Funeral Escort Killed
FuzzyRSTD replied to Yama Mama's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
Sad, I hate to hear of these things happening, especially to those whom are trying to help. Thank you Yama Mama for bringing this to our attention. I do wish the very best for his family and friends, and in the best way I know how. Fuzzy -

An atheist was seated next to a little girl on an airplane and he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with a fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, "What would you want to talk about?" "Oh, I don't know," said the atheist. "How about why there is no God?" as he smiled smugly. "Ok," she said. "Those could be interesting topics but let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, but a horse produces clumps. Why do you suppose that is?" The atheist, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea." To which the little girl replies, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss why there is no God when you don't know crap?" And then she went back to reading her book. Fuzzy

Need a poll for second gen rear shock
FuzzyRSTD replied to CaptainJoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks Squidley, but to really see some good results, should it have like a space for mileage and also include a 0- vote for those whom have not replaced ? Something like this maybe. 0 shock 5,000 - 20,000 0 shock 20,000 - 40,000 0 shock 30,000 - 50,000 1 shock 5,000 - 20,000 miles 2 shocks 20,000 - 40,000 3 shocks 20,000 - 40,000 4 shocks 30,000 - 50,000 5 shocks 40,000 - 100,000 Just my thoughts Thanks Fuzzy -
I found this information....And we thought we where the only ones that had to get greasy.MMMMmm Yamaha Molybdenum Disulfide Grease This extreme-pressure grease lubricates high loads at various speeds. Non-corrosive, it’s water-resistant, exhibiting low-friction properties that protect against wear and galling in difficult operating conditions. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spline Lubricants You need to grease your drive splines each time you change your rear tire. This is true for all shaft drive bikes, regardless of brand. This is a real issue: ask any BMW rider, or any old-time ST1100 or GL high mileage type, and you'll likely get a whole lecture about spline maintenance. The lecture may or may not be informed, but it will demonstrate real concern. The drive splines get surprisingly hot. Additionally, there's a lot of pressure on the splines and a lot of back and forth sliding motion. Any liquid type of grease will quickly be squeezed out of the splines, and leave you with no protection. The first time you remove your rear tire, you will likely find that the factory grease has dried out completely and solidified into something which does not even remotely resemble a lubricant. Actually, if it's a good Moly grease, it's still doing its job in this form, but it's not a pretty sight. Honda specifies a spline grease which is 60% molybdenum disulfide ("moly"). Moly is a dry lubricant which bonds to the metal surfaces, offering lubrication properties even when the parts have squeezed everything liquid out. A lot of greases now say "Moly" on the container, but you must be careful about this. Ford and Caterpillar specify moly greases for particular applications, but the requirement is for 3% moly, not even close to the 60% requirement of Honda. It's not enough to buy a moly grease, what you really want is basically dry moly in a grease-like carrier which makes it easier to apply. These days, most BMW shops seem to be using the Honda moly paste on drive splines. I have no idea what Kawasaki, Yamaha, or Suzuki dealers are doing, but if it's anything like what most Honda dealers are doing, it's simply not acceptable. My informal survey of Honda shops, backed up by observations from several other riders, has convinced me that essentially none of them use Moly-60. They use the cheapest brake and drive shaft grease they can buy. If you let a dealer or shop change your rear tire, be certain they are using Moly-60 paste or Krytox, or you're going to be needing new drive splines in about 50,000 miles. Guaranteed. I recommend you remove and replace your own wheels, leaving the spline cleaning and lubrication up to you. If you want nothing to do with this, then I recommend you have a talk with your favorite mechanic before tires come up, and buy your own tube of lubricant if necessary. Moly greases with 60% + molybdenum disulfide content: Honda Moly 60 paste, $9 for 3oz, pn 08734-0001 at your Honda dealer, or $8 from Kim Leong, STOC 3073, California Sport Touring. LocTite Moly paste, 65% molybdenum disulfide. $20 for an 8oz tube from Enco, part #505-1197, 800-873-3626 TS-70 Moly Paste, 4 oz. ctg. $14 from TSMoly. (800) 508-5545 An alternative to moly is the new poly-flourinated lubricants made by DuPont called Krytox Teflon Bearing Grease. These chemicals are simply magic. They have almost no known solvents, are chemically inert, and don't burn at any temperature, even in a pure oxygen atmosphere. This is pretty clearly the only grease to use. See this article. Nascar mechanics have found that Krytox grease can reduce the temperature of spline joints on drive shafts by 150°. Also, this stuff lasts forever. It is, unfortunately, quite expensive. Fuzzy

Need a poll for second gen rear shock

No problem so far - 2007 RSTD 13,500 miles. I am worried though. Fuzzy -
Reddog, it is good to know that there are still some kind and caring people in this old cruel world. No disrespect to anyone here, but there are so many people whom would have said, let him go and hope for the best. You did the right thing and even went beyond and took the time to try and teach him something. I believe you did. Good Job ....... Fuzzy :thumbsup2:

Your welcome. Glad I can now feel as if I have given back a little to the site/club. Fuzzy

Sorry to hear of this misfortune. Hope you get her fixed quick and up to snuff. Glad you are ok. However it does look to me like from what I have read here and from so many other threads and post, that by the time I have 100,000 miles on my bike, there will be no more Royal Stars left and everyone will be riding the Honda Gold-Wings. Yamaha has stopped making them and I will have to look for used parts. But on the other hand, if everyone buys Honda Gold-Wings then there would be lots of parts to spare. Freebird will change the name of the site to, Wingrider.com and the logo will be, " It is a wing, get out and fly with us." Fuzzy

Put each piece on e-bay one at a time and price them at auction start for $60.00. They will not last long and will bring decent moneys. Fuzzy

That would be neat. Like the idea. Thanks for posting this. Makes me want one of these. Would be a nice back and forth to work bike and then some roads here that I used to ride as a kid and still on my ATV. Mostly ATV roads now, but still ride-able on a bike like this. Fuzzy

Spark Plugs and Oil? for 08 Venture
FuzzyRSTD replied to Venture Rob's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
First from what I have found here, you must remove the tank and the dogbones. Change plugs every 25,000 or so and use the factory plugs. I just did a search for the plug change. As for the oil, some use different oil, but be very careful here as to your clutch and all work in this same oil. So for me, I am going to stick to the OEM oil 20w50 I believe it is. There are several good technical library articles and pictures for removing the tank for other things. If you do the plug change, you could add pictures and do an article yourself pertaining to changing the plugs. I can not find one here yet. I thought about this myself, but after looking at the change miles, I have 13,500 on my bike, but it is a 2007 model. So I might wait until this winter, the bike is running wonderful for me. I use a little (1 oz) Seafoam in the fuel at every full up and so far so good. If you do not ride every other day or so, I would highly recommend the Seafoam. Fuzzy PS; I also noticed you just joined, so welcome, and check out the Technical Library here. Others will help you out also. Some are busy out riding to and from Cody and so forth. -
I would assume it would be to cold. You might get some midday riding in, but once it starts into evening it would probably be to cold. I live in Kentucky and here Bow Deer season comes in 1st of September and I spend a lot of time in a tree stand all day. The first part of Sept. is usually pretty warm, but when you reach the middle of the month of Sept. it starts to cool fast of the evening. I also hunt in Ohio and can say that their temps are somewhat colder by around 10 degrees. So farther north toward Canada border would be another 10 degrees colder still. So I would come south middle in the month of Sept. and enjoy the Blue-ridge Parkway maybe and the Smokey Mountains, very good time to ride there. West Virgina mountains beautiful. I am sure some whom live in these northern parts will chime in here. Fuzzy

Need to Replace Electric Hot Water Heater-Opinions?
FuzzyRSTD replied to RSTDdog's topic in Watering Hole
That is exactly what I was thinking. The electric tankless are somewhat cheaper now than when they first came out. If you think of it, the tank heaters are keeping that water hot at all times. The tankless only heat what you need. A friend from the local channel CB here channel 23 we monitor. He did this about two yrs ago and says his electric bill dropped $50.00 per month. The water is set at a pre determined degree and you do not need to add cold water to it to get the right temperature when showering. You turn on the hot water and go. That is what he is doing, and he is one of those people who always unplug anything that is not being used. He loves to save that way. He said that the power company came and checked his meter to see if something was wrong with it. They did change it out and his bill was still the same. He said it was the tankless heater saving him so much money. Fuzzy -
Good advice for all to follow, two or twenty.

Sorry to hear about your friend Flyinfool. I used to go short trips on hot days without the helmet but no more. I was at the Emergency Room in Lexington,Ky UK hospital with my Mother In Law and while there the EMT brought in a motorcycle accident victim with head injuries. He was in really bad shape and talking out of his head. I later that night talked to the group he was with and they told me what happened. He wrecked in a twisty at around no more than 35 mile an hour they said, and he was not wearing his helmet. All his injury was to his head. From that day forward I promised my wife that I would always wear my helmet. I wear a shorty helmet always in hot weather and have a full face for cooler weather. Again, I am sorry to hear of your friend's loss... Fuzzy -
You got that right. I am seeing the same problems in our trucks at work, the newer trucks. We have had to have some extra training on the procedures for the emissions systems and so forth. The orange lights and the red lights and the green lights. Our trucks are sometimes used at slow speeds when potholing during summer and using sweeper brooms(5 MPH). Then in winter we are plowing snow and ice and salting at some times very slow speeds and never over 35 MPH or so. I use an older tandem, it has it's problems and sometimes I wish they would hurry and get my promised new truck, but then after some of the problems I see them having, I have second thoughts. Fuzzy
