  1. Kevin: I'll bring my yacht and we can have races in the pond. Jim
  2. Sure.........just don't forget the poles !! Sorry..somebody had to say it...
  3. Wayne: Thanks for the reply. The front rotors on my 89VR are tight and do not float. The rear rotor was also tight when I put a new tire on in July. I think that I have an alignment problem between the caliper and rotor but won't know until the weekend, when I can get it on the lift and remove the wheel. Abdul: I may take you up on your offer. I am finishing your trailer today and will then have the lift free to work on the bike. (see pic). Aaron: I checked the spacer (or washer) and it is in the right place on the axle. This usually is the most common problem with the alignment. I will tear it down this weekend and try to figure out what the problem is. Something is out of alignment, I would guess. I don't want to try to tighten the rivets because of safety reasons, I would rather just replace the rotor. Jim
  4. I was checking rear tire pressure on my 89 VR and noticed the rear brake rotor is loose. Just the outer rotor band itself. The rivets are also quite loose, also. It actually rattles, it is so loose. What causes this and what should I be looking for, when I take the rear wheel off, to correct the problem. Also will need a new rotor to replace it. Anyone got one they want to sell? Thanks Jim
  5. I agree with TX2STURGIS about the "breakover" when the front wheel goes over the top of the ramp. I had the same problem with my ramp on the trailer. I had to modify the bed and end of the ramp to get my 1st Gen to go on my trailer. The exhaust pipes would scrape on the end of the ramp. I would look for a trailer with a lower floor height. Also, you may want to look at a winch to pull bikes up the ramp on a trailer that sits that high. Have you ever tried to push a 1st Gen up a ramp with two flat tires??!!! Jim
  6. Good Luck, Tom. If you need anything, I will be happy to come out and help any way I can. Jim
  7. WHAT !!?? NOW you ask me how you are going to tell Tom that you don't like ice cream!!!! :confused24::confused24:
  8. Tom: Hope everything went well with your surgery today. They DID operate on the right knee......right???? Right, right? Or was it the Left, right?? Whichever, hope it went well and your back to chasing Chrissy soon. Jim
  9. In NY, we use 200 MPH Duct tape......and it's BLACK! We don't use baling wire anymore because the scrap recyclers steal it for the money. Jim
  10. "Organ donor" also comes to mind!!
  11. That was funny, Earl!!! RFLMAO!
  12. I put a HO stator in my 89 VR and at the same time added a Shindgen R/R. I wired the new R/R directly to the battery and bypassed all the wiring in the Venture wiring harness. The output goes directly to the battery and in effect monitors the state of the battery which is what you want. Consistent voltage. I have had this setup for about 6 months now and have had no problems with it. The white wires go directly to the stator and the red and black go to the battery. Very simple hookup. I also have a AGM battery which is three years old and still works great. I also have a digital voltage gauge to monitor the voltage from the battery and it never changes the reading. Always stays steady at 13.7 volts at all RPMs. The stator will also charge at a lower RPM than the standard Yamma one. My stator charges at an idle now. Jim
  13. Great idea, Robin. I can make it on Saturday. Just let me know when and where. Extended weather forecast is low 70's on Sat and sunny. Supposed to be nice all week except for Monday. Jim
  14. I like the splash guards in front of the foot pegs. Nice idea. HEY LARRY (Carbon One) or MARCARL.......Is this something that could be fabricated with a reasonable price? Jim
  15. Is there a valve between the reserve tank and the original tank? Is it in the right position to allow fuel from the original tank to the fuel pump?
  16. That is sometimes caused by a loose or stretched kickstand bolt. This is a well known problem on the First Gens. When you get a new kickstand, do the conversion and never have to worry about a loose or broken bolt or kickstand again. My kick stand is just as tight as the day I did the conversion. The factory installed shoulder bolt has a deep undercut on the end of the threads where the shoulder starts, that can cause the problem of broken or loose bolt condition. If the shoulder bolt loosens, it allows the kickstand to to become loose and sloppy and it allows the bike to lean over too far and eventually it will cause the "ears" to bend and become overstressed due the weight of the bike bearing down on the loose stand. You discovered the result of the "ears" being overstressed and bent out of shape. Once the bolt becomes loose or the bolt is overtightened (and overstressing the weak threads) it is only a matter of time before the bolt or kickstand fails. Jim
  17. Here is the thread for the conversion for the kickstand: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48342 Jim
  18. Gary (Dingy) did a bolt conversion and it works great. Did my bike and it has worked perfectly for months now. I never think about that old and unreliable shoulder bolt any more. I do not have an extra kickstand, but I have an extra bolt which I can send you and directions on how to convert the kick stand. PM me your address. Jim
  19. I use the shop vac with a long extension and then shoot insecticide in the corners and along the eaves and around the doors. Works great and lasts for a couple of months. The insecticide comes in a jug with a spray wand and is easy to use. http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/07/15/49/01/0007154901969_180X180.jpg Jim
  20. Thanks for coming everyone. Sheila and I enjoyed the day with all of you. And, yes, RR was a perfect lady yesterday. She can stop by anytime! It was nice to see Jonesy and Linda again. And Jonesy looked good now that you have had your "tuneup"! Sheila and I are looking forward to doing this next year. Jim
  21. My clutch slave was leaking on my 89 VR and it dripped on the exhaust collector and burned away. The only time that I saw the leak was when the bike cooled off and then it would drip on the floor. I bought a new slave unit rather than rebuild it. No problem since. Jim
  22. JohnT: This is a "just in case" tool if the Guvmint starts to read your mind instead of your e-mails. After all....they can read your e-mails...whose to say that they aren't tracking what you are saying and thinking. I think these "thought protectors" can be painted to match your scoot so you are color coordinated! Mine is chrome plated to match all the chrome on my scoot...... :rotf:
  23. Big Tom: For what it's worth, here is my opinion. I think you should invite whomever you want to a WNY RALLY. It is a once a year event that should be open to everyone. This is about a social event and about supporting the Armstrong family who has shown that they truly have a "family" first attitude. Everyone, who knows the Armstrongs, know they will do everything possible to make your visit to their business a smooth and pleasant affair. I think we should do everything we can to support and help contribute to defraying the costs of the events they host. After all, the events are for our entertainment. We are NOT talking about changing the makeup of VR.ORG.....This is strictly about one weekend function that is in western NY. As far as I am concerned - The more the merrier. And, in this case, the "invitees" have a common background........we all ride scoots whether they are two, three or more wheels. Just the name on the side of the gas tank is different. Jim
  24. Wow, 34 years is a great number, congrats to both of you. I hope you can double that number. I have only made it to 16 years, I can't seem to keep one for very long. My wife said that if I spent as much time with her as I do with my bike, I MIGHT make it to 17!!! I don't think I will ever understand women!? Jim
  25. Time is getting short to sign up for the Rochester, NY Meet & Eat this Saturday. Please sign up on the calendar so I can plan on the food and drink. Thanks Jim
