Radio/CB/Comms Controller not coming on with key.
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
🤦♂️ I will feel extremely stupid if that works! But you live and you learn! This is my first RSV so I’m learning as I go. -
2008 Royal Star Venture (12k miles on odo). Bike is somewhat new to me and sat for 10 years in a garage. I’ve been fixing all the issues on it. Got it running and have the mechanical issues mostly worked out. As the title states the controller on my left handle bar is not coming on when I hit the key. Is there something I’m missing? Or is there a way to troubleshoot it? Can’t seem to find anything online about it. I also have a xm radio that doesn’t appear to have a power cable. So if anyone knows where I can purchase one of those and where to power it from would be great help as well.

Need help identifying a hose
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For the record it’s part of the air induction system. I also found one of the hoses that comes off the head was completely unplugged. Like clamp taken loose, hose pulled off and clamp put back in place… weird! Had to remove the radiator to repair both. Either way no more leaking. -
Need help identifying a hose

This is looking from the right in between the block and the radiator! -
Replaced exhaust pipe gaskets today and after finishing them I kept feeling exhaust blowing on my hand in front of the front 2 cylinders. (This is the reason i replaced the pipe gaskets.) I found a hole in the hose in the picture I circled. I have no idea what hose this is to order another one. It appears to be a rubber/composite hose. Anyone tell me what this part is called so I can order me a new one?

Carb leak help
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My head is a scary place too! lol Yes they are all plugged I checked them today. One of them the very end of the hose that is on it is cracked so I’m planning on replacing or shortening that hose tomorrow to get to noncracked line. I reseated all the carbs today. I loosened the bolts/nuts that hold the carbs together to make the carbs move semi-free of each other and reseated each individually. Seems to have helped bring the idle down a bit. I feel like a sync will correct the rest. My sync tool should be here tomorrow to get that done. The bike now runs on fuel from its own tank after a thorough cleaning and then another thorough cleaning and then another thorough cleaning after that and a replacement petcock… and of course as one should have expected based on what the petcock looked like the sending unit doesn’t work! Oil and filter changed, Front brakes bled through with fresh fluid. Clutch bled with new fluid (it was definitely low on fluid and had no tension on lever when I started that job), lever feels firm but bike stalls when I put it in gear and won’t start with clutch pulled in if bike is in gear so it isn’t right yet. Rear brakes are on the agenda for tomorrow as well. Considering this bike has been sitting since 2015 it has come a long way in the past 2 weeks I’ve owned it. -
Carb leak help

Not sure if my last quote went through so I’m redoing it. Throttle cables are good to go. Not tight, I’ve played with them several times to verify. Thumb wheel is backed off of the throttle linkage wheel where it’s supposed to touch. I will check the seating of the carbs again before I go any further and verify I got em set right. And yes they were a pain in the rear to get seated. -
Carb leak help
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
took the carbs on and off 4 or 5 times today. Found the main problem: one of the new needles has what I thought was a spec of metal in the rubber was actually the metal inside it sticking through the rubber causing the needle to not seat properly. Cleaned up one of the old needles and fixed that leak. Re-adjusted the floats again to verify they were right. And corrected to float bowl gasket on one bowl because it was pinched and leaking from there as well. No, external leaks now! Bike fires up and idles but it’s idling high. I know I still have to sync the carbs; will that help with the high idle? I’ve already checked the idle screw and it’s not currently touching at all. -
Carb leak help
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That’s the plan today. I’m going to remove the “T” fitting from between the carbs and run it to figure out which one is pushing fuel and then I’m going to disassemble again and check needle, valve and float. My guess is the float isnt floating as the needle and valve are new but until I open it back up I can’t be for sure. -

I’m sure that fitting is supposed to be attached to something but when I bought this bike it was not. However, if I’ve followed the carb section of the manual properly that’s a fuel overflow and it shouldn’t be leaking at all from there. But mine is coming out of the actual fitting itself where it’s not connected to anything. I’m thinking I’ve got a float not floating or stuck open, but I could be wrong. -
ok, someone help me figure out what I’ve done wrong… bike fires and runs on its own fuel now after 10 years of sitting in a garage and a carb cleaning and new kits. But I’m leaking fuel from the area in the picture below. Someone please help me figure out what I screwed up…

Carb parts question
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok, so went down to the local power sports place and asked the service manager if he had some old carbs on a shelf that they scavenge parts from. for a case of beer I walked out with an old Mikuni carb set that was not identical but mic’d the shaft and seal and they were the same! Now I’m back in business. now on to final adjustments of float height, air/fuel mix screws and verify I have the right jets in the right carb (as I found out they are different between carbs)… any tips would be greatly appreciated. -
Carb parts question
tex_waco_usmc replied to tex_waco_usmc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes it’s a bit of a project but as I can’t do much else it has worked out pretty good so far. Nothing but time on my hands to tinker with it. -
Just bought an 08 Royal Star Venture that has been sitting for almost 10 years in a shop. I needed something to keep my hands from being idle after a hernia surgery as I’m not allowed to lift anything heavy. My son is helping me when it comes to the lifting portion of the work. After fixing a wiring issue to regain spark (someone had cut the wires to the lean/crash sensor) I was able to hear her come to life on ether. But, carbs obviously needed rebuilt and fuel system cleaned. I bought the kits and tore down, Sonic bath and rebuilt with new parts. The kits didn’t come with the throttle shaft seals. This wasn’t a problem on any but the last one because the seals were in good shape. I’ve searched and searched and can’t find a listing for the throttle shaft seal. Does anyone know where I can get one or a pair of these seals? Not my first rodeo turning wrenches, however, I will admit it has been a while on a bike.
