I asked in a post what this stuff was, so I gather it cleans out the carbs! I'll get some and put in 2 oz next tankful as I've never used it. The carbs were rebuilt by Squidley before he sold me t he bike, and I've added 21,000 on her, and she is now at 72,000. So how often should I do the 2 oz thing, and should I continue to do that through the winter, with fewer rides. I do ride in the winter here in CO, but not as often as otheerwise. Thanks. JackZ Ride to CO and I'll try to keep up with you at 70 with two new knees on my 86 VR! LOL Jack Tharp Fort Collins, CO aka DePreach: weddings, outside and motorcycle ones prerred! a question about being a passenger, for those that are.
Zfrebird4 replied to massey130's topic in Ladies Lair
Most of you won't read this as the post is so far back. I was riding with my two sons (3 bikes) and went by a road bike, and the lady on the back was just flipping a page over on a large book she was reading. While my older son was riding my first 86 VR and I was on the back, I took a nap, woke up and said, 'That was a great nap!''Son: 'you went to sleep back there?' Dad: 'What do you expect? It's a Venture!' Enjoy all. JackZ -
Uses too much gas.....

... Thankful that Lonna's Squidley redid the carbs before he sold me my 86. I did have them reset for Co, and now I get between a 42 and as high as 50, ... probably cause I just cruise around easy at my age. LOL JackZ -
Almost gone!

I think of doing what you said for the lights, but actually I think I'll leave them as they are, ... for added safety; they still help light the road very well. Thanks for installing them before selling them to me. Nope, would not use the artificial oil in an engine already on the real thing. Thanks for responding, and may you both be well! JackZ -
I can do a ride of 60 or 140 miles, park my 86 VR in the garage, not start her for about 2 or 3 days, then have a small puddle of about 3-4 drips. Found fluid on TOP of the bottom hose, but not on the ring coming out of the radiator; (don't know what to call THAT part; someone will probably suggest penis! LOL). Checked resovoure, and it was up ok. Ran in the normal heat range from FC to Estes Park and back, and no drip after the ride or 6 hrs later. Do I have a pressure problem, or something? Doubt it is the radiator, as I think Squidley serviced it before Lonna let him surrender her (the bike of course) to me in 06. Thanks for any wisdom! LOL. And wow, what a site this is, thanks to all of you. Jack Tharp Fort Collins, CO aka DePreach: weddings, outside and motorcycle ones prerred! Wot 80 mph???
Zfrebird4 replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hate to admit it, but when I first got Squidley's 86, I zipped out east on rt 14 from Fort Collins, CO., and took her up to 110 without a wabble. HOWEVER, that is not advised with the weight of this bike, wind factors unknown for that was, literally, in a desert, adn of course even the smallest marble could mess the whole deal up. I now just do 75 to 80 on cruise on interstate, and kind of putz otherwise. Great mileage putzing, ca 47 - 52, depending on wind, hills up, and weight on board. Love the bike though! Never got to that far down, but did get the ridges from riding low on air. I bought a $23 + tax air pump, with guage and lock down on the valve, and a spot light; total weight ca 3.5 lbs; and I use it every other week to check both tries. Not a problem. Good comments and topic folks! JackZ And I ride in any direction but up or down! LOL.

One benefit is the safety of full gear. I rode 20 miles with ice everywhere except in the main trough one time in W Co. Not again! And at 70 awith two new knees, I don't mind cool, but bone cold is just too much, not for this old guy, but for this wise older feller! JackZ But when I ride I do ride in any direction but down or up!

Love your sense of humor, the green for something different from 'Goldie.' My 86 VR looks like she is panting to be ridden when parked! I've put 23,000 on her since she came to me through some Venture rider friends. I am slightly the elder, at 70 with two new knees. Ride safe, stay happy and live long! My wrench has no idea how to find bug and rock protectors for the forks on my 86 VR. I've noticed some that appear to be ad ons on the second gens, but none on us first guys' bike. Any help will be appreciated! And Yep, I ride in all directions, up all the time these days! Jack Tharp Fort Collins, CO aka DePreach: for weddings, outdoor and motorcycle ones preferred! AND, NO FUNDI here; just well centered in my faith an on my 86 from Squidley! JZ

They are great on your former 86 Squidley, but the vibrate. I have two thought; helps folks see me coming better; second, probably could see better if the vibration was gone. Do I need to tighten them MORE, or do you have other suggestions. Big hi to Lonna; her back seat (and the whole seat) has been rebuilt, ... but is STILL virgin. Looking for a female rider in CO, ... single, too. Send me THAT part if you can! LOL. I have 73M on her now and still going. Can I add something for the slight leaks ont he valve covers, etc? Thanks. IT's been working fine with the original cloth (or whatever)cover gone, even in a heavy rain, but I've often thought I should glue something over the hole. Any ideas guys and ladies? Thanks! I have one but want a second one before I turn my wrench loose on the labor bill. CaptainKirk has one, but has not responded back to me yet. It's for an 84 and will cross over. Ya got one? Thansk. ... both of you. My only joy in meeting you both was when you handed the key to me to your 86 VR that you both spent so many loving and lovely miles on. Nothing could happen to a better man, with the BEST woman biker around behind him! However, be sure keep those adjustment wrenches handy for the HD! And of course, life's greatest joy would be to see you both on either again in Colorado. I am taking good care of your 86 VR, ... as long as I can ride at my young 70 years! And thanks for the post on the emerg switch for the flashers; I have one and am going for a second one before I turn my wrench loose on the labor bill to do a replacement! What year, and number, if other than what is shown on above site. I am having my wrench check to see if this, 83? will cross over; so hold onto it for a day for me. Please EM me at Zfrebird4@aol.com so I don't loose your contact. Price is certainly right! and I may have IMed you here twice. LOL Thanks for helping my parade and my ride! Unfortunately, I read nothing there for my Zfrebird4 above. It would be so neat, as I have to ride with a hearing aid on phone switch in my helmet to hear through the speakers. So a link to the cell phone would be great! Let me know folks if you find or hear of a way. Jack Tharp Zfrebird4 Ft Collins, CO

A year ago I had electronic air horns installed on my 86 VR. My wrench recommended PIAA by Power Sports Horn System. My wrench simply unplugged the originals, and installed these; he didn't even chare me labor. The cost was $99.95 for two. And folks really know I am around if they need too. In fact, I have to be careful and just use it lightly. Scared a pedesterian who thought she was near a semi. That's how well they work. The brochure says PO505-HORN P/S Manual: PIAA COrporation USA, 15370 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton, Org. Phone 503-643-7422; www.piaa.com I also ride with legal, small strobe lights on all they time; they are the kind the police use on the sides of their motorcyles, and yellow of course. They have multiple blinking settings by dropping and re using the negative, which I had installed on a switch. No one misses my new (Squidley's and Lanna's) Brown Venture now! Write me if you want info on the small (LED) strobes; they were $50 each 2 years ago from a cop shop. Z aka Jack Tharp Ft. Collilns, CO Where the sun DOES shine. LOL Hey, any direction as long as I can ride! JDT

Fort collins at UPump it (cheapest anywhere, cash or check) is now $3.21 for midgrade. Loveland, Longmont, Lyons are the same. Let's hope it continues to drop. Off in a few to the Mt. County roads, mid 50's, ca 7 mph wind, sunny blue skies. Of course, winter dress! Stay up all! Jack AKA Zfrebird DePreach:Venture:

I am looking for a bar strip that I found for my first 86VR that fits on the mirror. That way I knew rather exactly what the outside temp was to be allerted when it got close to freezing. Any clues from anyone would be appreciate. Jack Z Ft. Collins Home of Frebrd2
