Jerry, Here's another web site where they have cut open several filters. It's a site that's been around a while, but still has some good information. http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/FilterStudy.html As for the Wal-Mart filter 7317. I had heard that someone besides Champion was making their filters. So I went to a Wal-Mart and had them pull it up on their computer as to who was there supplier and it still shows Champion. I did see this on their computer screen myself. I have been using this filter since I heard of it on this site with no problems. Thats been over 2 years now. I believe I paid around $2.67 for the last one. Where as the same one in Fram was around $5 or $6 if I remember correctly. Charles

I think if you push the issue your dealer will replace the clutch basket. Too many are still getting it done under warranty as we speak. Even the local stealer here is still doing it under warranty. But beware it may only move the whine to a different RPM. Mine was change a couple of years ago. It did get quieter, but Still can hear it. Just my

Folding backrest for stock seats?
Obber replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Might try these sites. http://www.scootworks.com/shop.cgi/page=partsyambackrest.htm/SID=PUT_SID_HERE http://www.ceebaileys.com/bakup/yamabakup.html http://firehousecustoms.com/yamrsv.htm This one is cheaper. http://store.valueaccessories.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=1210 http://www.utpr.com/rsv.html Good price. Myself I have the one from Diamond R. Have been very satisfied with it. It's been on my bike since August 04. -

Unfortunately his trunk actually has chunks missing on the bottom where it's suppose to bolt on. He did come up with a pretty good fix. He cut out a plate of aluminum to fit the bottom of the trunk and plans to cut one to fit on the inside. The biggest problem with the trunk is the custom paint job, plus it has a built in brake light. I put a picture of the bike below that I took last year at a Metric show the local dealer was having. You can see where the previous owner put the turn signals in the faring. He also did the same to the rear end. By putting the a brake light and turn signal in each saddle bag and a 3rd brake light in the trunk he was able to get rid of the original turn signals & brake light. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of the back side. I'll try to remember to take the camera with me the next time I go by his house, and get a shot of the rear. Pretty cool how it's done.

:sign67:Does anyone have a copy of the recall on the lower trunk for the RSV? I believe it covered 1999, 2000, maybe even 2001. One of our new members(KinkyWinks) that just lives down the street from me bought a 1999 RSV. I know it will be a long shot at best to get Yamaha to do anything about this since it's long out of warranty. But if he has the bulletin number or copy of the offical recall. He might get lucky. Thanks in advance for any help on this subject. Charles

Found this on Ebay; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STEBEL-NAUTILUS-BLACK-COMPACT-12-VOLT-139-DB-AIR-HORN_W0QQitemZ320138880239QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6779QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Or if you have a Harbor Freight around you they carry the black one. They put them on sale from time to time for $34.99. Thats where I got mine. Pictured below on the bike. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=94117

Rear Shocks goin bad.
Obber replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just saw this from you. Some reason I miss this way back in Nov. Go ahead you can give me the boot. I'm think it might have been the Internet. Anyway that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Just wondering if you ever got your shock? Charles -
Got mine from these people about this time last year. http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/default.asp Just looked they show a price of $368.14 :mo money:plus shipping. I believe this price is about $3.00 higher than I paid last year. Shipping cost me about $22.00 to Amarillo last year. I put mine on myself. Actual time for me to take off the old one and put the new one on was about 1 1/2 hours, and I don't clam to be anything but a shade tree mechanic at best. Little hard to get to the top bolt of the shock. You have to take both side of the passenger foot rest off and the black covers. But you don't have to remove the rear wheel nor the rear fender like some repair manuals state. Hardest thing was trying to find where to mount the overflow tube since there was not any instructions that came with the shock. Here is another thread that talked about shock options. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2614

Inexpensive Rear Spoiler with Build In LED lights
Obber replied to Obber's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
Don't know if these are the same bags. They are mounted on a v-star 650. The guy that owns the bike said he didn't have much problem mounting them. He also bought the trunk and LED trunk wing they sell. Thought I had a closer shot his bike.- 31 replies

So far it works great. The one I got was made for our RSV, they just don't have a picture on their site. Here is their phone # 1-800-572-8687. They even put it on for me since they were at the rally selling them. I did tighten it up some more afterwords. If I remember correctly they have one for the driver also if you are interested. I didn't need one due to already having one up front.

After I bought it Saturday (by the way, the vendor put it on for me) my fiancé bought a 32 oz drink and put it in it. We put 120 miles on the bike coming home. So far no problem. Pictures were taken after we got home.

Went to the 25th anniversary Muleshoe Roadriders Run Saturday and found a vendor that makes passenger and rider cup holders for out bikes. His web site is www.tourkingcovers.com. He does not show them on his web site but he does have them. I got one for the passenger and took some pictures. The cool thing they are $22.00 each for those who are watching their nickles & dimes.

Mine was doing this early spring of last year. Thought it might be the carbs were out sync. Fortunately it was still in warranty. Took to the Yamaha shop in Hurst, TX. Come to find out it was running too rich. They said the O2 levels were off. They checked the sync. of the carbs also, but said they were OK. Did all this under warranty.

Here is another site for tires. They don't have free shipping but depending on how close you are to them, with shipping, it might be cheaper.
