Get a copy of ride like a pro and practice, practice, practice. It's a big bike, I'm a little guy, but I am comfortable on it and handle it pretty well. You will too. Welcome to the site!

At some point in the future, if your helmet stinks, it's damaged and should be replaced. It will be interesting to see if this makes it to market. I can see the application. Odd how widely diversified opinions are about helmets. One drop from the seat and it needs to be replaced... I've dropped mine from the second story and it don't look too bad. Which one are you? Here's the story.

Take him a house warming gift, something he can really use, like an extra quart of oil!

Web Bike Worlds article on customer satisfaction for helmets seems to show 'you get what you pay for'. Having owned HJC, Nolan, Fulmer and Scorpion, I guess I fall into that category. The scorpion is by far the best I have worn. What do you think? The report is linked on the right side or click here.

Five brothers went off to fight for our freedoms in WWII. One of them was my father, Owen Sr. On this Memorial Day, May 31, 2010, the surviving Quarles veteran brothers Bob, Carey and Carson honor, remember and pay tribute to their deceased veteran brothers, Owen and Lewis: Lewis E. Quarles was a tail gunner in the Navy. He survived being shot down twice during World War II. He passed away on December 15, 2001. Owen F. Quarles fought on the front line in Germany as an infantry soldier. Only through the grace of God was Owen able to return home alive. Owen suffered the scars of front line fighting for the rest of his life after the World War II. On the night of his death on October 3, 2001, he heard bombs blasting and guns blazing out side his hospital room. Some times there are worse things than dying. May God bless the service of all the men and women who are serving and have served this Country in the military. May their service and dedication be honored and remembered with reverence. It is the VETERAN , not the preacher, who has Given us freedom of religion. It is the VETERAN , not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the VETERAN , not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the VETERAN , not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble. It is the VETERAN , not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. It is the VETERAN , not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote. You know... this was a post concerning the fact the cold snap here was over. Not a post about my availability for mowing and dog grooming duties...

Mid 90's here in Houston today... summer is here. Pretty warm mowing the lawn but the garden hose felt good while washing the dogs!

I have a set of Samsons with turn down tips on my lowrider. They are louder than drilled stocks and just a tad louder than Bubs. No quite as loud as 4-2-4 nasty boys. The turn down angle makes the tone lower than most exhausts I have heard. They were made for a RSTD. Bought them un-used, still in the box, on craigslist for $50. The list was about $400. http://i521.photobucket.com/albums/w337/Owen064/P3203285.jpg

Saw a guy at the Galveston, TX biker rally doing these. Some looked really good, and he had obviously been doing them for a long time.

Stopped by the dealer's today to say howdy to some friends that work there and look around. One of my buddies says 'come out to the storage area and look at what we just got in'. It was a black shinny strat deluxe. Wow! What a beautiful bike. 113 ci fuel injected beauty. I love the lines on this bad boy. It has a very comfortable sitting position and the seat height was just right for me (I'm a shorty) just about the same as my low rider venture. When I picked it off the kick stand it felt considerably lighter than the venture. I couldn't start it or ride it because they had not finished prep on it. But I must say that is a very nice bike!
