  1. Hey, Al......wassup? I, too have been riding since just out of diapers.......and I also have a Midnight.....an '03......and it's giving me a little grief, I think mostly because of some accessories that the first owner added. I blew a couple of fuses recently, due, I believe to some wires shorting out under the seat. (Not sure if these ran from the theft alarm, running lights or trunk light.....but, in any case, I'm now faced with a stop light that is always on. Have you (or anyone else) experienced this problem before? I can hear the little solenoid, down by the brake pedal, clicking when either front or rear brake is applied, but the light stays on regardless. Is it possible that this solenoid clicks even though it may be faulty? Any ideas? Thanks for all input. Cheers, Mike
  2. Thanks, buddy. That's quite the download. All I have to do now is hook the laptop up to my video projector, point it at the wall of the garage......and I've got a great shop guide! (Maybe a fresh coat of white paint to help the resolution... :-) Thanks again, Mike
  3. Thanks for the tip on the tech section, Rick; is there an actual manual online....or just a whole lotta posts on random subjects? I don't really see anything referred to as a manual. If you could point me that would be great. Also, appreciate your comment about warranty, but since the problem I've got I suspect was caused by the previous owner's jerking around with wiring while installing lights and alarms, I doubt I'm covered. (I believe my warranty DOES have a month left.....but not likely for this, as I say.) And, Don, thanks for the heads up on which manual to look for. The model proliferation of Yamaha's Royal/Star/Midnight/Venture/Royale/Road Star/V Star/etc, etc, etc still has me a little confused. For example, my 'handbook' that came with the bike has both XZV13TFR and XVZ13TFSR on the cover. The difference being..........?
  4. Anybody got any ideas about what manual might be best to use when tackling my electrical problems? I've been on the Clymer website, where I see "Yamaha Royal Star, 1996-2003" Will this one do the trick? Or should I be looking for something that says "Venture"? Thanks for any help. mike
  5. Thanks, squidley, sleeper and brad. I notice a couple of references to battery. Is the whole system that delicate that a low battery would kill all these auxilliary systems? ( I DID leave my radio on and flatten the battery last year......but, I've been out many times since then.) As I recall on my second to last ride last Fall, the passing lamps being intermittent was the first of my multiple electrical failures; then the speedo started appearing/disappearing....then the signals. It was a bizarre mix that prompted me to put the beast in the garage way too prematurely. Now I'm at the point where I'm not too enthused about trying to get it out. The rain doesn't help, of course, and I hate to sound like a whiner.....but, there's nothing worse than having electricals....unless of course it carburation!!! OK, no more crying....I'm heading out to the shop to tackle this sum*****. Brad, I'm in St. Catharines.....the banana, er rather the grape belt! I'll get back to you guys as I progress.......or start going psycho!!
  6. This is about the worst electrics problem I've ever seen. No lights, signals, gas guage, speedo..........NOTHING on my 2003 Midnight Venture. Any ideas where to start looking? The manual (the cheapy little user one, not the shop jobby) refers to three fuse boxes: the "main" one, number 1.....and number 2. Are there really 3? Should I be checking fuses......or go straight to looking for burned/disconnected wires? The previous owners DID do a fair bit of fooling around: passing lights...LED's...alarm.....etc. Any thoughts GREATLY appreciated! Mike
