  1. While at a Dealer a couple of w/e's ago, I saw a G/W with an aux fuel tank on his reciever hitch. It was a home-made job welded aluminum box that holds 2 or 3 gallons. He said when he gets down to 1/4 tank, he flips a switch and an electric fuel pump moves the fuel from the aux tank to his main tank. He said it takes about 15 minutes and it does this while going down the road. Well this got me thinking about my bike and my limited range due to fuel mileage. Our bikes are so darned comfortable, our bodies are seldom ready to stop as often as our fuel tanks are. When we take long trips, we usually take our trailer. So, hanging an aux tank off the reciever hitch isn't an option. But, putting an aux tank in front of the trailer, like some do a cooler would work. I could then run a fuel line up the tounge to the bike. The only thing I can figure out is the connection between the trailer and the bike. Would a simple rubber gas line hold up to all of the movement? Or would I need something 'fancier' or more commercially made? Any ideas would be appreciated. craigr
  2. I was at a local Dealer this past Saturday for a 'show and shine'. My 07 wasn't entered, I just went to look and for the free Hot dogs. Anyway, while in the parking lot at my bike, a couple guys with older Suzuki 750s commented on my shirt that had the 'Tail of the Dragon' logo on the back & asked if I had run the dragon. I said that I had last summer and that it is alot of fun. I also said that some people on here and others I have talked to have told me of other roads in that area that have even more twisties. We went on talking about the roads down there and I told them that after a few hours, I had to find an Interstate for some straight roads, so I could cover some distances. And that being from Nebraska, I'm not used to curves all day long. Then he said it.....'Well that big bike of yours isn't made to handle curves like that'. Well that did it!! I got all defensive and told him about while doing the dragon there was a crotch rocket we were following that wouldn't get out of my way, we had to pull over to give him time to get waaay ahead of us so we could play. (Of course, the crotch rocket HAD to be a novice rider, but I didn't tell them that). And how I could smell my front brakes, I was riding my bike so hard! In my younger days, I would've challenged them to a road race Of course this ended the conversation. They casually went back to talking amongst themselves. Probably thinking I was full of 'IT'. My wife just stood there grinning at me like 'you old fool'. As I look back, It was like they were calling one of my kids ugly. I guess I have finally become attached to this machine. craigr
  3. The look and from your description, sound great. Though mine haven't busted, yet, Please add me to the list. craigr
  4. He bought an absolutely beautiful bike! I love that color combination! AND, I've heard that the 07's were the best year of the 2nd Gens. AND in the 07s, I've heard that the Blue / Black were the best models. That's just what I've heard. craigr :)
  5. I put my BUBs on Saturday morning and took the bike across town. I noticed a noticable difference in power on the interstate. I could actually cruise in OD going up a slight grade 2 up!! AND I could even accelerate enough to pass a car! This has NEVER happened on my bike. I knew we were going for a day long ride the following day, so was curious about the mileage difference. We rode 200ish miles, most speeds 45ish to 55ish, we got 46mpg!! - I have NEVER gotten that high of gas mileage here in the midwest. In the past when we rode those speeds all day, we got around 37 to 38ish if we were lucky. That was only one tank that I checked the mileage on, so I am anxious to run a couple more tanks thru to check those when the weather allows. I hope they are as good as they appear. craigr (Oh, and my wife says she LOVES the sound).
  6. Don, I have never met you, but since first reading of you cancer, have thought of you often. I am sorry to hear about your vision going, I have VERY bad eye sight, but corrected. I cannot imagine going thru loosing it all together. I will continue to pray for you and yours. It's obvious that you have many people on this board that care about you. Hang in there as best you can. craigr
  7. Very Purdy!! I really like the color combo! I'll bet she looks even better out in the bright sunlight. craigr
  8. Well dog-gone-it!! We should've gotten together! We live too close to never ride together. Next time we plan a ride, I am going to try to reach out to you. craigr
  9. We had a beautiful ride today from Omaha, NE wandering the Loess Hills to Onawa, IA for lunch then wandering the Loess Hills back to Council Bluffs. 200ish Miles in all. Best part was that we had a new couple on their bike. They have never taken ANY kind of trip other than back and forth to work and around their nieborhood! He was uncomfortable with speed so we kept it at 55ish max. Usually aound 45 to 50ish on the back highways. The corn was on its way out, the soybeans were turning colors, the trees were just starting to turn colors. The weather was perfect, mostly sunny with just a little bit of breeze. We were gone from 1100 to 1800. The new couple were on a 750cc Honda Shadow, but they are smaller in stature so it fit them, but she complained about her backside hurting alot. At the end of the ride, my wife told her to climb on the back of our Venture. She told her husband that she wasn't getting off the bike! They both said that they want to get a bigger bike. I tried to explain the differences in the two styles of bikes and that they do have a good bike, they just need a more comfortable seat. But maybe they just WANT a bigger bike if they are going ride with bigger bikes. We are looking forward to the upcoming weeks as fall arrives and the leaves get more vibrant. craigr
  10. I've never been bit by anything higher than 120v, hope I never do. When working around the house, half the time, I don't kill the breaker to swap an outlet. Dumb, I know, but it doesn't bother me that much. It just makes me let go quick. An old electrician told me years ago that different people have different tolerances for electricity. 120v will kill some people. He said he knew an electrician that could stand in front of you holding 220v in his hands and talk to you! - I always thought this was a bit of a story, but you never know. Since 120v doesn't bother me that much, I always figured it was plausible. craigr
  11. So, say this is the last year of the 2nd Gens. - Typically, how long will new parts be available? craigr
  12. THIS is why I alway feel uncomfortable riding in any bike rallies or charity runs, etc... I do a couple of them a year, but always stretch out the pack, trying to stay the #%$#$ away from people I don't know. I hate it when someone wants to ride along side me. When we ride with friends, we always stretch out several car lengths between us. We meet at intersections only, just to check if everything is alright, potty breaks, butt breaks, gas, etc... craigr
  13. I don't think I tried it that way, I thought just cycling thru the Audio Button was the best I could do. I'll give that a try. Thanks, craigr
  14. That seat is pretty Cool!! craigr
  15. Tell you son thanks from me. I wish I could be there instead of him. I tried twice to get into the military straight out of HS in 79, but couldn't due to health reasons. I have always envied and admired our military. My son-in-law is heading over to the Middle East for his 4th tour next summer. My nephew is going with him for his 3rd trip over. And, Show your son these posts, so he can see how much he is appreciated!! craigr
  16. I would LOVE to be able to just turn mine off completely!!! I don't use it, and doubt I ever will. I have the squelch turned Waaaay up and on channel 7 or such, just so it doesn't come in over my regular radio, but sometimes around trucks, it will suddly 'belch' like someone keying a mike or something and it startles the bejeses out of me!! craigr
  17. That REALLY looks nice!! I noticed in your video, that your brake light seems to flash, is it just the camera? Also, it sounds like your engine has a 'lug' to it kinda like a V-Twin. How'd you do that? craigr
  18. I was worried about backing up with the trailer on my bike, but it ended up being just like backing my boat with the truck. Of course I have mamma helping as reverse. But, that being said, if I can park where I won't have to backup when leaving, I do - Just like when towing the boat with the truck. The only thing I had to really get used to on the bike was remembering that I was pulling a trailer, (Bushtec Roadmaster). On our first REAL trip with it, I finally gave up and adjusted my mirrors so I could just barely see the corners of it - just to remind me it was there! craigr
  19. WOW!! Of all of the topics on a MOTORCYCLE Board - Cornbread? I think it is great that this topic has gotten soooo much attention. I like the mention of deer chili & corn bread. I think I will casually mention it to my wife and hopefully she will make it for me. Keep it up folks, this is great. craigr
  20. I know I've mentioned it on here before, but I'll mention it again... When we took our East coast trip from Omaha last summer, the farther east we went, the better the gas mileage. On the way home, the closer to Omaha we went the worse the gas mileage. Now for this year's trip to the West coast, the same thing happened. The farther West we went, the better the gas mileage. The closer we got to home, the mileage went down again. It must be different mixtures of the gas for different areas of the country. craigr
  21. Where do I find the 'Chrome O ring clamp'? craigr
  22. Can you use Plexas or something similar to get away from the fogging? I remember when I used to ride back and forth to work 365, winter being cold and snowy, I used to have problems with my full face helmet fogging up when slow to stopped. I found something to put on the inside of the shield and it kept it clear. But for the life of my I can't remember what it was - (20 years ago). I have to believe they make something for this nowadays. craigr
  23. I recently got mine back from the $800 - 16k service, though I stretched mine to 20k. I posted that I couldn't tell much difference. Funny, that you mention the steering head. - As I was manuvering mine in and around the garage and thru the grass, I think I DO notice a difference in the steering. But admittedly, maybe I am LOOKING for a difference, since I paid so much for the service craigr
  24. I haven't tried it yet, but I am hoping that the 'S' is just double sided tape and can be removed. I guess I could Contact Scorpion and ask. craigr
  25. My wife and I got these - http://shopping.scorpionusa.com/C55D9C025BA44D11A3713BF0D546303C.asp?cat_id=FBF05AC4DB8843C1B0FF76893F5540D5&pcs_key=F4C6450651964872B858D79013AFA8B5&retpage=%2FF4BD78EED51D4762989F1184B1165B96%2Easp&nm=Solid+100&spath=&path=Home+%3E+Equipment+%3E+Street+Helmets&sc_id=D077582BA3E84A3DB6A8EF2E56B4E340 They match our Blue / Black 07 Venture. We like the Visor that hides inside the helmet. It keeps it from getting scratched when not used. craigr
