  1. I wonder if Big Tom would arm wrestle him for a super banana split!!!
  2. OK, James. I learned the hard way on an old Honda, many, many years ago. I never forgot again. Jim
  3. Thanks, Steve. Too late to read that thread. Already found another one. Thanks anyway. Jim
  4. Is that bear, sitting at the table, at a DQ? The table looks familiar.
  5. James.....did you remember to move the gas lever back to the road position? Been there ...done that!!! DUUUHHHHHH!!!!
  6. I am looking fo a windshield for a 89 VR. I want to cut it down for use in the summer and then put the standard one on in the fall when the weather gets colder. Jim
  7. Sorry to hear Taters is laid up. I hope she recovers quickly. Who's guarding the ice cream now???? You will have to play nurse now. Wish her the best and tell her we are thinking about her. Jim
  8. Yes, Kevin, you are correct. I forgot to mention that. We use it mostly for the icemaker, as the refrig is in a small room next to the patio and is handy for a glass of ice when heading for the pool. We don't have to go upstairs to the kitchen for ice. Jim
  9. Okay, Monty, now you did it!!! Brand names for oil!!!! :icon_lurker::icon_lurker: My normal self (that's ME) says that we use Rotella also. But Myself said I shouldn't start another one of those oil threads. DUH!!! Just make sure that the oil you choose does not have any additives in it that will affect the clutch and is the right viscosity. Jim (and the "other two"!)
  10. Vincent: We have a Sears Kenmore refrig with an icemaker and water spigot in it, and has a filter that is $40.00 plus shipping to replace every 6 months, according to the manual. It is a second refrig (or spare, if you will), so we don't use the ice machine or water but once a day or so, The indicator light on the front turns red when it is time to change the filter and that happens every 6 months, just like clockwork. After talking to an appliance guy, he told me that they are on a timer and that is what turns the light red. It has nothing to do with the amount of water that goes thru the filter. The filters were getting quite expensive, so I found the same filter online for $19.00 plus shipping, and I also only change them when the water flow begins to slow down. Only use half the number of filters that I used to use. Check your manual and see if the filter is on a timer or if it actually monitors the amount of water you use. Jim
  11. If you ask "what oil?" or "what brand tire?", you have to buy the popcorn!!! :icon_lurker::icon_lurker::icon_lurker: Welcome to the nuthouse, this is the best place to find answers and help, on the Internet. This has the best people in the world. Me, myself and I are the only three normal people on this Forum, everyone else will say that they are "normal" but don't believe them. Welcome, enjoy the new ride. Ventures are awesome bikes. Jim
  12. Jeff: I-280 & Rt 2 would work for you. If you are coming in on I-80 on the Turnpike, get off at exit 71 near Toledo and go North on I-280. Get off at exit 7 (Rt 2) and turn right at the end of the ramp on Wheeling St, go a couple of blocks past the hospital and turn right on Rt 2. There is a Timmie Ho's on the left as soon as you go around the corner. Also a Bob Evans about two blocks down on the left. Google "Bob Evans in Oregon, OH" for the location. It is about 210-220 miles from Gary (I-90). You could also get off the Tpk at exit 64 and take I-75 North to exit 199 (Miami St) and turn right off the ramp onto Miami St and follow to a right on Navarre Ave which turns into Rt2. The second option is about 10 miles shorter. That should put you there about 10 AM (assuming you get to Gary about 6 AM). I used to drive a truck in there all the time a few years ago and deliver near the hospital. Route 2 thru OH is a really nice ride. Jim
  13. Thanks for the explanation and help. I will order the resisters and install them when I install a new R/R. I will put them under the fairing because I have to split it to install a new R/R. I have already bypassed the coils in the CMU for the brakes and taillights, as they are already LED's. Thanks again Jim
  14. Congrats Tom and Amy!!! :clap2: Jim
  15. Steamer: Just think .........someday you will be doing this!!! Double posts!!!!! The mind is a terrible thing to waste!!! Hey Tom, couldn't pass this one up. Jim
  16. Tom: It's too late for you! (Scary thought, huh?) Congrats to you and Taters...........and hope you have many more. Jim
  17. There are a couple ways to do this. Buy a tire in the US and have it shipped to a dealer here and then have it put on on a "down day" while on your trip. This may be complicated to arrange though. Not sure if your schedule permits this. Or maybe send to a member here and then have it installed on the end of your trip or on the way home from your trip. And, of course, the most expensive, is to have it installed before your trip and then not have to worry about tires......this is my option because of the peace of mind, of knowing you have good tires on the bike. How much is your safety and peace of mind worth during your trip? A third option is to have it changed at Don's MD in Oberlin. Have it shipped to Don's home (thanks Don....)!!!!!!! Free labor and a great time to be had!!! (Sorry Don...had to put that in here for a little free advertising for MD). I am going to have a new rear tire put on here at home, before going to the International and keep the old tire for a spare. It is only half way thru it's life, but the confidence of having new tires is worth the extra cost (IMHO). Jim
  18. Thanks for all the help. Tim....PM sent. Mike....I have my new TCI from Dingy installed there and a power outlet panel, so no room. Will have to move it to the right side under the CB and cut a hole in the vent ducting to keep it cool. I may remove the "Y" ductwork under the headlight and mount it there. The dash vents are not that important to me, so it would be a good place to mount the unit. I would have to protect it from water and dirt, but that wouldn't be a problem. Mike....I have seen pics of your bike and I have my Dually's mounted there and think it will interfere with the light beam. I am a little leery about exposing it to stones from the road and other debris kicked up by cars, and water, etc.. Greg...thanks for the link. I was going to search Ebay tonight and that has saved me some time.
  19. As the header states, which Shidengen to use on my 89 VR. I still have the original stator and R/R in my 89 and want to switch to a new Shindengen before I go to the International. I have most of the bulbs on my bike transferred to LED's and will do the turn signals in the next week couple of weeks. Have replaced my old driving lights with new LED's by Dually, so I no longer have that heavy draw of 110 watts. The Dually's are less then 15 watts. Also where is the best place to mount it, don't like the current location next to exhaust and rear wheel. Jim
  20. George: Did all those things (no air and no spacer), plus went to 6 1/2" on the oil and still didn't like the ride. So, back to the anti dives and I am happy now. It wasn't the stopping (nose dive)that bothered me, it was the harsh choppy ride over rough road that I didn't like. Small potholes were a real problem and I was worried about hitting a large deep one and damaging a rim or tire. I know your not supposed to hit them but in NY they are a large nuisance because of the lack of road maintenance and impossible to miss all of them. Jim
  21. Jeff: Just read thru this thread and only understood about 25% of what you are doing. (I'm electrically challenged.) My question is......where do you place the two resistors for the turn signals? I understand why they are needed, just need to know where to insert them in the circuits. I want to convert my turn signals to LED's. Thanks for the help. Jim
  22. I have progressives on my 89 VR and I put block off plates on the front forks and did not like the ride. Too hard and choppy. I tried different oil weights (down to 5 weight) and it didn't help. I put the anti dive valves back on and have been happy ever since. The block off plates totally blocked the oil from moving thru the orifice in the bottom valves and as a consequence the oil did not have much of a dampening effect. I gave away the block off plates because they will never go back on the bike. I prefer the anti dive valves because I am getting old and like the smoother ride! Jim
  23. 24. Gary: I'm up for that. How about Sunday......I'm always looking for hard to find parts for a 1st Gen. Jim
  25. It is located directly south of Bradford, PA on the border with NY. Also south of Salamanca NY. Jim
