  1. I have a Garmin GPS that it suddenly seems to take a loong time to find the Satellites. - Maybe 5 or 10 minutes. My wife couldn't get it to locate ANY while she was in Dallas. She finally gave up and got the paper map out. Recently, while on a 2-week trip I carried the GPS in the leather bag on my windshield. Could the vibrations have damaged it? craigr
  2. I didn't see one for the Venture. Did you send them a template to make one? I would like a WIDE one. craigr
  3. Congratulations!! A Ride is how my wife & I celebrated our 25th a couple of years ago - from Omaha to Rapid City, SD. I offered her a trip to Hawaii she suggested the bike trip!! It was our first trip up there without kids - We had a ball! craigr
  4. So just 'Help' isn't clear enough?
  5. On our recent cross country trip, I was stopping for gas every 100 to 120 miles. But I was running FAST when possible - to cover distance. I knew my mileage would suffer, and it did. If I had it to do over again, I might think about dropping my speed to keep the mileage up and enjoy more of the scenery. With Gas stops & traffic, I always figure 60 miles in an hour, even when running 75mph. I always seem to come out pretty close to guessing my arrival time correctly. That being said, running 75 mph instead of 70, isn't really saving THAT much time. But is does affect my mpg. Just something to think about. craigr
  6. I'm pretty sure I am going to do the Flanders bars this Winter. Are they pretty easy to change everything out? How long did it take you to do it? craigr
  7. Rick Butler's seat mods SAVED me!! Our trip from the Midwest to West Coast and back was Wonderful. There were quite a few gas stops that I didn't even get off the bike!! No more sore tail bone, like I had during last years trip from Omaha to the east coast & back. I can't say enough about his mods. craigr
  8. Uh Oh!!! When coming from the Hoover Dam there was a loooong down hill. I turned the engine off and just coasted for a mile or so. I guess I won't be doing THAT again!! craigr
  9. Sunman... Ain't you special.. Thanks for the response. I obviously don't agree with you, but hey like you said it's your 'opinion'. It's obvious that we have different views on things. If you were harsh just to 'rile me', sorry but it didn't. Though it was a nice try. My wife instantly yelling and then crying was my first thought. And still is. She is still upset about it and has mentioned it to me several times today. I have gone over it several times in my head today - rethinking everything. I wouldn't have gone back and left her by the side of the road out in the country. It was a DOG, my wife isn't and her feelings come first - even over mine. The post earlier by ??? about the dog attacking me - If I was on foot and the dog ran at us, I would have pulled my pistol and killed it rather than get mauled. So using THAT comparison I don't feel quite as bad. It wasn't like I was being inattentive and all of a sudden he was in front of me. I slowed way down and moved farther to the right of the road - giving him way. I honestly thought he was going to just run along side and bark, like they have always done in the past. When he jumped at the bike with his mouth open, it was too late to do anything. Hell I didn't even have time to get my foot off the footpeg. I was mostly in shock / disbelief what happened for a mile or two until we stopped to check the bike out at the closest intersection. I appreciate all of the comments - good and bad. I just needed to vent to someone. craigr
  10. Thanks folks. craigr
  11. Today was WONDERFUL day for the most part. We went for a nice lunch with another couple then the 4 of use went for a nice ride out in the country. Perfect weather! As we came down a road, there was a dog in the street as in ready to chase us. I slowed to about 40ish. I figured he would hang off to the side and run along side like they always do. - WRONG!!! The darn dog jumped at my bike and caught my Left Kurykan footpeg and my heel in the head. I heard the yelp and felt my heal on his head. I was scared he was going to get under the bike. If he did, I think we would have gone down, as he had to weigh 60ish lbs. The couple behind us said that he had to have had his neck broken. We didn't stop, (should we have?). I don't know what we could've done other than watch him die. My wife was VERY upset and I didn't want to make matters worse. I was really kinda in shock about the whole thing. We are BIG dog lovers. I just can't believe that he jumped at the bike. I've never had one do that before. They always stand off to the side and just run alongside and bark. I'm somewhat angry that the owners let the dog run free when they probably knew that he liked to chase! I've gone over it in my head all day, and I honestly believe there is nothing I could've done to avoid it, other than riding a different road. I'm sure this makes me sound like a puss, but it is upsetting. craigr
  12. We LOVE ours! They make the Hotel experience much nicer. We also bought the 3 bag set. If you do end up getting some, make sure you buy the ones made for YOUR bike / bags. They fit perfect without the rinkling, etc.... craigr
  13. It's been quite a while, but I'd swear that we bought mine at Walmart. craigr
  14. We were talking with friends today about our West Coast trip and my wife realized that between this trip and the one to the East coast last summer, we covered 38 States so far with this bike - in less than one year!! I kind of wish we would have thought of it earlier in the year so we could have squeezed in a couple more. It looks like we are going to have to settle for 48 states. I talked with a couple in Washington that rode to Alaska. They told me that it there aren't many paved roads up there and the main hwy up isn't too good. I just don't want to deal with the roads and I don't want to just ride up there and not be able to cruise around. Oh well, 48 states is still something to brag about. We just rolled over the 20k on the bike as we were coming into town from this trip. - Is the bike broke in yet? 20k on a 2007, does that make it a high mileage bike? craigr
  15. Simply for curiosity.... Why blank out the plates? craigr
  16. What is the fastest you have pulled your Trailer with your bike? Next question...... What is the fastest SAFE speed to pull a trailer with a bike? craigr
  17. I saw this done on an off-road vehicle on TV waaaay up in Alaska. They had a flat with no air compressor or something like that and they lit the tire off and BOOM!!! The tire jumped off the ground and was seated!!! Pretty cool, but I would sure be hesitant to do it. craigr
  18. We spent 3k on a california king approx 3 years ago and still LOVE it. The only drawback is that when you go to a Hotel, the beds REALLY aren't comfortable any longer. craigr
  19. I vaguley remember an old Mazda commercial for the Rotary Engines that went something along the lines of 'Regular engines go boing boing boing, our Rotary's go hmmmmmm' I am surprised by all of the positive feedback of the Mazdas! I really always thought they were kinda a 'Kia' type car - a 'throw-away'. Thanks for all of the replies. craigr
  20. You replace the whole thing - Bulb & wire come as a set. craigr
  21. I originally caught the part that it was 'zoom zoom' upside down, but.... I had read in my mind 'on THE roof' (like on the roof of the house) - not on 'IT's' roof' - which is why I didn't understand the humor. I JUST NOW re-read the joke Oops. craigr
  22. Are these tough to come by? We ordered one last Fall & I never got around to putting it on. We ended up buying a Bushtec Trailer, so I figured why would I need the rack? Plus, I kinda like the look of the trunk better without it. I MAY end up selling mine. If they are hard to come by, hopefully I can get what I paid for it. craigr
  23. We just returned from blowing thru there on I-40. I am jealous of you. We returned this past Saturday and if I had the Vacation time left, I could turn around and head back to NM!! We went from Omaha, NE to the Washington/Canada border down to the Ca/Mexio border then back to Ok city & Home. - So we saw A LOT of states. We BOTH said that by far, NM was the prettiest!! We plan to take a trip back to NM just to spend a week there site seeing. Take LOTS of pics. Ours came out gorgeous, the colors were very vivid and came thru on the pics fine. Make sure you post some pics and how the trip was. AND, of course BE SAFE!! craigr
  24. It's over my head.... What ever happened to Mazdas having the Rotary Engines? craigr
  25. I know this isn't M/C related, but.... A Co-worker is looking at a little Mazda 3 (car) and neither of us know ANYTHING about Mazdas - she just likes the looks. Have any of you had any experiences good or bad, with the newer ones? I know they used to have the Rotary engines, but this one has a 4 cylinder. She is looking at the Mazda or the Toyota Corolla. Any info would be appreciated. craigr
