If I can't see my new invisible bike............how do I know I got the color I ordered?
-
Hi: As Bongo Bob said, I live in Irondequoit and I have a left fairing I will give you for free. I have other panel parts that might be repairable also. The fairing is red and will not match your color scheme, but it is in very good shape. I will PM you my phone numbers so you can call me. I will be available all day tomorrow (Sunday) if you want to pick it up and look at the other panels I have. Jim

Your keys are in the washing machine, where one of our esteemed member keeps his cell phones.

We will have the cruise , rain or shine. If it rains, everyone can cage it. We have two screen houses to keep every one dry for the dinner. Jim

Save the date.........August 6th 2011.......for a cruise on Lake Ontario and the Genesee River. Sheila & I are hosting a M & E in August. I wanted to buy a party barge, but my wife said something about finding me floating in Lake Ontario, ............face down! So, I decided to do the next best thing and let someone else do the driving and we can enjoy the scenery. After the cruise we will return to our home for a picnic style dinner and a custom ice cream sundae bar. Yes, Big Tom....there is something for everyone! Build your own banana split!!! :fnd_(16): We have room in our yard for a few tents if you would like to spend the night, and a hot tub and a beach for a swim in the lake. See the details in the Meets & Eats Forum. We hope to see you there!! Jim & Sheila

Is this right?
Jayceesfolly replied to Hfab5's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hfab5: I live in Rochester (Irondequoit) and would be glad to look at your bike for you and see if we can work thru this problem. I will be out of town until Friday morning. I have a '83 and '89 VR that you can ride as a comparison. PM me. Jim -
I understand the urge to ride, we finally have nice weather here in western NY, and it is time to ride. I just decided last week to semi-retire. I am only going to work two days a week. I have two bikes and both are down. The 83 VR has a bad CMU in it, and the 89 VR (that Earl resurrected) is taken apart to be painted. It is going to be Lavender Pearlessence with pinstripping. So, now I will have plenty of time to get both back together and ride them this summer. Jim

Need part numbers for 89 VR

Rocket: Thanks for the part numbers. I will buy a piece of steel and make a couple of brackets as you suggested. Jim -
Need part numbers for 89 VR
Jayceesfolly replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bob: They are a separate part. They are for the 89 VR that I bought. I took the bike apart, to paint the plastic body panels and found the parts are missing. The radio didn't have a very good connection and the display on the face of the radio didn't work when I bought the bike. I was going to replace the radio but found out the plugs were not in securely and when I put the connectors together, the radio now works perfectly. The metal plates hold the plug in the right plane to match the mounted plug on the bottom of the radio. The plugs need to be mounted securely in place to match the plug in the bottom of the radio and cassette deck. Jim -
I need to order the small plates and screws that hold the power plugs in place for the AM-FM radio for my 89 VR. They are screwed into the bottom of the tray where the radio goes on the left side. I tried looking in the parts drawing on Bike Bandit but couldn't find them. Can someone provide me with the part numbers for the two mounting plates and the screws? And are the parts still available from a Yama dealer? The photo is from an '83 but I need the part numbers for a '89 Venture Royale. Thanks for any help. Jim

In the town that I live in (in New York State) the issuing entity puts the last four digits of your drivers license on the mirror tag and that person is the only one allowed to use the tag. The tag can be used in any vehicle that the person is in. The fines are very steep in this town for using a tag that doesn't belong to you. $500 for a first offense and goes up with subsequent tickets. We have a full time meter maid that has the authority to check your identity. My wife has a HC tag and I never use it unless she is in the car with me.

Cruise problem with 89 VR
Jayceesfolly replied to Jayceesfolly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks for the help. I am going to take it apart this weekend and check the wires. I had to work today and it was raining and decided not to tear it apart. Will look at it this weekend, as I am out of town all week. Thanks again. Jim -
I ha d Earl work on my 89 VR over the winter and one of the things I had him change was the switch and clutch lever because the cruise would cut off when I went over a bump in the road. Well, to make a long story short, I went for a ride today and the cruise doesn't work. When I turn the switch on, both the power light and the resume light come on and stay on. I cannot set the cruise. Also, the bike would not start with the bike in gear and the clutch handle in. I had to put the bike in Neutral to start it. I took the switch apart on the clutch handle and cleaned it and lubed it with dielectric grease and it now starts with the bike in gear and clutch in, but the resume light and power light are still on and the cruise does not work. The cruise worked, before I had the clutch handle changed, but would go off when the clutch handle was wiggled. So, I am not sure what to look for. I assume that I have a bad connection somewhere and will have to take the fairing off to look at the wiring. Is there a difference in the switches on the clutch handle, between years, as I had Earl change the switch that I bought off fleabay and now wonder if there is a difference in the switches. Has anyone had this problem before? Any suggestiions would be appreciated. Jim

If anyone is in the Western NY area, Bongobobny and I and our wives are going out to dinner at the Hearth Restaurant on April 16th (Saturday). If you would like to attend, go to the calendar and sign up. Dinner is at 6:00 PM. The restaurant is located in Chaffee, NY on Rt 16 opposite Pioneer Motorsports (one of our sponsors who will be at Freebird's MD) BTW...do you have your order for parts and safety chrome, sent to Chad yet, so he can bring them to the MD?

I put a 1 X 6 board under my bike. I just drive up on the board and stop, then it is very easy to put on the center stand. The board is screwed to the wooden floor so it will not move. Also, air up the rear shock, very important. Jim

I have had four Buicks in the last 10 years and currently own two (Regal and LeSabre). Both have the 3800 engine and I wouldn't drive anything else. (Well, maybe a Cadillac that I have my eye on!). The Regal had the intake gasket replaced when I bought it (by the dealer) and that is the only thing that has been done with either car. This is a common problem with the 3800 engine and should be investigated by you before you purchase the car. Other than that gasket, never had a mechanical problem with either car other than regular maintenance items ie: oil change, tires, etc. The Regal is a '96 and is beginning to show rust this winter due to salt on the roads, but the body has held up well until this winter. I am going to sell the Regal and probably buy that Caddy this year. I have never checked the mileage on the Regal as we only drive it around town and don't care what it gets, but we get about 32 MPG in the LeSabre on the highway and 22 MPG around town. I usually drive the speed limit and am not a leadfoot, so the mileage is probably typical.

Hey Bongobob, by US do you mean me and you? I can get the time off work without a problem. Oh, you were talking about Becky? Do they have beer there????? Do they have ice wine??? That is great news Tom! Bring back lots of photos to show at the WNY Rally. Jim

Could it have been a broken grooved pin?

15.3 secs. Does this mean I am not qualified to operate a two wheeled vehicle and need more training???? It took me about 10 tries to get to 15 sec. At this rate I may be qualified to ride a two wheeler when I am 85 or 90 years old! By then i will be too old to fly a plane!! Jim

Bob: I feel the same way you do, I have never talked to anyone about my service over there in 1967 and 1968. And I probably never will. It's better to keep that buried in the back of your mind. Most people cannot even begin to understand the horrors of war. It's one of those "you have to have been there to understand" things. Jim

In that case I will be there at 4 PM!!!!! Becky and I should be able to finish that by dinner time!!!!
-
Oh Oh, Someone needs to give Bongobob something to do for the next two weeks before he gets out of control!!!!!!
-
Bob: I was going to come down there early on Saturday, so we could tip a few, but now I am concerned that if you get drunk , you will stagger around in a circle because one eye is stronger and brighter than the other one. I guess we will have to sit down and drink! I still have two weeks to go before I can go back to work, so maybe I should come down there for a week or so and keep you out of trouble. I am glad that everything went well for you. BTW, Sheila was bored, so she went shopping about the same time you and Becky did. Strange, isn't it. It must be ESP. She said she was tired of being cooped up after the snowstorm. It has snowed every single day since Jan 1st and we are really tired of it. See you Saturday, Bob! Jim

Where i live in the NE, it's just another storm. Ho hum. We have had 60" so far this month and that is about half what we get for the whole winter, so I think it's going to be a long winter here in NY. Why do people go out in this kind of weather and not be prepared? Doesn't anyone ever listen to the TV or radio anymore?? Duh. They knew about this storm for a week ahead of time. Jim
