Just past 30k on mine! BEST INVESTMENT EVER ON A BIKE! You are right about the sticker shock but that was 3 years ago for me and absolutely love mine. By the way, my seat has gotten wet in numerous downpours which really worried me at first! I have seen no ill effects, though, from the abuse!

So good to know since at 40k I am still in love with her!!!

I bought the original trailer and then modified it for my tastes! Some like it, others don't! There are some threads around. One of my favorites!: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39644

Started riding in the late 70's! First thing I noticed was every biker waving at me using the "power" fist sign. Made me feel like I was part of a special group and today it still puts a smile on my face! I usually wave with my right hand since I use the cruise a lot and it is free to wave. When I use the left I have started raising it up. I use to just throw it down and out but have caught myself being rather blase about it so I know raise it high!!

Got back yesterday and had the audacity to email Don and ask him to find my widget that I had left behind. He, being the role model that we all aspire to be, instead of relaxing from all of us yahoo's, goes and (using his words) ..."walked the area again in straight lines, shoulder width paths, from the greenhouse to the door going into the garage and then all the way to the driveway and I never found them...." That is the kind of leader we have!By the way, found the widget this morning. It was in the bag it was suppose to be in. Feel lower than Whale Turd about putting Don through so much!

I have been using the above website to get my gas here locally in Tennessee! If you will click on "map" it will show all the stations currently using ethanol free gas across the USA which may help you plan your trip! I occasionally run ethanol thru the bike when I am somewhere and I need gas and have not suffered for it. I run her almost everyday though and don't go a week without having to refill. I would not like to have her sitting long with a tank of ethanol in her!

Getting bike from Ohio to Florida. ??
1joeranger replied to back in the saddle 2's topic in Watering Hole
Bought mine from a person in Ohio a few years back! I had planned to fly up, rent a car, pick up the bike, and return to Florida over a few days giving me a chance to familiarize myself with the bike! The seller insisted on picking me up, even thought it was a 2 hour ride to the airport! Great people in Ohio! Don't forget, Freebird's MD is 1st weekend in June. Fly up get your bike come to the MD and learn a lot while meeting some great people, and the rest of us to!!! -
I like! Nice job!!! Put me down for a few!!! Thanks for all the work!!!!

New Idea for Air Filters
1joeranger replied to dlhoulton's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
To much oil on the filters! I did the same thing. Had to clean the filters and re-apply a light coat. That should do it. The hoses should not be plugged but routed into the skirt of the bike. They are overflow tubes coming off the top of the carbs. -

I believe those are the overflow tubes from the top of the carbs.? It has been so long since I did the mod it is hard to remember. They route back into the skirt. Look above my filter in the picture. Hope that helps!!!! -

Maybe not, but I like peace of mind and these are easily made from some aluminum soffit material. Most any building supply store will have that. -
Done, voted for the only 2006 RSTD I saw since had no clue what Miller Park was. Good Luck!

machining a VMX rear gear housing
1joeranger replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
VMX is that a motorcycle or is it a brand name? I googled VMX and found VMX Magazine and VMX racing. Little help here please! I have been wondering what to do next. Gone to the dark side and have tinkered with the bike as much as I can so this looks like a great next step! Can't wait to here other opinions and learn more! Thanks!!! -

I am sure there are good reasons to swap out to a VMX (what is that?) gear box but I don't know what they are! Please enlighten me! Nice job by the way!!!! Thanks!! -
I had the same issue when I started trailering. My girlfriend found it noxious. Since my pipe tips were delaminating it was no big deal to change them out. I found some Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle tips. They turned down and my issues went away!
