  1. Sorry everyone! Just got off night shift and was rather tired, still am! Still not a good excuse to be impolite, and I truly apologize for being incosiderate!!!!! My interest in this tread is to find out what is available out there for transporting a bike to Europe. So far, from input from others to this tread, I now have some good websites to explore!
  2. Yhea, I thought I said that earlier!!!!
  3. Yhea thats what I am looking for! I also found this: http://micapeak.com/~marcl/pages/shipbike.html
  4. Anyone transported their bike to Europe? When I get reach again (!!!) I would love to tour Europe on my bike (have no interest in renting someone elses). Just curious if anyone from our organization has done that?!
  5. 6'2" w/ 32" inseem. Ordered mine! Looking forward to better handling and hopefully the raised height of my trailer hitch!
  6. Oh........!? That's what a wompas is! Popped that booble, no offense dmoff1698! Any chance of seeing it on your bike? Never been called a codger! Actually like that!!!
  7. Sorry about the assumption that the wompas might have been yours. I guess when she became your ex and left it became someone elses! Although that really is none of my damn business!!! LOL!!!! Just trying to get this image outta my mind!
  8. V7Goose, do you recommend any particular brand or product? I think this will be my next little project! Thanks!!
  9. Having a 05RSTD I am curious what your's now looks like?! All I can envious is this guys ex taken the wompas with her when she left! NEED PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Coming south out of Sault Ste. Marie, Canada last summer we turned west on Route 2 after seeing the Mackinac Bridge. We stopped for lunch along there and my girlfriend insisted I try a "pastie" even though I had my heart set on a Philly Cheese Steak. It seems like everyone was promoting pasties in that area! Sort of like in the south with grits!
  11. V7Goose may not have the most personable, or most popular responses but I do value what he has to say, cause he is backing it with a lot of experience! He is also right in trying to paint a complete picture for all, especially the new ones to this site. I think it takes a lot of courage to take a stand like that, so thank you V7Goose! By the way, I have a Kuhmo tire on my bike, notice a wobble at around 90, but still love the tire!
  12. Tongue weight is 45~55lbs. Have ridden 17,000 miles with her and I am quite happy with the performance of the trailer. On the trip up to Freebirds MD I averaged 41mpg and returning I averaged 39mpg which is about 3~4mpg below what I averaged without the trailer and my girlfriend! If you are really interested you can view the following for the pro's and con's of my trailer. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39644 Still looking for the thread on the "foot scraper" I will post it if found!
  13. I saw this from one of our members and thought it was rather cool idea! I will look through my saved threads and see if I can find him. As I remember he used an old floor grate and cleaned her up! Love my rack but most find my trailer to big for their tastes! Good luck!
  14. That is me in the back with the blue drive-on rag. Eileen is helping me with ice. I recognize Ron in the picture but don't know his call sign. Always wondered who Yama Mama was?!!
  15. When I started this I said my "ideal" was to get out of the camp site on or before 8. Rarely do we do that. My girlfriend sleeps a little longer, exercises, (great body) and then showers. I putter and then break down tent when she heads to the shower. We normally head out about 10ish. Not complaining! She does more than her fair share. While at Freebirds Ron from Cincinnati let me know that she was breaking down camp while I was lounging with Freebird and Rick Butler drinking coffee. (I thought Ron would have been considerate enough to help her take down that big tent, but no he made her do it by herself!) She was letting me enjoy my morning! We make a good team. Being the early bird I find things to do such as packing up kitchen, washing dishing, strolling through the camp area, visiting other early birds, etc. I have always felt though that as John Wayne said: "Daylight is wasting". Usually we do stop around 2ish to take that big break, eat some, evaluate our destination which may get modified depending on weather, time left in the day, or new information from locals. We never ride after dark, just to dangerous, and we always have that tent up before dusk. Rarely do we hotel it and we don't go out to eat much. She loves to cook and I love to watch her cook and eat! Great combination. We will occasionally hit a bar if we see one that looks like a hole in wall. One such was Cowboys off of I90 in Wyoming. We were heading to Yellowstone and our campsite for the night was less then a mile from this establishment. We had about 10 beers and a pizza or two and our tab was less then $20 and I tip very, very, good! Love places like that! I try to avoid the interstates as much as possible. Just cannot see as much from there plus I dread getting stuck in road construction! Yuck!! Like painterman67 said I am more interested in the traveling then I am in the destination. So did not mean to turn this into a dissertation just looking for ideas to improve upon our expeditions!! Thanks!!
  16. Just curious on a campers day? How far do you go in one day? What is a typical day like? I usually try for 300miles in a day. My ideal is to get up as soon as I hear the birds, break camp and hit the road by 8, if not earlier. After 2 gas stops, say 200 miles, I am ready for a good long break and am looking for a good lunch place where I can watch my girlfriend drink a bear or two and maybe steal a sip. Review my map and re-evaluate our destination for the evening. Like pulling into camp early setting up watching my girl cook dinner as I write in my journal about the day, the performance of the bike, and any interesting people we came across. Beer really, really taste good then! I can and have done this for a month or more! For me the journey is usually more then the destination I love a good country road I have never been on in a state I have not visited much! As I said this is my ideal! Curious what others experience and what works for them?
  17. Thanks!! That made a hell of a lot of sense and I will be attuned for this in the future! Plus I don't think anyone has come up with a superior niffy way of plugging whatever remains of the AIS system! Thank you for your passion and incitefullness! I know I nipped one of the hoses the first time I did a carb sync and never thought much about it. That will be corrected tomorrow. I replaced the plugs this pass winter and have checked the resistance on the wire and believe I am good there. I averaged 40mpg to and back from Ohio and that was hauling that heavy trailer and pushing 70 on the interstates. You set my pilot screws redid my sync so I think I'll hang on to my AIS! I love doing things the right way and not necessarily the popular way! I am going go back and read all the threads regarding "induction", "afterfire", "after fire" or "popping" I also love being knowledgeable!! Again Thanks!!
  18. So V7Goose, I have always been rather ambivalent when it comes to the AIS system. It is sort of like the state of Louisiana, everyone knows it is there but nobody really cares! (Sorry Boomer!). I assume most have removed theirs because of backfiring? If I followed this correctly your position is that the AIS is the symptom not the cause? So what would be the procedure to find the culprit? Maybe if we had a checklist of items to investigate, ie 1st check for vacuum leaks (what is the procedure for that) 2nd replace old plugs 3rd check for bad connection in the plug caps (high resistance) 4th look for exhaust leaks. A good write up with pictures would be a great alternative choice and may keep others from such radical surgery, as that of removing the AIS! Just a thought!
  19. I would rather take a rusty knife to my engorged hemorrhoid then upset my girl so I have no experience of leaving her at a gas station!
  20. Done! Sorry earlier, just did not see the rest of the message!?
  21. You know everytime I go to the Outpost some flousey always manages to drop her top and show me her ha ha's. Don't you just hate that!? So you bet! Sounds like another bad boys behaving badly adventure!! Don't forget though I'm still in Chattanooga till my daughter graduates college! So we can do a long weekend to Destin n back!!!
  22. Saw you, and your wife, when you were getting ready to leave! Hope you had a great ride back! We went slow and easy but the heat was still murder! I was surprised to find Florida heat in Ohio!!
  23. I knew you were there but I keep running my mouth and getting sidetracked and trying to get maintenance done! We will definitely hook up next time!!
  24. Hate you lost so keys but it was a pleasure as well to met ya! Look me up next time you are heading east! Like you I had to go job hunting over the past year or so. Never fun, rather scary as the bills pile up but that other door always seems to open!
  25. Well showed up for my first ever Maintenance Day. Pulled into Don's place with my big, heavy trailer wondering what type of reception I would receive. First thing I noticed was a ton of Ventures parked everywhere and people standing everywhere! My girlfriend pointed out the place she wanted us to camp and hopped off to secure it leaving me to negotiate a turnaround! I drove down to the house expecting a turn around and ran right into a dead end with everyone looking. Great, just what I wanted a crowd to critique my turning capabilities with that heavy trailer! Fortunately several Venture riders jumped to my aide and with a lot of encouraging, but conflicting directions, and some pushing and pulling we got her turned around! I did not get a chance to get anyone's name and would have promptly forgot them anyhow but I do want to say a mighty THANK YOU!! The standard reverse that comes with these bikes just sucks and I would have been totally embarrassed without the aide. After camp set up we toured the bikes snapping pictures and got in line for the brake fluid change. Bobby, "Naked Rider" was kind enough to do the maintenance while letting me hold things, get in the way, and ask a lot of redundant questions! Not only was he tolerant but he also supplied me with some DOT4 since I had brought DOT3. Big Thanks, Bobby!! The I was ready for Ken, V7Goose, who was adjusting carb's. For those who have not meet Ken, you will find he is a very personable guy. This "guy" drives 1200 miles to this MD works tirelessly all through the day, puts up with ignorant people, asking all kind of questions, such as myself, and then is rewarded with a 1200 mile trip home! He sync my carbs adjusted my pilot screws, and taught me a little more about my bike. Freebird and I tried to quiz him about getting my AIS system off but he just wasn't biting!! By the way for all of us out there that owe Ken for working on our bikes he does like cigars! I plan on having some for him next MD! Besides the maintenance I finally got to meet some of the people from this website such as Earl "Skydoc". Earl has supplied a lot of us with an upgrade kit for our clutches and he had my correct size spring there. What a great guy he is. Learned a lot about brakes and clutches while talking with him. Then there was "Gunboat" or Don! After reading Don's comments about being a darksider I took the plunge and have not looked back. Enjoyed talking with him immensely! Like him I am fortunate enough to have a daughter, now 18, who still loves to go riding with me! Now that is a blessing!! During our conversation I told Don that a center stand for my bike was on my wish list. He is giving me his! Will not take payment for it just wants me to donate to this site! That is why I am a member here, people with hearts like Don's. Speaking of Don, there is the other Don, "Freebird" our host,! What a classy guy, very humble, feels honored to support us with this fantastic website! I so enjoyed listening to him and Rick Butler tell stories before we left the next day. Big, big Thanks to him and his wife for this shindig!!! I did not get to meet all! There was Carbon One who I had purchased some braces from. I was told he was there but did not catch up to him. (to busy running my mouth!) Did not see "Wanderer" either! I also am sure I have not thanked everyone who helped me out or took the time to say hi. What a great bunch!! For those who have not made the pilgrimage I highly recommend this annual MD. You will learn so much and meet the very best!!
