Taking the Kickstand Off
Owen replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I took mine off once. Supported the bike with a floor jack, dropped the shifter and linkage to get at the bolts. Getting the spring back on can be tough. I bent it double, forced washers between the coils, bent it the other direction and put more washers on the other side. That made it long enough to slip back on then pulled the washers out with pliers. Not the right way maybe but my 'Fred and Barney' way worked. -
Dosen't matter.... my dog don't listen to me anyhow!!!

5th gear spins about 500rpm faster, that's not going to affect gas mileage much. Now not being able to resist the 'grin factor' will...

With the upcoming MS150 2010 in late April, I thought I would post this link to last years event from the eyes of the Motorcycle Marshals. There are about 90 Motorcycle Marshals working this worth wild event. Most are ham radio ops and many are EMTs/medical types. It is a real work out for the motorcycles and marshals alike. Enjoy the video. There are several pages of still photos on the left side of the page also.

I double mine up. Grips really good, but, the lever is harder to pull than my old hands can put up with for very long.
-
I removed and reinstalled mine 3 times with no problem. I did not spray mine... I doubled up the springs and it works fine but the lever is pretty stiff so this is not a permanent fix for me.
-
Thanks Earl!! I thought I was loosing my mind...

Well all I can say at this point is that my old, original spring is stouter than the new 'heavy duty' one. I have called Earl and left a message. I'm sure we will figure it out. I am sure as possible about all of the installation. The clutch was bled and the slave appears to be fine. As a temporary fix, I installed both springs and no more slipping, however, the lever is a bit stiffer than I would prefer.

I'm still trying to figure mine out too... been talking to Squid on the phone... I will report back if we come up with an answer...
-
Well the clutch lever was not actuated while working on the basket. So maybe I just got something in wrong although I was really careful. We will see when she cools down and I open her up...

Translation?

Thanks Don. I finished the upgrade. Clutch handle is really light and I'm getting some slipping in all gears. I am confident everything is back together correctly. Maybe I need to bleed the clutch??? What is the standard fluid to be used??? Duh!! its on the cap! update: Bled the clutch... a little more on the handle but still slippin'. After it cools, I will open it up and see what I screwed up...

Received my kit! There is mention in the thread about instructions... are they available somewhere? Or is freebirds post correct for this kit??

Another Clutch Slipping
Owen replied to craigatcsi's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yamaha would not cover my clutch slipping. '08 30k miles. I suggest you talk to Skydoc, he will fix you up with the correct parts for a good price.- 9 replies

ATGATT... Armored jacket, pants, boots, usually leather gloves and usually a FF helmet, but sometimes a 3/4. If its cold I wear full leather. I'm too pretty to get marred up in a crash...

Yep, that's them love bugs. Seem to be attracted to exhaust fumes. Hang out around the highways by the millions. They don't bite or anything like that, just leave a nasty splat on your car/bike that is really hard to remove after it dries. Easiest way is to soak a towel in warm water and let it soften them up. I use a polymer based quick detailer on the bike before hand that seems to make them easier to remove.
-
It's not even April yet and the love bugs are here already. Ran through a 'cloud' of them this afternoon. Gotta get my silicon polymer dilithium crystal anti-love bug spray on my bike soon!

I think the motivation for more enforcement comes from the increased revenue it generates. Here in Houston, just like other places, the 'money grab' is always on. Granted, cell phone restrictions are a good thing for everyone's safety, but motivation of enforcement is not necessarily based on public protection...

Here is a step in the right direction. Hope it catches on in other states. Seattle Washington
