  1. I'm with you. Anybody who checks their tire pressure daily.........a) is just asking for arthritis or hemorrhoids or somethin.......or, b) has a permanent "kneeling pad" built into the floor near their rear tire.
  2. Agreed, Kev. I picked up some stainless washers at a nut and bolt supply house and actually had 8 rubber washers custom cut (for 25 cents each if you can believe it) at another local shop. Fit like a dream......looks amazing........solid as a rock. (I can practically lift the back end off the ground with the rack! OK....that's stretching it a BIT, but not by much! :-)
  3. Thanks, buddy! Finally noticed that from a drawing somewhere. All I gotta do now is McGiver a pair of circlip pliers out of a paperclip. LOL! For lube.......I'm just gonna slap some Moly on everything that looks shiny......or black. :-)
  4. Tell me Michael........is there some reason you're NOT calling a lawyer and getting him to coerce the kid and his dad into doing the RIGHT thing? Just because you hire a lawyer doesn't mean you have to go to court. He'll just get you the money you deserve from these two scumbags........including enough to pay his own fee....which should be small, based on how little it would likely take to get "justice."
  5. OK......I mooched a 1 1/16 open end from a buddy.......got the axle nut undone, got the wheel off. Now how do I get that hub with the fingers on it out of the wheel? And, should those fingers really be lubricated, as somebody said?
  6. Just got to the point where I need the wrench to undo my rear axle nut. There's ONE BIG box wrench that comes in the bike's stock "tool kit".....(and, yes, I use the term lightly).......but, if there were gonna be one big wrench in there, doncha think it would be the 27 mm that fits the rear axle..........instead of the 24mm that fits...........WTF?
  7. Called a lawyer yet? Trust me, one of these days................soon..........y'er gonna say to yourself: "Gee, why didn't I call a lawyer." I'm not trying to be a smart-ass or a know-it-all.........but.......do you have a good reason for NOT calling a lawyer? You don't HAVE to go to court just because you've got a professional on your side. Usually, they're pretty good as scarin' the crap right outta people......and making them do what they know they SHOULDA done in the first place. Just sayin.
  8. Michael.......call me an OPTIMIST......but, I think the ball is (and should be) in YOUR court! I Googled "contingency lawyers in Omaha" and came up with this gentleman: Law Office of Alan D. Martin1913 Farnam Street--Suite B Omaha, NE 68102 USA Telephone: (402) 980-2200 Cell: (402) 980-2200 Fax: (888) 250-5855 "Contingency" means "they don't charge you unless they WIN". And when he wins, of course, you can PAY him out of the "winnings". It's a NO LOSE situation. Pretty sure Attorney Martin's ad also said "free consultation". Give him a call. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain. MY experience......and I've had lots in the legal arena.....is, the first guy with a lawyer in the game often stands the best chance of coming out ahead. Call now! (Before your nice purple leg/evidence goes away!!!) Seriously, buddy, go do it! It won't cost you a thing to check it out! By the way..........no offense to all the other well-intentioned guys on this thread who are giving you advice about the nuts and bolts on your bike..........but, you FIRST and ONLY concern right now should be to put the liability for this crash firmly on the shoulders of that kid who screwed up and INJURED you, put your life in danger, caused you mental anguish and put you in a bad light in th eyes of your insurer, your employer, your friends and your family. Forget about the bike and get a good BULLDOG lawyer on this case before it gets "cold". Here's a link to Lawyer Martin's link on the Legal Information Institute page: https://lawyers.law.cornell.edu/lawyer/alan-david-martin-738773
  9. Maybe what you wanna do (instead of or in addition to polling the neighbours) is go to the kid's employer.....tell them you're working along with the police (not untrue) to help clarify some details about an accident that one of their delivery boys was involved in the other night. Ask them WHO had a food order delivered to them at that approximate location that night. (They should have a record of the order with an address). The customer who ordered the food may not know anything about or have seen anything relating to the crash......but at least your knowing the EXACT HOUSE the kid delivered to might add some clarity to what his probable actions behind the wheel were that night! Get the address.....map it out with your mental picture of who was where/when and doing what........and make it into a little narrative/story that works to YOUR best advantage. Keep pluggin away, kiddo. Don't let the b**tards grind you down!
  10. Hey, Michael! A little update on the info from one of my other copper buds: He says that in some jurisdictions in the US (namely Florida for sure is the one he referred to specifically) it IS the responsibility of an "overtaking" driver to not hit someone driving/turning in front of them.......even if/when it appears (to all sensible folks) that the "turning vehicle" should be "making sure" things are safe before he changes direction. This is, of course, contrary to what I told you about Ontario Canada (and many US States) laws where the driver CHANGING DIRECTION is ALWAYS at fault. So, you'll wanna check that fine detail in the Nebraska Highway Traffic Act/Code and see WHO HAS responsibility in a case like that. The other, even FINER point on this "might" hinge entirely on whether or not the kid WAS moving down the road......that is....."under way" before you two collided......vs him just PULLING OUT. That might be "where the rubber meets the road" as far as attributing blame goes. (Your story may have to be "adjusted accordingly".......as it appears the kid is doing every half hour or so!!) Anybody on this forum familiar with that aspect of the traffic code in this state.....or any other state? (SOMEbody must have gotten clocked in a situation like this before?? Who was blamed? Prairiehammer.......how about you? I can't remember the EXACT details of your mishap, but it was a car making an illegal move, wasn't it?)
  11. Hey, Carl......thanks for doing the "research". You ARE looking at a Gen 2 manual, right? Two hours to R/R a gas tank seems OVERLY generous. I'm sure I've had mine off in 20 minutes.
  12. Fight fire WITH fire, Michael. If that little weasel of a kid starts bull****ting about what lane you were in.....request that the coppers go back out to the scene (with whoever else, presumably the kid, wants to tag along) and have the cop reconstruct the scene and the movement of vehicles (my Ontario copper buddy specializes in this and developed a little hand-held device to simulate vehicle movement in crash scenarios.....but your situation should be a simple "drawing on paper" of what happened.) EVEN IF you DID move somewhat into the other lane.........EVEN IF.....(and he'll never prove that)......you would have done it trying to AVOID HIM......because he was making an unsignalled turn.....(he didn't signal, right....he has NO PROOF of that.....your word against HIS). Even if he DID signal, he didn't check to make sure the way was clear.......OBVIOUSLY, or you wouldn't have been hit. This kid is a lying little ****....and it's gonna come back on him!! Like I said on the phone....and in my PM.....don't take any crap from any of these guys. Just calmly say "My attorney will be in touch."........and then.........HAVE YOUR ATTORNEY GET IN TOUCH!!
  13. This kid isn't YOUR nephew, is he? (Just wondering why you're being so nice to him at YOUR expense.) I could understand that he might be the COPPER'S nephew.....what with getting off Scott-free and all!
  14. Not entirely correct.........there's LOTS your ins agent can do (IF he wants to keep you as a customer).....including contacting the police to ask why the other driver wasn't charged in such a blatant case of unsafe driving......AND chasing down the offending driver like a dog in the street to get HIS insurance information and filing a claim against his insurer. I'm curious why "we" aren't proceeding full tilt against this kid.........unless WE were under the influence, or some other "mitigating" factor?!?!
  15. Hey, buddy.... Were you drunk at the time? Unless you were.....there's no way this kid should not have been charged. Call me immediately at 905-938-3553.......Your leg and your financial future could depend on this. Do you have an incident # or police report for a motor vehicle collision? Go to the hospital NOW and have your leg checked out........and call and have police respond again at hospital. Did you identify that you have a personal injury at the scene? Doesn't matter.......do it now......at the hospital. If you don't want to spend the money calling me.........send me your ph number in a private message and I'll call you and give you blow by blow instructions on what to do. Michael
  16. Yes...but was it even "too fair"?? Carl says 2.38 hours wasn't long enough........and I was sort of expecting to see some notes attached to the invoice, but there were none. I'll phone and question the mechanic...as a couple of guys have suggested. Re: Plugs - can't remember if the service "intake" guy asked me about doing plugs; either way, I would have said "no thanks" though, having done them myself last year. Re: Coolant - "1.89L of Prestone Premix Coolant" (at $14.95) didn't sound like enough to me. (And it is shown as "pre-mix" on the bill, which, as Du-Rron says sounds a little shy, quantity-wise.) And, WHY the weird quantity? Is that a FULL, standard size, retail container? My metric convertor says 1.89L equals 1.6629 Imperial qts......or 1.997141 US qts. Does this stuff come in 2 US quart bottles? Re: The Mechanic - Agreed! The dealer might be good, bad or indifferent...it's the mechanic who counts. (Although in our collective decades of dealing with retailers, I think we'd all agree that either "Great customer service" or alternatively a "screw the customer" mentality has a tendency to be established "at the top"....and trickle down from there!) Mileage? 36,005 (57,946 kilometres)
  17. That's a great question.......especially if they ABSOLUTELY.....POSITIVELY.....HAD TO put in new ones in order to perform the job. Would they have? (because they didn't itemize them on the invoice. But I guess if challenged on that, their best defense would be that they "threw them in".)
  18. I hesitate to say that I don't trust "my" dealer (I use quotes because I didn't buy my second-hand Venture from him).....but, when I picked up my bike last week after (ostensibly) having my valve shims checked/adjusted.....I was met with a $251 invoice and a cheery....."They didn't have to replace any of the shims; they were all within tolerance". That verbal explanation, plus the notes on the bill that they performed 2.38 hours of shop labour and used 1.89 liters of antifreeze were the only indications that ANYTHING had been "done" to my bike. So......(forgive my basic paranoid/schizophrenic nature......I must have been terrorized as a child)........how would I REALLY know if my shims were/are "within tolerance"??? Or, is THIS the reason you guys who do them yourselves........DO THEM YOURSELVES??????? Also, and I know this is by far the less serious of the potential two evils, does 1.89 liters of coolant sound like the amount the would have replaced had they done nothing BUT the shims......or is it the amount they would have used had they done what I asked, which was....."While you're in there doing the shims, would you please pop any drain plugs that are 'handy' so we can refresh as much of the coolant as possible....without starting a work order". Just curious. (And, yes, I know, I should be TRYING to develop some level of trust for this guy, but when my left fairing is covered in grease and the little quick fastener that holds both "cowlings" together at the bottom is missing.......I get the feeling HE'S not trying any harder that I am to develop the relationship!)
  19. Go get Hagon'ed up and report back here! :-)
  20. Good on ya, Skeeter. I'm sure you'll find it makes a world of difference.
  21. I BET you DO!! The lowest quote I've gotten so far is $37 each!!
  22. Somewhat agree with both YOUR comment and midnightrider1300's........but, it DOES depend a little on exactly WHO is paying the money and WHO is taking the chances. Sort of like those skiers or mountain climbers getting lost or stranded in the mountains......then requiring a MILLION dollar helicopter evac mission to save them. If we started sending them the bill........there'd be a lot fewer millionaires skiing out of bounds.....and going in anywhere without an exit plan. On the gov't being involved side of things......if there's much of a track record, like people building houses on a flood plain.....OR in a tornado alley.....I think it makes all kinds of sense to restrict construction. They DO it in some areas......just not enough apparently. (There's always that 20/20 hindsight factor that makes us wonder! :-)
