Jay: The new ones have auto level control that controls the volume based on the background noise around you. If you go from a noisy restaurant and sit in your car the volume will go down because of the quieter area inside the vehicle and vice versa when going from a quiet area to a noisy environment. Also, there is a television wireless connection for watching TV, but I don't know the details. Jim

John: There is a VA clinic in Mansfield, OH and their phone number is 419-529-4602. Give them a call and ask for the hearing aid (Audiology) dept. and ask them if they would take them. Jim

John: The VA may take them back and use them for temporary units when a veterans' units need to be repaired. The VA usually sends the units to a Denver company that repairs all of the HA's now being used by the VA. Those units are now obsolete and have been replaced with more modern units. I have a new set of units and they are connected to each other wirelessly so the volume can be changed on both units at the same time. Also they can be connected to an iPhone with the proper app. They are also rechargeable, so no batteries to change every day. First pic is HA unit and second is installed in charger base. Also, each set of HA's are set by computer for each person's range of hearing loss. Jim

Tom: A two hour ride for me IS a short ride. Your idea of a short ride is different than mine, obviously. I didn't say that anyone has to go there. I was just putting it out there to inform the members that it was an event that was happening in the area and may be something that someone may have an interest in attending for an afternoon, for nostalgia reasons. It's not an event that is available each year, and I doubt that the original attendees will be around for the 100th anniversary event for Woodstock. Maybe you should add it to the "list of things to see and do in the area", if someone doesn't want to take the daily structured rides.

John: I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your father. My condolences to you and your family. Another hero from the "Greatest Generation" has passed. Jim

Thanks for the info, Carl. Additional costs are the same in New York and, no, not the same as the Nexus card. They are two different things. Jim

I read an article in our local newspaper today about this anticipated festival in Watkins Glen, NY, just a short ride from our Rally site. According to the newspaper account, all of the necessary permits are not yet approved, but the original founder of the festival, Howard Lang said the process is ongoing. A location and ticket prices are not yet announced but will be released soon. For some of us this may be our chance to re-create those "hazy" days of music, love and weed! Jim

In the US there is a new requirement for a new Real ID drivers license that takes effect in a few weeks, for air travel, border crossings, etc.. I have discovered that an Enhanced Drivers License is an accepted replacement for this Real ID and since I already have the enhanced license I don't have to go thru the process of getting a new drivers license(or the expense). But one thing I did find out is that Canada is now issuing enhanced licenses in Ontario, Quebec, BC, and Manitoba for travel to the US, per our Dept of Homeland Security. My question to my Canadian friends is - Is this license available there and is it cheaper than a passport? Inquiring minds want to know and thought this might inform someone wanting to attend our rallies here in the states, that there may be a faster or cheaper method than a passport. I have used my EDL to cross from Ontario back to the US and it has worked well, only a 30 second stop at the customs booth. Jim

I think you all have missed it. That is really a little green man from Mars and is dressed in all black and is getting ready to steal the bike and ride away into the sunset! He's headed to New Mexico to meet his friends out in the desert. And, no, I haven't been smoking anything but might admit to a little "Apple Pie" while watching football today. Jim

If the reserve knob hasn't been moved (turned) in a while you should gently work it back and forth and slowly turn it to the position you want. The valve is made of plastic and is probably very brittle with age and will shatter very easily. The valve on my bike was stuck and I had to work it back and forth many, many times until it finally turned all the the way. As Jeff said above, I now leave it on reserve all the time and use the gauge and mileage to keep track of my fuel. Jim

GM all. Gotta tire dilema
Jayceesfolly replied to JimboSlice's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have an 89 with a Dunlop E3 and I measured the clearance on the tire from the swingarm, back a few months ago, and if I remember correctly there was 7/16's of an inch clearance between the sidewall of the tire and the swingarm. The measurement was taken with the bike on the center stand so tire flex was not considered here. I posted this in another thread from a few months ago but do not remember which thread. -
1989 Gas MPG
Jayceesfolly replied to uhfradarwill's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have an 89 Royale and went for a ride today of 106 miles and got 43 MPG. Mostly country roads at 45 to 62 MPH, with the last 15 miles at expressway speeds of 70 MPH. I routinely get in the low 40's riding the local freeways at 65+ MPH. Riding all country roads (45 to 60 MPH), I can get 50 MPG. I also have the shim kit installed from Earl. Jim -
Ben: I had two stents put in in 2001 thru the groin and was told to wait two weeks. Haven't had a problem since. I was told that the incision healing was more important than the stents. My comments are the same as Clive's note above. Jim

Don: I was planning on going but my wife has an eye surgery scheduled for Friday, the 20th. Unfortunately, we didn't have a choice of the date. I will have to chauffeur her around for the next two weeks because she will be unable to drive. I hope to be there next year. Jim

Side stand.
Jayceesfolly replied to Air Ready Auto's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
There is a modification that can be done to eliminate this problem. Past member Dingy designed it, Very simple and cheap. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ad.php?t=48342 Jim Don will need to restore the photos. -
Larry: Sorry to hear of the passing of your beloved pet. My condolences. I, too, have suffered the loss of our pet on Valentines Day in February. Our Yorkie was taken by a coyote from our fenced in yard and carried off to the woods behind our home, and killed. My wife and I are awaiting the day that we see our Amber Rose on the Rainbow Bridge. Here are a couple of forums that talk about the Austone tire. Interesting reading. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touring-models/697021-175r16-car-tire-for-the-07-ultra-8.html http://mcdarksiders.forumotion.com/t4333p25-175r16-austone-taxi-tire Jim

FYI...a Dunlop E3 rear tire (MU90B16 Bias Ply) is 25.72 inches in diameter and 5.57 inches wide @40 PSI per Dunlop specs on their website. The nut on the swingarm is actually closer to the tire than the driveshaft housing. I did a rough measurement and the nut is .375" from the tire and the driveshaft housing is .437". NOTE: this is with the bike on the centerstand and 38 PSI in the tire. If the bike is on the road surface, the additional weight of bike and rider may affect tire width and of course the tire bulge may vary by type and brand of tire. I got the measurements from inserting pieces of steel in different thicknesses between the tire and swingarm nut, and tire and drive shaft housing. I did not take a great deal of time to do this, so the measurements should be taken as approximate. Too cold in my garage to lay on the floor for precise measurements. .

Let me preface this by saying I don't own a truck just a SUV and a big Buick (don't really need a truck). Why buy a new truck when you could buy a midsize sedan with twice the gas mileage or better and pay for it from the dollars saved on the gas money? Does the company require you to drive a truck or requires you to carry large equipment in it? Just use the sedan for work and park it on the weekends and use the truck and extend it's life. Just curious, as I don't have any experience with pickups, so really can't add anything to this discussion. I am just trying to get thru this cold winter night, browsing the Forum. OK, back to my corner. Jim

Glad to see you back, Steve. That is a nice looking bike and a great deal! Jim
