of their pics once they get home. He said he would of course, so I gave him my email address. - I am really looking forward to these. Anyway, as we were leaving, we walked by their table on our way out. Four of them followed us out to take more pics! So, I had to do it........ I offered rides. Wow did they go for this! While giving one a ride, the others were taking pics. I even gave their Grandmother, who spoke nor understands English, a ride. With each of these, when I left the parking lot and a couple of other places, I really cranked her up. I never got over 50ish, but in a short distance..... The only one that really commented was the Grandmother who, while I was getting on it, said 'Wee Wee!!' (This means Yes, Yes). I was impressed that this Grandmother was very comfortable and loved the acceleration! While I was giving rides, one of the Frenchmen that stayed at the restaurant explained to my wife that they do have m/c's in France but not Trikes. I didn't know this. We really enjoyed all of the attention and look forward to the pics! My wife used quite a few suggestions from this post as well as those from TrikeTalk. - Again, we appreciate those suggestions. We spent THREE days in Moab, UT. It started as a 'Day of Rest' to recuperate from a few LOOONG days of riding. We then found a couple of places to tour that were close to Moab, so we stayed another night. We stayed at Comfort Suites, other than the higher price, we were very happy with it. It is a VERY new Hotel and right on the main drag of Moab. I enjoyed Moab enough that I could've stayed there another night or two. The scenery in that area was really gorgeous! It was definitely NOT what I was imagining. The temperature was cooler than I expected. But, did you know that it rains in the desert? And it can rain HARD!!! While going across Monument Valley, we could see it raining miles ahead of us. I ask my wife if she wanted to put our rain gear on..... 'nah, we will be alright, just ride thru it'. Wow was this a mistake!! We hadn't wore our helmets and were dressed in T-Shirts. We were wearing goggles though. At one point it rained so hard that I lost sight of the car 30' ahead of me. I slowly pulled to the side of the road. The white line on the side of the road was all I could see. There was a large Pickup behind us and even though I had stopped, he stayed behind us. My wife and I believe that he did this to protect us from other vehicles hitting us as we were stopped. We made it through okay, other than being soaked. When we came to a town, we stopped at a gas station, changed clothes and put our rain gear on. We hit rain again today as we were traveling I-70 east. Hopefully we can avoid rain the rest of the trip, but I doubt it. more to come...... craigr

Okay, here is another symptom..... While going over the Continental Divide, I had pulled over to let my wife take pics. Well, I had shifted to low then stopped but left the engine on and just held the clutch for 15 seconds or so. When we left and I went to shift, it wouldn't come out of low!! So, I went a ways in low and would try shifting again. After several more attempts it roughly made it to 2nd but would go no further! But, as we were going downhill for a long ways, by the time I shifted again and I was much lower in altitude, it shifted as normally smooth as usual!! Is this normal for altitude or was I just imagining it? Again, this our first time at any real altitude on a bike that has been flawless for the last 40k miles from the east to the west coast and all over in between.

since I had my Hannigan kit installed, I too have had this intermittent radio. The installer called Yamaha and they told him amplifier is bad. So, he is going to send it tonClarion to have it repaired, at his cost. This doesn't make sense to me that it would happen during the conversion, but we will let Clarion decide if the amp is bad. - I still think it a connection or something grounding out, etc.. But I admit that I am an amateur at this wiring stuff. We will see.

Wow!! Thanks for all of the replies! We made it over the mountains without issues, except for the cold rain, and I adjusted to to power issue pretty fast. Once I learned that it would not hurt the bike and it is behaving normally, it's all good. Once I get home... As far as my floats, I think I will take your advice and tackle it to hopefully help with gas mileage. I also bought a ColorTune years ago and never took it out of the box, so maybe I will have to learn to use it! Thanks again for all of the replies! You folks to a lot of stress from me! craigr

We left Omaha this Morning two-up, on our 07 Venture / Hannigan Trike Pulling a Bushtec Trailer. I have plenty of power at home and mileage around 25 to 30mpg. We are now in Denver and gas mileage has dropped to 18 to 20mpg!! AND, I can't go any faster than 70mph!! Will higher octane help? How about sea foam? I know my carbs are balanced, I did them myself recently. It HAS to be the altitude. What can I do? I have no idea how to adjust the carbs for the altitude. Plus, we will be down in the desert tomorrow or the next day, so I would have to adjust them again. Are they easy to adjust for this? Any help would be appreciated. craigr

We are planning to head from Eastern Nebraska to Utah on our Trike simply to put CO and UT on our Map. We have seen western Nebraska many times and have nothing against it. In fact, I really like far western Nebraska. But, we have never seen western Kansas. We always stay mid to eastern Kansas. Well, it occurred to me that we COULD head southwest and travel thru Kansas on our way to Colorado. But, we have no idea what western Kansas looks like. If it looks like eastern Kansas, then I would rather stay in western Nebraska!! If any of you have been thru the western parts of both states, what do you think?

My wife and I have been watching the replies and appreciate all. After watching the food channel this evening, we got to talking about our upcoming trip. She said that we should try to hit some 'non-traditional' or 'non-franchise' restaurants. We would really like to try some different kinds of foods. So, if any of you folks can think of any along the ways, please speak up. craigr

My opinion Two weeks after my Trike Conversion.
craigatcsi replied to craigatcsi's topic in Watering Hole
I bought everything they offer and spent real close to 19k in all. This is including The Aux Tank and skid plate from CarbonOne. There are also a couple of upgrades you can do. To me, my Trike is worth every penny!! craigr -
yes, Hotels only for us. I love all of the replies, keep em coming! As my wife and I look back at our trips to the other 37 states we have hit so far, we keep finding roads / sites that we missed. Some we are willing to travel to again. So, for these two states, I figured asking others first would be the smart way to go. Thanks, and keep them coming! I plan to lay out a Map and figure the best route to hit as many suggestions as possible. craigr

I need a Vacation! Work has been Very stressfull the last couple of months and I want to break my new Trike conversion in with a longish road Trip. We need to add Colorado and Utah to our Map so that we have all if the states west of Iowa.so, I plan to take a week or so to do those two states. I can't walk much, so our site seeing is pretty much always from the bike. We have been thru Colorado in a Cage before but not on a bike. What places do you recommend? I know there are MANY things to see but I am only going to take a week, (7ish days), away from work. .
