I agree 100% and would recommend Avon Venoms for your bike. I have them and love the feel and handling, Bigg Difference. Fuzzy -
DogBones on engine????
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yep, looks like I missed it. I thought I had, but I am kinda funny that way. I just wanted to find it and look upon it myself. Blue loctite, Roger That. James -
Does anyone know the actual name and part number for what we call the dogbones on the engine. The pieces that have to be taken off to replace the spark plugs. I torqued mine at 30 lb, but do not know for sure if that is right. For I do not know the actual name of the part and have not found it on the schematic here. Thanks, Fuzzy

Good for you. A very great accomplishment. That is a lot of weight to get rid of. Hope you make your desired weight and your good work has inspired me as well. Keep it up my friend. :thumbsup2: :clap2: Fuzzy

Thanks Mike. I did not really see a big difference in the bike sitting there and applying pressure, but I do want to say they seemed more solid. Take care my friends. James

Thanks RSTDdog, I did torque them at 30 lb. I could not find the correct torque on these in the Freebird torque sheets. Are you sure about the torque ? I thought I put them back very close to the way they came off though. Felt really tight at 30 lb., I was afraid of damaging the aluminum jugs. I really do not know what the dog bones are called on the torque sheets. It will be a while RSTDdog to get any more information from me. I still can not ride until I have left shoulder surgery next week Friday. Then 3 - 6 months recovery, soooooo. I am really sick at all the bikes on the road today and I can not go and ride until this is over. Fuzzy:thumbsup2:

I think there is a time interval that the manufacture recommends to replace the brake/clutch lines Phoneman, but can not remember the miles. But I figured whiles doing this Flanders bar upgrade and I ended up with enough monies from the tax return this year, I would just go ahead and get-R-done. My bike has 35,000 on it and the clutch fluid was kinda dark. So that was another factor. You know as easy as the clutch fluid was, I am going to start changing it at least once a year. I used the small aquarium clear hose from wall-mart to go over the bleeders. Just put you a good set of needle nose pliers in the end and twist and put some pressure out as you do, works very well. Good idea to take left side bag off as well before you start. Take tank off also, and might as well have a new set of plugs to go in. If you have never done your antifreeze, then I would recommend that to at the same time. You could just take off the crowling and you already have the tank off. I think Goose has a good write up on that. I might have posted about that some where to when I did mine, not that bad a job. Make sure you get the correct antifreeze. Fuzzy

Well I ordered the SS brake lines and Flanders bars from http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ and installed all today. Thanks to all the help here and especially my brother Chris. We worked on this all day, from about 7 AM until 10 PM tonight. We did take a few brakes and ate three good meals today that my wonderful wife cooked up. We did all the front and rear brake lines, clutch line, and throttle upgrade. Everything has new Dot 4 fluid and no air. I removed the tank, so I decided that before we put the tank back on, it would be good to go ahead and install the new plugs (NGK DPRea8-9). So we did after removing the dog bones. The plugs gap at 30-35. I put them on 32. The plugs torque at 13 lb each also. So for those inclined to do the SS line upgrade. Would I recommend this as a do it yourself job ? Yes, for those somewhat mechanically inclined. You should plan on a good all day to do it all. I still have to button up a few things, and put all the tools back up. The SS lines will adjust somewhat at the connections and there is a tool included to do this. I would recommend you use plastic garbage bags to cover everything up so the brake fluid does not harm your paint. Fuzzy

Dan I feel for you neighbor. I thought I would check in on the garage and found people talking about the 500 posts to this thread. Wow with all the good weather this winter Dan, I just can not believe that garage is not done yet. I am still hanging in there for you though. Good luck my patient friend. I guess I do not have your patience. I called the Workers Comp people about two weeks ago and ask if a check had been mailed to Frankfort for me yet. They replied that yes finally a check had been mailed since the 5 weeks I have been off work. Then a week later I called Frankfort to hear what they had to say because my check was not in the mail yet. Well then three days later I ask them if it had been mailed out yet and their reply was that the lady whom does this has been off work. So I ask to speak to the office manager. I told him that it was high time that someone would take hold of the rings and get things started. I told him that since the check had been there for the week and three days, that they had time to eat it and digest it and put it back together and still have it to me quicker than that. Two days later the check was at the post office and I had to go over and sign it for they sent it certified. I filled the information and signed the check and sent it back to them certified. So that is how the system works. By the way it cost me $5.30 cents to send that envelope certified. Since then when I call the workers comp people or Frankfort main office of Transportation, I ask for the manager. I told them that they are not dealing with a up the holler hillbilly here, but a Hillbilly in fact and that I meant business and that I expected more response and no disrespect, just as I have not treated them with any disrespect. OK, I am off my high horse now. Hope you get that aggravating garage done soon. Ranting Fuzzy .

Now that just ain't right, true, but that ain't right. Take care Randy, hope you all fair well. They are saying you are in for some bad weather. The storms are supposed to pick up some strength from the warmer air down that way. It has been rough here. We have Easter flowers already blooming here, unusual. Fuzzy

Gone from our area now. It has been a rough one though. Tornadoes close to us here. Watching some nasty stuff on TV now. West Liberty got hit again. I heard that Morehead, Ky got hit by a tornado . No damage here but sightings and pictures of tornadoes here next to the Carter Caves area. Take care folks and be careful. Called and checked on all my family, thank God everyone is OK and no real damage. The news is saying most severe weather over our area in 25 years. Fuzzy

Very nice...... We all can learn a lot from Gods creations, just take time to stop and watch, feel, smell. That is what life is really all about. I love the different smells when I am riding my bike and all the beautiful scenery, the wild life. Then there is that dreaded smell also, when you come upon that dead animal or polecat. Shewwww Weeee !!! But I love it all. Fuzzy

Flanders Handlebars with cables ?
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thanks to everyone for your help. It is so nice to be able to ask for help and get it. I expected no less, and I am so grateful to all. I love this site and all the useful information here. Been here since May - 2008 and I expect to stay. The information is so nice, and then, "the icing on the cake", is you all. Your thoughtfulness and good deeds. I will always be grateful to Don (Freebird) and all the moderators and their hard work. This may not have seemed like much to ask of you all. But I was so humiliated over not being able to find the site for the handle bars. Thanks again. I will call and place the order tomorrow. Grateful Fuzzy :thumbsup2::thumbsup2: -
Flanders Handlebars with cables ?
FuzzyRSTD replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thank you,Thank you, Thank you Gary. This is it. I tried to save the site again and saw that it already was saved and so I renamed it for future reference. This is it exactly. I will be ordering these and the brake/clutch lines upgrade also. I will be using the great thread that someone had here. It is perfect to do this job. My friend JD Holbrooks is going to give me a hand, since I can only use one of my own for now. Doctor says very possible rotor cup tare, or tendon tare. I hope not. MRI x-ray in next few weeks. Off work for another 6 weeks. Fuzzy -
Someone once gave me this information once, or I found it, and now I have miss placed it or deleted it by accident. I know I saved it somewhere. I need the 650-08783 Flanders Bars with the cables deal pacifically for our bikes. Sorry, but I have looked for two hours and I give up. Thank you for your help. Fuzzy :smash2:
