A very dear friend and long time hunting and fishing companion just passed away at 5:30 PM. I wanted to get to see him one more time, but the Lord called him home today. Please remember the family of brother Bill Rose from Mansfield, Ohio. His son Jerry is just like my own brother to me. Please remember us all in your prayers. Fuzzy http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fobit.wappner.com%2Fobitdisplay.html%3Fid%3D932820%26listing%3DCurrent&h=1fcb1 In Memory Of My Dear Friend. Bill was a very dear friend to me. Treated me so that I felt that I was family. A great individual whom I will always cherish in my life. He taut me so very much through the yrs that I knew him. I loved him deeply and will always remember the trips to lake Erie, the stops to get ice cream on the way home, the goggle eyes we caught together, the times that he didn't rub it in when he caught all the fish. The gapping Bill called it (Yawning) in the mornings and when we where so tired from getting up so early, to do what we loved. The hours we spent riding and talking together in the early hours of morning just to climb into a stand and sometimes get a glimpse of the old biggin. The fishing baits he gave me. The times he would lend me a rifle (Thunder Stick) or shotgun to hunt when I could not afford one. The arrows and broad-heads he gave me to get a biggin. The honey he gave me that he and Angeline worked so hard to take care of and then would not let me pay him for it. The time he drove me (both of us dressed in camouflage) to the hospital to get a thorn out of my hand, that I could not get out. Then we went straight on to the deer woods. The phone calls he would make to me just to see how I was doing and to check on my wife. I always think of Bill and his family as being my family. We love you all. WE LOVE YOU BILL AND HOPE TO MEET YOU IN THE WOODS OR ON THE LAKE OF GOD'S GREAT HEAVEN.. Fuzzy

New Antifreeze start up ??
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks Marcarl, I did have the tank back on and let it cool. Just came up from garage a short time ago and the radiator did as was supposed to. It sucked the antifreeze back into its self and everything back to just a little over full mark, about 1/4 inch above full on the overflow tank. Thanks, so sounds like everything ready to go. Got all fluids changed; oil & filter, rear diff oil, greased all splines/including the axle spline to yoke, new antifreeze. I should be good to go for many moons now.:cool10: Only thing I would like to do and really do not understand how, I will see about that at Freebirds MD. That is oiling the cables, brake/clutch. I have heard that you need a special tool for this. Red is much faster and lot smoother now. Well should be, have not rode it yet. Fuzzy- 9 replies

New Antifreeze start up ??
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yes used regular Prestone Green 150,000 mile or 5 yrs. Diluted with distilled water. I did use a little more antifreeze than water. I like it just a little stronger than normal.- 9 replies

I have changed my anti freeze and have let the bike run now for 20 minutes, long enough that it got hot enough for the cooling fan to kick on. I notice that the overflow is about 1 inch above normal full level. So I suppose this is normal. If there was any air locks or reason for the bike to get hot (boil over), should it have done so in that length of time ??? Never changed antifreeze in a bike before.............. No leaks anywhere and I did the whole drain except the pump. Thank you all for your advice. :confused24::confused24:

Thanks, I am a true believer in Sea Foam and also Stabil. These are fine products, I only pour in the tank and run for a bit, usually more than required or stated in instructions. So far no problems. I started my tiller just yesterday after sitting for two winters, no garden last yr, the flood took it. It started at the second pull and run like a top. However I did throw a belt and had to remove cover. I need new belts.

The body styles and yr models. First generation and then the second generation of the same motor but with differences in the way the body is set up and some newer looks. I have the Royal Star Tour Deluxe (second gen). The instrument cluster looks like the old 55 Chevrolet and it is Candy Apple Red and Black. The windshield and passenger back rest can be removed to make the bike look completely different. Just a few of the things that I know. The others that own the 1st gen and been around these bikes for many many yrs can answer better than I. Oh Ya, and after reading marcarl post, RED is the fastest by far and a lot more smoother too. "I" basket question
FuzzyRSTD replied to david Taylor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had the basket changed in my bike. It did make a difference. The noise changed from my normal riding speed to a higher speed and was not as noticeable. I do not even hear it at all now. I would suggest you read a lot of the post here and see what others have said. I think it gets better as it gets broken in with some miles. I changed mine at around 4000 miles. There are three different baskets if my memory serves me right. This is the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. I also had my seat done here by Rick. He doesn't charge that much and I went from riding 50 miles and stretching to 80 - 100 miles. This is a very interesting site here and you will find everything you need here for the bike. These folks are very helpful. Fuzzy -
Yes, sounds like these folks doing their best to make you welcome Jonas. Nice bike, and welcome to you and your wife from Fuzzy in Kentucky. I am a full blooded Hillbilly and very very proud of it. Hope to meet you at Freebirds. Can't wait to tell my friend JD what all you folks have done for Jonas, wonderful. Fuzzy

What kind antifreeze should I get ?
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Got the antifreeze completely changed last night. I got evrything back except the crowling and side covers and seat and chrome cover on tank. I drained each cylinder head (used a small long threaded bolt to remove the rubber and aluminum plugs, worked great). I used a 5" piece of aluminum duct tape to create a troff for two of the drain plugs (stuck it sticky side down in under the plugs) and caught all the antifreeze, including what came out of radiator and the overflow tank which I removed and rinsed out with distilled water. I poured all of it in a gallon milk jug. I then marked the jug with a permanent marker at the line of the fluid. I then measured the distance from the bottom of the jug to the line, 6". Divided that by 2 and put another line at 3". I then poured out the liquid and rinsed out the jug with the distilled water and poured the antifreeze to the second line and poured in the distilled water to the first line. Then I put the lid on and give it a good shaking mix. Then put back in the radiator and the overflow tank. Exactly held it all. I added a small amount of pure antifreeze to the overflow because It was slightly low at the beginning. I did put just a little more antifreeze than distilled water, just an extra couple oz's . I will say that my bike (2007) has 12,300 miles on it and the antifreeze looked as if it where put in a week ago. Very clean and a good color, very strong green color. So I am not planning on doing this again until 40,000 miles or 5 yrs, which ever comes first. I also thought that if you would remove these plugs very often, then you would want to replace after four or five times removing. Maybe the climate here is not that extreme or what ever may be the cause, but the antifreeze that came out was very sticky and strong to the odor and color. I also keep my bike in a garage all the time. The garage never gets below freezing inside, and stays pretty comfy in the summer. Glad I did this and would recommend doing it your self. However I am not a mechanic and do not claim to be. But (manual recommends) 2 yrs/16,000 miles and I believe this is to often to do this, unless you live and ride a lot in an extreme climate. Thanks to Goose and Freebird and the other feller whom I can't remember right now "Pheonix" (made the troff out of tape and bottle idea) for all the good Tech info. Glad I am a member to such a wonderful site.....- 6 replies

Be precise please. I have never bought antifreeze for a motorcycle. The book says to get Ethylene Glycol type. I have not got a clue what that is. Is it possibly just plain old car antifreeze or what ? What brand should I get for a bike. I am sure it would have to be for an aluminum engine. I would like to completely change even. I do now know the procedure, thanks to Goose and the tech library. The bike is a 2007 model and has same antifreeze. Thank you in advance. Fuzzy

Tom, I had this problem also (head gasket) leaking oil. I found out from a very reliable mechanic that there was a recall on this model yr. The dealers and mechanics where informed that these bikes should be checked out. Should tork the head bolts before the bike leaves the shop. My bike was not and I had exact same problem at around 1200 miles. Warranty fixed, but was a headache. The mechanic (Boone) did a wonderful job replacing head caskets and also took the bike home with him and put around a 100 miles on it and checked tork again before calling me to pick up. This was at Yamaha of Jackson Ky, a good ways from me. I did not trust the dealer mechanic from whom I bought the bike. Shame you are waiting so long, I think I had my bike back in about 2 weeks. I am sure they will get it.

Freebird's Maintenance Day Parts/Accessories Thread

Michellea, A previous post from a highly respected individual here. :backinmyday:I would listen to him on this. Fuzzy -
Yep, probably . I was thinking the same thing. I work for the State Hwy myself here in Ky., and people absolutely are not aware of you when on the cell phone; I see it while flagging traffic, trying to clear the roadways of snow and ice or trees, or mowing the right aways. Some people have minds that can not talk and drive at the same time. I am not saying it is wrong to be on a portable phone, these things are life savers and awesome. But texting while driving is way wrong, and should not ever be allowed. You know if you can talk and drive at the same time. If you feel a need to get off the phone because of a situation (high volume of traffic, emergency, a child on a bicycle) , then please just hang up. I have seen so many close calls. I hope the officer recovers and I feel sorry for the car motorist too. They will have to live with this the rest of their life.

PMed Ponch Freebird, thanks. I am kinda thinking that a center stand from a V-max might work. But just wishful thinking I guess. What model of the first gens will work with the mod you mention ? I can find those for kinda cheap . Fuzzy

Yep, $ 349.00 thanks ...... Yes researched Venture Rider site first and then internet , came up with Rivco also. Nice $$$$$$$$$

Just Done some research and can not find anything besides Freebirds center stand mod. But he does not make it anymore. I have searched quite some time through the site here and found nothing pertaining to the second gen bike center stand. There is what looks like where a center stand should be on the bike. I suspect that Yamaha or no one else makes this. Does anyone here have a center stand that works for the second gen 2007 ? If so would like to have some info please ? I have one of the center stands that I purchased from someone here. The kind that you put under one side and then jack the bike up from the other and put pin in. Works on my bike stand, but would like a center stand permanent on the bike. Thanks in advance for any and all help. Would a center stand off of a V-Max work ?
