  1. Did my duty. Some of the countys (State Rd Dept. and County Rd Dept.) in my area are doing ok, while others are doing almost nothing for the four wheelers, let along the two wheelers. Thanks Don.....
  2. 2007 RSTD - K&N filters - Roadhouse slip on pipes - 44 mpg after pipes, 38 mpg before pipes. Very criticaly checked mileage. I also plugged off AIS sytem and had carbs synced ($20.00 at dealers- Jefferson City,Ky-Boone the mechanic. ). I think it is very important to have carbs synced after the pipes and filters, this changes your air flow on your bike and thus requires syncing carbs. My bike had a small surge at around 60 mile an hour and was not getting a good gas mileage, synced carbs because of the excellant advise of these fine folks and FIXED MY BIKE:cool10:. Thanks to everyone and VentureRider.Org........... Just my opinion.
  3. Howdy Principal, there are no true idiots on here, we are just learning new things. Don't see no need for high end gas myself, I burn the regular unleaded fine, no problems at all. 2007 Royal Star Tour Deluxe (1 ,500 miles so far) - Roadhouse pipes and K&N filters - 44 average critically checked miles per gallon - bought new this March 2008. You did better than I the first oil change, I let them do it and found out that was a joke at my dealer house (I changed dealers, maybe you should). You should change engine oil and filter at around 800 mile the first time, also do not use the synthetic until around 10,000 miles if you prefer. Also change rear end grease at 800 mile the first time. One quart of yamalube rear end grease will change the rear end about three or four times. I am going to change my engine oil and filter on about 4,000 miles myself. I am going to change rear end grease at about every other engine oil change (8,000 miles). I added new pipes and air filters and plugged off ASI system and then had carbs synced, running perfectly and taking trip tomorrow. Sounds complicated, but it is not really. This webb site and these fine folks have been a great help to me. Just look in the RSTD tech library and you will find all you will need to do the things listed here. Plugging the AIS system is just fine, just don't tell everyone you did it (dealer, warranty issue). It is just a EPA gadget.... Thats just how I feel, not everyone. James
  4. Thanks RSTDRIDER, and where did you get that drink holder ? Does it work ok ? James
  5. What Grey Fox said, or me too, or count me in, yes pics please.
  6. Dennis,

Just saw that you live here in Ky and wanted to speak a howdy to you. I live in Carter County just off US 60 near Olive Hill and about 15 mile from Morehead. I have the 2007 RSTD.

  7. I too have this problem, not bad, but I do smell gas now and then. So you do not have this problem now, no gas smell ??
  8. Just checked my 2007 RSTD again. Same story, riding alone, not loaded(just the regular stuff),properly inflated tires(checked yesterday)36 front and 41 rear, and at normal stop and go highway and cruising speed mix, roadhouse pipes and K&N filters, 44 average mile per gallon. I also had carbs synced after the pipes and filters. I am very critical about checking mileage. Same pump, parked same way, about same time day. I also wanted to make sure my reserve worked properly before next week end trip. So I run it out of gas and turned on reserve, everything OK. The gas indicator started blinking at 158.8 miles and then run another 15.6 until ran out and then went to reserve. I am going to have to check the owners manual to get amount in reserve. Can't remember.
  9. We have decided to go over to Fancy Gap and pick up the Blue Ridge Parkway and head north.
  10. Any suggestioms from you all ? Myself and riding buddy, close friend for yrs are planning a Fri. off be back Sun. trip from home (Olive Hill, Ky.) to (Clintwood, Virginia)- 3 hrs 30 min. from here. Then on to who knows where, but be back Sunday. Leaving out next Fri. or maybe next week Fri. according to the weather. Suggestions appreciated. We love the montains and parks, thought about going up 42 ?
  11. Ya, me too, what Seabeetom said, no warranty ??????????
  12. Thanks Tom, I will do that. Probably do myself if I can afford to get my garage finished so that I have a place to work. Biulding on room onto house and got foudation ready for room and garage. My wife says master bedroom first and then, if enough money left, garage. Man I might have to do some sweet talking here......
  13. I was doing an average check, so I road 45-50-60-70 mph off and on. No burning up the red light take off. All though I really love to hear them pipes beller ...............
  14. Seabeetom, I had the carb sync done after I had installed Roadhouse pipes and K&N air filters, I also plugged the AIS system myself. This changed my air flow and thus carbs needed synced. I payed $20.00 to have this 20 minute job done. I was glad to get it done for that price, do not let dealers over charge you. That is the normal price for this job I found out. The sync does make a differance if you have changed the air flow on your bike. I could feel a little surge at 60 mph and was only getting 36-38 mile per gallon fuel.
  15. I told everyone that I would give update to an earlier thread that I posted. So here it is; Checked her again - running 44 mile per gallon average. Riding from work and back and a couple evening and Sunday after church rides. Syncing the carbs did it, I am really tickled with my RSTD. I am very critical when I check gas mileage. Go back to same pump and park same way and fill to same level and around same time of day. This evening held 3.4 gallon of regular unleaded at 150 miles, thus another 44.1 mpg. Only thing that worries me now is the threads that I have read concerning no grease in the the rear ends/hub of these bikes, and to grease every time the rear wheel is removed ??? I have not heard any rear end/hub noises thus far, and hope it stays that way. But I only have 1,500 miles on it anyway. Hey in another 5,000 to 8,000 or so, I will probably get around 46/48 mile per gallon. :cool10:Love this forum, appreciate everyones feed back on my problem after new pipes and K&N air filters. *FIXED PROBLEM*
  16. If you have never had them off, then you should remove the cracked one and really take a look at what is behind them. You might change your mind. Just my thoughts, good luck.
  17. Thanks Goose.............
  18. Thats funny, really funny, I don't care who you are, thats funny...:rotf::rotf::rotf: I injoyed the read Goose. I too had not given that much thought to mpg, but man how I love too ride and read this forum.
  19. I had carbs synced ($20.00) and they where way out, I saw myself. Fixed my problem I am sure. Not enough miles to check mpg yet, but bike is no longer surging at 60 mph.No jetting needed on these bikes...... Thanks to everyone for your help. I really enjoy this forum. James
  20. Thanks Goose, I thought the same thing, that at 960 miles you can not give it a fair measurement. But probably still would not hurt to sync carbs after the pipe & K-N filter installation. Thanks to everyone for your help. I really injoy this forum, so much that my wife says that if I don't get off this computer ............. Well got go.
  21. Thanks JGorom, I thought that it might be condensation, but it stained the inside pipes and so I thought possibly gas but your right I am sure.
  22. Thanks Yamahamer, will check into that.
  23. Thanks Tom for the information, really appreciate that. I talked with a couple mechanics today and found a really good mechanic and fine person to go with it (Boone). He is in Jackson Ky. and he said he would sync carbs for $20.00. I will be in contact again with him next week to arrange time and place. He said same as you, that sync would probably help and no need to jet. Boone said that he had the digitil sync tool. I will be checking into the Carb sync tool. Thanks again.
  24. Thanks Tom, will look in to that better. I know a feller out on industrial parkway that might be able to help me out. But he probably has the old type sync tools.
  25. Ya, I do like to hear them pipes bellerrrrrrr through the hills and hollers.
