  1. Do any of you know what year Yamaha started painting the 1300 engine? I've seen several pics of Ventures without the Black painted engine, but mine is painted. craigr
  2. Tha't the one we bought, and we are very happy with it. It's great for the small things that kept getting lost in the clutter of our Trunk. AND, we bought one of those removable bags for our long trips. My wife fills it up while in our hotel room, then just pops it in the trunk just before we leave. Well, this organizer thing on the lid works great to put small things in so we don't have to dig thru the bag. They are kinda pricy, but we get our money's worth out of it. craigr
  3. You folks are soooo lucky to be able to have those quads. - I would love to have one. I can affford one, but in my neiiborhood, the only quads around are stolen or about to be stolen. I thought about a plow for my pickup for next year. craigr
  4. I went to a local dealer here in Omaha, NE this past Saturday and was surprised to see 3 1st Gens. I haven't seen too many period, let alone at a dealer. I didn't talk with any of the Salesmen, (tough to find at this dealer). But, I did look them over some with my father. I know nothing about them, so I couldn't begin to guess what year(s). They definately are different than the 2nd Gens. To me, they remind me of the older Goldwings. - (No offense intended.) My father has never seen one before, but said he kinda liked them. craigr
  5. I bought them new and put them on my Venture. I really liked them at first, but now I'm not to sure. I always hated my stock exhaust. I used to say that my bike sounded like a 'sewing machine'. With the Bubs, it sounded like it had some balls. After riding with them for a season, I am thinking about going back to my stock exhaust for a more 'civilized' sound. The problem is that my wife LOVES the Bubs, especially when I really get on the throttle. craigr
  6. I have a couple of changes I think I am going to make on mine. 1. - I think I will paint each leg a different color, then match each female part of the Adapter with the same color. It will make it just that much easier to match them up quickly. I really don't care how it looks. 2. - Use 'hitch pins' instead of bolts for the legs. Again, it will make it just that much easier / quicker to lock the legs into place. craigr
  7. I have an extra trunk for my 07 Venture. I had thought of cutting a hole in the top, just big enough to allow our Dachsund to pop her head out, then put some upholstry around the hole for comfort. This way she could go for rides with us. She is small enough that I doubt if I would notice the weight. For those of you that DO take your dogs for a ride with you, What do you do with the dog when you stop for meals & Ice Cream? No, I doubt I will ever do this, but it was just a thought. craigr
  8. The milage is prolly my only real gripe about the Venture. But, I have learned to live with it. One thing I did really notice is that the bike REALLY gets thirsty when pushed above that ???mph - I don't remember what that number is, but I'm thinking it was around 70ish. And it gets MUCH worse from there. But most vehicles are like that. This site has several long threads about adjusting the carbs in various was, but I worry about running my bike to lean and causing damage. So, as I said above, I live with it. craigr
  9. If you take your dog along in a trailer, wouldn't your worry that the dog is breathing the exhaust from your bike? Also, having to listen to your pipes the entire time? craigr
  10. I am sooo jealous of you folks for being in the Military! I tried to get into the Nave twice in '79 & '80. I couldn't pass the physical. I have had many friends & relatives either in the Military or have served, and I always LOVE to hear their stories. I always let them know how jealous I have always been. As I'm sure you have heard before, thanks for serving! craigr
  11. I don't think it's fair that he has FOUR bikes and I only have ONE!! He should 'share' his good fortune by giving one to me, (the less fortunate). I choose the Indian. craigr
  12. I have become almost obsessed with this forum. I usually check it at least a couple of times a day. - Is this normal? How often you you folks check for new messages? craigr
  13. I hope and pray that I am NEVER so broke that I can't affford $12 for all of the education, fun & friendship this site has. craigr
  14. I feel your pain. I got hurt on the job years 19 years ago while working for the state. They dicked me around something horrible until I took a friends advice and got a Lawyer. THAT stopped it right away. The state had to retrain me for a job that I CAN do, for a comperable salary. I have now worked my way up in salary to 3x what I was making for the state. - Something I NEVER could have done if I had stayed there. I hope you have a Lawyer. If not get one yesterday!! craigr
  15. A lot of you folks seem to backyard mechanics like I used to be, so... My wifes 01 Nissan Altima's window washer thing is plugged. Someone told me a long time ago that you can't use a bread twisty to clean them anymore, nor a welding tip cleaner, because it will ruin them. So, how does one clean them? Or do I just have to replace it. The one on the passenger side works fine, so I know the pump, etc is okay. craigr
  16. So, for those of you using Peroxide - Does it turn your dog Blonde? craigr
  17. I also bought the Bushtec RoadStar and pulled in on a 6500 mile vacation this past summer. - I had to adjust my mirrors to remind me it was there! I had it up to around 100mph at one point and I still couldn't tell it was there. (I know, NOT Smart). My wife loaded it pretty full and we carried our Full Leathers. I can't say enough about it. To me it was worth every penny. The only down side, is storing the bugger. craigr
  18. Always over the Top. So much so, that if it isn't over the Top, I change it. - Even at someone elses house, at work, etc... If nothing else, it annoys the people that like it behind. As far a the Toilet lid / seat, the rule in MY house has always been put both down. That way EVERYONE has to lift it to use it. craigr
  19. This has been my experience here in the Omaha area as weill. VERY sad. craigr
  20. I kinda like the look - except for no mufflers. It would be neat if the trunk, etc.. could be removed quickly / easily. craigr
  21. How far down the list are you? I need to know when I need to go cash in my Aluminum Cans. craigr
  22. This might get me in trouble with some of you, but... When we go for dinner on our w/e rides, I will drink a beer with my meal. For me, ONE beer doesn't even give me a 'buzz'. I just LOVE the taste of a beer with my w/e meals. I would NEVER think of getting on a bike with even a little bit of a buzz. craigr
  23. Wow! I think I am liking that! I don't NEED one, but I just may want one. That would be GREAT in rush hour traffic. My left arm got pretty sore in rush hour traffic in D.C., L.A. & Vegas - In Vegas rush hour, the clutch handle was too hot to touch for long.. That would have been SWEET to have! craigr
  24. Well, here is my story... To start out, all of our kids are out of the house, just the wife & I so we can afford more toys. So, We went out and bought a nice 55" LCD Flat Screen TV. After about a week later I figured that since I had this killer TV and the kids took their video games with them, I asked which had the best 'driving' game. One that the cars don't corner like they are on rails and handle more realistically. I don't want to play any 'missions' I just want to tear around town stealing cars and running from the cops. They all told me to get the PS3 and latest 'Grand Theft Auto'. So, I headed to the store and spent $300 for the PS3 and another $50 for the game. I got it home and set it all up and started playing and pretty soon, I noticed that my stomach started getting sour and I felt a headache coming on. So I kept playing anyway and pretty soon it got so bad that I just HAD to quit playing. I was so sick, I had to go to bed for the rest of the day. The next day, I felt better and decided to start playing my game again. Sure enough, before long I started getting sick with a headache again. - OH NO!! - It just CAN'T be the game!! Since then, I have discovered that if I eat something before I play, I can play for up to 45min before I have to stop. So, there you have it. I spent $350 for a game that makes me sick!! As far as the game, it is GREAT!! The graphics are great, the cars handle great. I highly recommed it if you are into driving games. (I hope it doesn't make you sick also). craigr
  25. So will a 1500 Wing also 'walk away' from a Venture? craigr
