  1. JB: I have the same Dually lights from Rigid and have them mounted in the same place on my 1st Gen. They are awesome lights and light up the road at night like it is daylight! I have had them for for about three years and will not ride at night without using them. Well worth the money. I get a lot of comments about how bright they are in the daylight so now use them all the time, so oncoming traffic can see me. Every little bit helps to make people aware of me. Jim
  2. I would use a little heat, from a propane torch, on the three screw heads of the stator, as they are secured with Loctite. Then use small vise grips to get the screws started out. Can't help you with the scraped wires, I'm electrically challenged and wouldn't know a good wire from a bad one. Jim
  3. I have a water & electric site at the campground, for the International, and am willing to share it for the week. I am arriving Sunday afternoon and leaving Friday morning. I have a tent, so there will be room for a pop up trailer or another tent. PM me if interested. Jim
  4. You are right, Ben, I meant to say that we actually will arrive an hour earlier, local time, but driving time will still be about four hours. FYI: Address for the Bob Evans: 6102 Cambridge Way, Plainfield, IN 46168, for those that want to put it in their GPS. Exit 66 I-70, turn right off ramp, go to light (1/4 mile) turn right and then immediate right on Cambridge Way. Restaurant on right. Jim
  5. Joe: Talked to Dave Wells @ Maint. Day and he is planning a weekend in Sept. if my memory is correct. Are you having a weekend at your campground? Jim
  6. Kevin: Thanks for the two links. I ended up buying the one from Pinwall (where I copied the pic). I am going on a trip next week end and didn't want to leave without the cable as I will need the CB to communicate with the other riders. BTW, The armrests came out great. I used heavy duty style "P" clamps to mount the frame and then took it apart and am going to have them rechromed. Looking around for a cheap chrome shop. I won't need them for the trip next week, so I have time to look for a chrome shop. Jim
  7. Carl: It is the straight cord that has the red, white and black wires on it. It plugs into the amplifier mounted under the AM_FM radio. Jim
  8. Just as the title says, I have a broken wire in the female end of the plug and I can't solder those tiny wires. My eyes aren't good enough to do that anymore. The break is where the wires are soldered into the plug, because by wiggling the plug and holding it the right way I can get the connection to work. Needless to say, riding one handed is not recommended! Does any one have a spare cable they will sell me? The cable is the one with the red, white and black wires connected to it. Thanks Jim
  9. OMG! EEEEEWWWW!!!! Wayne must be bored at work today. But, at least now I know that the hair that is disappearing from the top of my head is now appearing in my nose. Jim
  10. Joe: I can't make this one. I will be out of town until the 5th. I have already committed to the trip and can't change my plans. Jim
  11. Jeff: Glad you had a great weekend. Please keep that white stuff up in the north country. I finally have seen the green grass in my yard for the first time since early December. I almost forgot what real grass looked like. Jim
  12. Be very careful about turning the valve, especially if it has not been used in a while. The plastic can become very brittle due to age and if you use too much force, you may snap off the knob. Work the valve back and forth very gently until it moves freely. In some instances you may have to drain the tank and dis-assemble the valve first. Don't ask me how I know. I now leave the valve in the reserve position all the time and refuel based om MPG. Jim
  13. Joe: Still have snow here and going into the teen's at night. My bike is still covered in the garage. Maybe two or three weeks before the road salt is gone. Dave: Mid June sounds good for a campout. PM me when you have the details. Jim
  14. Remember that you will only have power to the pump for a few seconds. If the bike does not start the power to the pump will shut off due to sensor not detecting spark when engine fails to start. This is a safety feature to prevent pump from pumping fuel out of the carbs. Jim
  15. Go to post number 2 above and click on the highlighted URL, then go to post number 2 when the window opens. It shows a how-to URL and a couple of places to buy the points. Jim
  16. I will need electric, also, for my A/C and/or fan or heater. Depends on the weather. 30 Amp
  17. The twist???......Wasn't that chocolate and vanilla in the same cone? We ARE talking about ice cream here, right?! I "smoked" thru most of the 60's and don't remember any twist. Jim
  18. Sheila and I are sad to hear of the passing of Shah. Our prayers go out to you and your family. Jim
  19. Kevin: I use the Rigid Industries Dually off road lights. 10 watts each and 1500 Lumens. About $150 to $175 per pair. They have a 10 degree spot pattern. Model number 20221. They work great and I get comments all the time about how bright they are. You have to keep them aimed down in order to eliminate glare for oncoming traffic. I have one pointed at the right shoulder for deer and the other aimed straight down the road. I have a Silverstar in my 89 VR and it looks like a candle compared to the Rigid units. Jim
  20. I rode my 89 VR with a fully loaded trailer from Western NY to Guntersville AL for the Rally last summer and averaged 38/39 MPG. I think that was pretty good for my old bike. Jim
  21. That looks great, Jeff. What is your Paypal address, so I can order one!!!!
  22. Heartbeat has a classified ad for making keys. I sent him the code off my ignition and he made me three keys and they all work perfectly. He can even get the original Yama shaped key, I think. Look in classifieds section. Also quick service. Jim
  23. Bill: Tried to send you a PM but it said your inbox was full. Let me know when it is empty, so I can re-send it. Thanks Jim
  24. I used mine last summer and it is accepted in state parks here in NY, but you must check each park as some do and some do not honor it. Not sure why. Also used it in PA. I generally saved 50% off the going rate and a couple of places only charged me $5.00 but no water or elec, for a tent site. Jim
  25. Check out "www.motocampers.com" It's a motorcycle camping forum similar to this forum, only dedicated to camping. I have met and camped with a group of them and they are a great bunch of seasoned campers. Lots of information on motorcycle camping and lots of reviews of all kinds of equipment for camping. Well worth taking a look. Jim
