Bike lift help....
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Well now that would be neat. But the model I have would be kinda hard to fix that way. But wow how nice and neat that would be. Is this yours ? Fuzzy -
What elmicko said, me too. Fuzzy

I once ask a question about riding boots and got this reply. Motorcycle riding boots that are made well should have a wide and thick sole with tall leather tops. Thick sole - to help protect from the very hot blacktop surface. Wide sole - to help stabilize you when stopped with a heavy bike. Tall leather tops - to protect you from the pipes and the motor heat. I bought a pair of Harley Davidson boots and took the copper/brass emblem off from the side of the sole and replaced the emblem with another that a friend made for me that said Yamaha. They say HD on them high on the boot but it is covered by my pants.

So you probably only trimmed the gel pad inside I suppose ? Fuzzy
-
Good point. Yes, it does in fact set you higher on the bike. Not much. But in my case, I needed a little more hight anyways. The hight factor does also need to be considered. But the way this thing is made, it crushes down considerably. Still it would not be good for someone whom is already tip toeing to hold the bike up. I would say that it sits you up at least 1/2 inch higher. Fuzzy

Sorry, I mean Condor. My bad. Yep you can take my word for it. I was also surprised when I saw the side stand off and up about two inches.

Thanks Goose for the carb sync. I bought a can of Sea Foam at Wally World in Mansfield that very evening. Put in two ounces and filled up to start home Sunday morning. Ran that tank low and filled up again and added two more ounces. Buy the time I arrived at 23 in Circle-ville,Ohio I could feel the bike smooth up some and everything is perfect. The bike wasn't really running rough enough to notice for me. But after I felt it smooth up, that is when I become a big fan of Sea Foam."""Thanks Ponch for the center stand, and installing it. I really appreciate it. I purposely came home through some twisty road to see if the stand would drag. It worked fine and no problems. I need to cut myself a piece of 2 x 4 9 1/4 " long to keep in my saddle bag. Now if I am on the road and have a flat. I can plug it and air it up with my Wally World portable 12 volt air pump. """"Thanks Freebird for letting me and Ponch use your battery drill and bit."" ""Wonderful helpful people, thanks to all for information about these bikes and all your help.:cool10:

I always wave in some sort or another. I get so frustrated when other bikers see me and do not speak. That is down right rude I think. If there is possible danger ahead for the oncoming rider, I flash my headlights from dim to bright a few times. I think this is always known among everyone, bikers and automobiles. Which I will warn both of danger ahead. Fuzzy

Condo, the clamp in the front will hold the bike. When I tightened the clamp on my lift, the bike lifted to a upright position off the side stand. Yes the clamp will hold the bike and I also put two straps on my bike. The lift also has u-clamps on the sides to hook the straps. I put a stand under my bike in the center to hold the rear wheel off the ground. Then you just remove the back plate to remove the rear wheel. It works great I assure you. The rear wheel comes right down through the lift. The hydraulics work fine. I left my bike on the stand for a week and it did not leak off at all. There is also a steel rod that you can place through two holes on each side to hold the weight just in case, and for peace of mind. I also remove the hydraulic pedals after I get the bike up. You must build a wooden platform the same hight as the lift platform up from the ground to place your feet and side stand on - once you ride or push the bike up on the lift. I am going to build myself one asap. I think the wooden platform should be around 18" wide and 24" to 36" long. I do not know the hight without measuring it yet, but probably around 5" to 6" high. Bike lift help....
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks Brian, good idea. I wondered if that would be possible (pushing it up). Thank you Art. I had that very same idea. I am going to build me a couple of those boxes. Probably need to be about 12 inches wide and only 2 feet long I would suppose ? Fuzzy -
I used the gel cushion on my ride to Mansfield, Ohio and on to Oberlin, Ohio to Freebird,s MD. Great MD meet for me, loved it. The gel cushion did good. I rode 130 mile before my first stop and then another 120 or so before next stop for fuel. I was somewhat sore and wiggling in the seat. But over all it did help and I went from around 70 miles to 130 with out stopping. It does need the sheepskin cover, and I am still looking. This on a Rick Butler mod factory seat. I did the same ride home today the same way. I am wondering if maybe the $124.00 seat cushion with the 3/4 inch gel would be much better. They do already come with sheep skin to..... Fuzzy

Just wondering how or if you all manage to get your bike on the lift by yourself. I had my daughter to help me as I road the bike up on the lift. I first set two milk crates beside the lift, one on each side, then road up and used these to set my feet upon when I stopped. Then my daughter tightened the clamp on the front tire and also helped get the paint can and short piece 2x4 under my side stand. Surely, or is there a better way, and maybe a safer way of doing this by myself ???? The lift is from Harbor Freight item number 91764, the red one. :confused24: Fuzzy

I have one of these and they are great for our bikes. I also purchased one for my friend $175.00. I get them from a co-worker that gets them from a fellow whom gets Harbor Freight stuff that is ship damaged. He then sells them at a low cost. I paid $200.00 for mine. It works perfect and the only thing missing was the front wheel stop. I made one from a piece of 2x4 and bolted it on. My friends was missing the clamp and he ordered it from Harbor freight for $13.00 plus shipping. Good price I think considering they are sold for around 400 to 500 dollars. It was also missing the ramp, one of his co-workers is making him a ramp. The one thing that I noticed about these is this, when you have your bike up on the lift make sure you take the lowering lever for your foot back out from the jack. This way you do not accidentally step on or trip over this. I remove both after getting the bike up. :mo money::mo money::mo money: Fuzzy

Made it back home Sunday at 4.00 pm, no rain at all. Had a wonderful time. Met some friends that I felt as if I knew but had never saw them in person. Learned a few more things about my ride a long the way. Thanks Don and Eleen for everything. Like someone has already mentioned, it was wonderful of you all to open your home and garage that way for the club. The dinner was great and just what everyone could eat and be satisfied. I also noticed that most everyone was respectable about it and tried to show their thanks and help to take care of your home, tools, lawn furniture, trash and all. I know you probably had a lot of cleaning still. Thanks again, and hope you will have me back next year. Maybe I can get my wife to come up with me next time. Fuzzy

Yes your right Yammer. Sold out here locally and called another store and drove several extra miles to get their last one in stock. The guy put it back for me.They say they keep them in stock, but you know how that is sometimes. Hope you find one, the talk so far is that these things are the way to go. Trying mine out tomorrow on my ride to Freebirds. You can order from Wallmart.com and they will send to your local store, no shipping cost. Fuzzy

FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Watering Hole
Ya, thanks Freebird. I am already getting bag packed. The bike is washed and ready. Put address in GPS. Good Lord willing I will be there Saturday morning around 9:00 am or so. Fuzzy -
There is a man here local that does seat coverings and says that he might be able to get me a 36"x30" piece of black long hair sheepskin for around $ 30.00 . I thought that would be reasonable enough. I would have enough to make me a cover for my backrest also. Finding out tomorrow evening. Will not be able to get it and make before Freebirds MD. Fuzzy

Always 100% of the time I wear a half helmet or shorty some may call it. Full face in colder weather and full helmet with shield in colder weather. Always wear my old cotton vest with patches. I am not for forcing people to wear helmets, but why make laws for people to wear seat belts in cages with air bags and safety features. Then why do people ride with out helmets ? I know it is your own freedom to do as you please, but it is a proven fact that helmets save you from brain damage or death. Yes it is very much more the comfortable with out it. But is it really worth it ? I would never vote for such a law, it is your choice I think, same as I believe it should be for the cages. I also wear my seat belt and have taught my children to do the same always. I vote against such a law as this. I also do not wear short pants and never liked them, I would vote against such a law to force me to wear short legged pants. Fuzzy

FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Watering Hole
Ya aint that the truth Gary. I live up Reeves Branch just off US 60 west. It is just this side of Upper Tygart school about 1 mile. I have very dear friends from there. Jerry Rose whom is just like my brother and his wife Vickie. His Dad, Bill (Willie) Rose just past away last week and we where there for the funeral. He lived just off Hanna road on the corner of Hamburg street in front of the small machine shop. Jerry lives out next to the airport on Sheets Drive. Both of my Mom's brothers,my uncles, lived there the for most of their lives. Junior Hall and Bill Hall. Fuzzy -

Is anyone riding up to Freebirds MD and going through or by Olive Hill or Grayson,Ky around 4:30 pm this Friday evening ? I will be going that way and my riding buddy JD had to cancel out on me due to his work schedule. So if anyone needs a riding pardoner then I will be ready at 4:30 pm kick stand up. I have traveled this route many times and usually just go to Grayson and take the AA HWY to cross bridge into Ohio and 104 to 386 over to 23 north and 270 west bypass to 71 north to Mansfield. I will stay with friends there and then on to Oberlin the next morning early. So if you need a riding friend to at least Mansfield ? PS: I was up that way just last Thursday, and want to let everyone know to please be aware of the roads up that way. Especially I-71 north, they are rough and down right dangerous for a motorcycle in a few places. Please take your time and I would not ride this route after dark. Fuzzy

checking the fork air
FuzzyRSTD replied to warriorhoneybee's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Very important to always and often check the air pressure in your tires. If you run them to low very long at all, you will be replacing them very quickly. Especially riding two up often. This is very important and could save your lives. I am pretty confident in saying you should also check your air shocks at least three times a season and when packing for a trip. Fuzzy -
I did find a site on the web that sells sheepskin for pet beds. They are 20" x 20" I think and have a removable inside so they can be washed $56.00 so far. Still looking..... Fuzzy

Do not understand David ???? Ya thanks, figured that. Thats why I would like a sheepskin cover for it. Done ...... Yep, that is why I would like to cover it with sheepskin. Having a hard time finding any on the net or anywhere here at the local fabric shops. Fabric shops are just about a thing of the past anymore. People do not sew like they used to. Fuzzy
