That's what got me thinking about it. My last bike had the Corbin and no sweating at all. craigr

The problem with Sheepskin is that my backside fits perfect into the pocket of the seat. The sheepskin would raise me out of that pocket, same for the beads. And, as I said before, I just don't want the hassle. I had one on a bike back in the 70s and didn't like having to stoe it away when not sitting on it. craigr

During our all day rides on hot days, my backside sweats quite a bit. I am convinced that it is from the Vinyl on the seat. My Back also sweats alot where the backrest rides. I do not sweat in my Truck which has Leather seats. So, I am thinking about having my seats on the bike redone in Leather. Has anyone here done this? Do you think it would help? I know I could use beads or Sheepskin, I just don't want the hassle. craigr

Funny, that styling looks like Hondas new Automatic in this the latest 'Cruiser' Mag. craigr

I don't have my list here in front of me, but I got the info out of the book. I also had them look at a couple of other things and check the brakes & they did replace the rear brakes. I changed the oil & filter myself. I know I could've done some of the stuff myself, but to maintain the warranty, I wanted it documented. The reason I overshot by 4k miles, is we were on the road & I figured I would just wait until I got back. - I know, I could have had it done early, I just didn't. I honestly believe these guys are honest, they always have been honest in the past. I feel like I got my money's worth. Though I wish it had been cheaper of course. craigr

Well Said! My bike is usually 'babied' - (Almost). Actually, I thought this same thing on the way to work this morning. I bought a Yamaha because, among other reasons, I am sooo happy with my 115hp outboard Yamaha and the quality of that motor. Metrics have always had the reputation of 'running forever' and 'being almost bullet proof'. I took the bike in for MAINTENANCE, not repair. Still,... for $800, I wish I could tell the difference in how she runs. BUT, I CAN tell the difference in how the kickstand works. It moves MUCH more freely now! craigr

You know, when I was in my teens and early twenties, I would tackle ANYTHING. I got myself into trouble more than one time. But hey, that's how I learned. I did everthing from engine swaps on cagers to full strip down restoration on MC's. I don't even paint anymore. My old bikes, I didn't have them very long before I was stripping them down and doing a custom paint job on them, adding / changing lighting, etc... For some reason, on this NEW Venture, I hesitate. Granted, I will not remove the front end or rear tire - my health won't let me handle the weight. But the rest of it, I have no excuse, other than intimidated and I can afford to pay to have it fixed right the first time.

Something else I wanted to run past you folks, that I forgot to mention in my original post - While I was standing at the counter waiting to go over the invoice & pay, the guy was on the phone with someone saying 'you can change it yourself, just use Motorcycle oil and keep your receipts for the oil & filter'. So does this mean I will have problems if I need warranty work on my engine - I didn't keep the reciepts. craigr

I overshot my 16k mile service on my 07 Venture by 4k. So, I took it in Tues. I got it back Wed, $800 poorer. I was disappointed to hear that the carbs were 'barely out of balance'. I had them save the old plugs so I could see them - they looked great! Hardly any wear at all, and the color looked right. I ended up keeping them as a spare, just in case a new one goes bad. I was hoping that the bike would run like a crotch rocket, since I haven't had it tuned in 10k - nope, she runs about the same. I could tell they had the fairing off and my handlebars had to be re-adjusted for me. Oh well, at least they said that she looks great and everything is in 'ship shape'. craigr

Something to think about... 10 years ago or so, I had one of those diamond plate tool boxes in the back of my pu truck to carry tools, etc.. Anyhow, after a while, the aluminum started to oxidize some and got 'black' dust all over everything. I ended up getting rid of the truck, but if I had another one of those boxes, I would glue carpeting over every surface in the box - not just the floor. craigr

I rode my first Trike yesterday....
craigatcsi replied to craigatcsi's topic in Trike & Sidecar Talk
The Bike was a HD & the Kit was a Hannigan, if I remember right. He did say that he thinks the Goldwing handles & rides better and even offered to let us take it out. But I was so turned off by the HD, I declined. If / when I HAVE to, I'm sure I will return to his place and take him up on the offer to take the Goldwing for a ride. If I don't like it either, I guess I'll go buy an old CJ-7 and take the doors & top off. craigr- 10 replies

I have bad hips, so my Venture is getting pretty tough, especially at intersections 2up. So, I have been thinking of going the trike way. I rode my first Trike yesterday, finally, after looking at them and asking about them for a year or so. First off, I stopped at one of the local HD dealers to look at their 'from the factory' trikes - they didn't have one. The salesman told me they sell them as fast as they come in. So, I went to a local shop that sells & installs several Trike kits. The guy was wonderfully helpful! He let me test drive one and said to take it for a half hour or so. 'Enjoy yourself'. So, my wife & I climbed on and took it down the street heading for the Interstate. - I didn't get that far. I just didn't feel very stable with the steering. My wife said that she felt like she was being thrown side to side. It was me trying to get used to the handling - NO Leaning and turning with the handlebars. The trike rode wonderful and I'm sure that one gets used to the handling, but for the 15 minutes I was on it, I didn't care for it. I only got the trike up to about 45ish, I didn't feel comfortable enough to go faster. So, I told the guy thanks for his time and letting me try one, but I will wait until I absolutely HAVE to have to either give up riding or get a trike. The guy said he understood, but assured me that if I took the bike for a longer ride, I would get comfortable with it. I just don't think I am ready to give up on my leaning yet. It's just my opinion, I am in no way meaning to bash trikes. They just aren't for me, (yet). craigr

After reading all of these posts, I think what Jimbo5 said might be more the direction they go. - A 'Sport Tourer'. Like he said, why waste all of that power the VMax has, de-tuning it for a 'Cruiser'. I have always liked the 'potato, potato' sound and missed it coming from a Vulcan Classic 1500 to my 07 Venture. That was probably the biggest thing that kept me from the Venture for a while. Now, I LOVE my Venture so much, the 'potato potato' isn't as important. I just joke that this bike sounds like 'a sewing machine'. (Just ordered Bubs last night). Choppers aren't that big of a deal anymore, I wonder if Honda missed the boat on their 'Fury'. I would be surprised if any of the other Metrics came out with one. Honda has a couple of 'Sport Tourers' and Kawasaki has the Concourse. I have been wondering if the Sport Tourers were the next wave of the future, as Everyone seems to have cruisers - so they aren't 'special' anymore, though they are sooo comfortable. AND the kids on the 'crotch rockets' are getting older. Just something to think about, craigr

Who makes the best quality slip-ons?
craigatcsi replied to DOHCGT's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
GREAT!!! I just finished ordering my Bubs, (5 mins ago), and NOW I run across this thread that says they are CRAP!! Oh well, add me to the list of 'wait and see'. craigr -
Funny thing, I have never seen another Blue / Black here in Omaha. And, on our recent trip to the West Coast & back, (6500 miles), we never saw ONE Venture!!! This really surprised us.

I AGREE 100%!! AND, I didn't know the morning groan of the shock was a known problem. I thought it was just my bike.

My daughter-in-law took a pic of my bike and photo shopped it. My bike is pretty much stock, but I think the pic looks great. What do you think? craigr

MOST of us realize that no one is going to admit that they are riding a 'piece of crap'. We may bash them after we sold them, but unless we are having constant problems with a machine, we tell everyone that they are great. I know that some will argue with this point, but I'll stick with what I see. craigr

I bought a shortened windshield from Yamaha and like it. But, I wonder if I might like even shorter better. I still have my stock windshield, but can't ever see going back to it. Is it worth anything? If not, maybe I should 'play' with cutting it down. I am wondering what a less round top would be like, almost straight across the top with barely rounded corners. craigr

It it's metal, you CAN weld it. - But, make sure you fill it with water pretty close to where the hole is. Then you can braise it shut. Then repaint the tank. - This is how I did it in the 'old days' on a wrecked bike. Or, I'm sure they have some kind of putty these days that is made for such a thing. Then you wouldn't have to repaint the tank. craigr

New Avons, have questions.
craigatcsi replied to Busta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
'Scuff them up' ? I bought new Avons just before our 5600 mile trip and didn't 'scuff them up'. I'm guessing that they are 'scuffed up' by now though. I have never heard of 'scuffing up' tires when they are new. How is this done? craigr -
That sounds a little high doesn't it?
