Went for a 500 mile ride today. While passing through Lampasas, Texas I saw two nice Ventures. While sitting at a light, a very nice 2008 crossed the intersection. It had a PGR banner on the windshield. About a quarter mile past there, a very clean, very shiny Midnight RSV, towing a trailer and riding 2up passed the other direction. Wish I had time to chase them down but I was on a schedule... Nice to see 3 ventures in a small town!

Jim, I have the originals from my '08. They are different from most years. You are welcome to them for a small donation to the VentureRider.Org website. What ever small amount you wish. Just send me an email with your address. Your will need some new 3m sticky tape, the type with the red peel off plastic. You can find it at an automotive store in the weather seal stuff. Do you also need the faring whiskers? I think I also have the 'Yamaha' trunk emblem. I can send them too. Just let me know.

Edit: Ok I was wrong about the mileage... Had the dealer pull up my past service records today when he put on a new Venom and found that I only got 14,226 miles out of the venom... sorry for the misinformation.

I have 16k miles on my venoms. The rear one is being changed today. I run 40lbs in the rear and 36lbs in the front. The front has lots of miles left in it. I ride mildly aggressively and mostly solo. Edit: Ok I was wrong about the mileage... Had the dealer pull up my past service records and found that I only got 14,226 miles out of the venom... sorry for the misinformation.

New Clutch Installed - Now Creeping
Owen replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am no mechanic, however I read about one on the internet... On the Vmax forum I saw some clutch posts that were addressing a similuar problem. Here was the statement that turned out to be the fix for 'creeping' after a clutch repair. When reinstalling the steel plates, make sure they are all facing the same direction. If you look closely at them, you will see all the edges on one side are slightly rounded, while the other side is sharp, as a result of the die cutting process. Mixing the direction of these will cause the bike to creep with the clutch disengaged. Maybe this applies... -
How about a photo of what you are looking for??

I have since trimmed the under side of the rubber mat. Just a couple 'rubber nipples' that were in the way. I don't notice them at all.

2 second gen please.

They came as a complete set up. I didn't have to add any parts. I did use stainless steel hardware. I already had the lower vents so I was able to position the pegs for clearance.

I decided to mount highway pegs on my floor boards in stead of the crash bars. This is what I ended up with. They are made for a Road Star. They are drill to mount. I love them. They get my feet away from the motor heat during the hot summer months. http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0295.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0296.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0297.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0298.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0299.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0300.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0301.jpg http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/IMG_0303.jpg

They are mounted on the engine crash bars right next to 'Warning do not use engine guards as foot rests' sticker.

Thats Jeckle and Hyde , not Heckle and Jeckle which of course would be Gunboat and Kbay! :rotf::rotf: http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/jecklenhyde.jpg

Mine warms up just long enough for me to get my helmet and gloves on. Since a proper carb sync and tune up, I never need the choke.

This is a mostly true story... After passing a particular ranch about 25 miles west of Houston many times in the past few months, I had been noticing a red 'something' sitting in a metal storage shed about 500 yds. off the main road. One day I just decided I couldn't stand not knowing what it was any longer. I found the road that lead down to the ranch. Long, winding, washboarded gravel. After crossing all the cattle guards and a couple of fields, I turned the corner and there it was, in all its glory. It was showing its age a little but the big 4 cylinders were sitting there waiting to come back to life. I noticed two brand new ME880 tires and the bright red, hand covered seat that I could see from the highway. A couple cows came over to check me out while I was entranced with my discovery. A few minutes later I heard a tractor come into the pasture and head my way. I met the nice gentleman that owned the property and the bike. We had a nice discussion about the bike which he said belonged to his son for years, but that he had lost interest and left it with him. The gentleman was in his late 60's and said he didn't ride any longer, but he hated to see the bike go to waste so he had taken it to a yamaha dealer to have a little work done. It had new carb boots, tires, and a tune up. He reached over and picked the keys off a nail in the corner post and started it up. Wow! It sounded smooth and strong! It had some signs of age and had been down on its side at least once but the damage was very minor and everything appeared to be straight and true. He said his wife had made the new red seat cover and she was proud of her work. I can't tell you how happy I was that he decided to let me buy the wonderful bike at a very reasonable price! I'm a 1st Gen owner!! Never thought I would say that! And I must admit it is faster than my 2nd gen... I did mention it is a 1ST GEN Vmax... right? :rotf: Here are a couple pics.
