Tank sticker?
Reshired replied to Principal's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
That was probably the first thing I did after taking my new RSTD home. I have no idea why they put that stupid sticker on in the first place. -
New Member, Oil change question
Reshired replied to Racso's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Only one bolt on the bottom. One 17mm wrench can both remove that bolt and the K&N filter. Refill with 3 and a half quarts of oil. I know the book says 3.9 but that is too much. I use Moble one 4T oil in my 08 RSTD. Nice bike! Enjoy! -

I have heard that jetting is needed if you install the bub complete system, but not with just slip ons. Here is a site to buy parts if that is what the OP is asking for. http://www.motorcyclecarbs.com/Mikuni_Carburetors_and_Parts_C6.cfm

Yes, I have the foam liner but it needs to be a little thicker. I was thinking maybe a carpet pad and /or a piece of carpet.

I have 424 nasty boys but it got hot even when the pipes were stock. It helps if you have something cold to put something in between like a shirt or box of whatever you have that it will not matter.
-
I have noticed the Saddle bags get really hot due to being close to the pipes. If I were to go to the grocery and get anything cold or produce, it would heat it up if I left it there very long. Has any one installed heat shields under their bags or any mods to fix this? I was even thinking of venting the bags along with a heat shield of somekind.

Sick of RSTD Handlebars
Reshired replied to rynorris's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The handlebars are one of the things I want to replace one of these days, but would like a thicker bar that has the wires on the inside. I don't know if they make fat bars for the RSTD. I also have problems with pain in the back of my neck after a couple of hours. I am not sure what to do about that. -
Sound system squeal
Reshired replied to grichey56's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Maybe you should post this on the venture forum. This is the Tour Deluxe forum. No one here knows any thing about radios. -
I am also still waiting. I ordered early last month and it is supposed to arrive next week. I am also still waiting for my Barons 4-2-4's that I ordered the 10th. This is getting old.

Reading from the owners Manuel; Page 6-14 oil quantity Without oil cartridge replacement:3.50L(3.70 US qt) With oil cartridge replacement: 3.70 L(3.91 US qt)

I added the quote in the OP. He says it would run down the left side carbs, and said nothing of fowling the plugs. The level I currently have is right at the top mark with a bubble visible above it. It was on a MC jack which held it straight up.
-
Sounds like this Could be related to the person I read in another thread that hacked off their Heal shifter because their pants leg got caught in it and they dropped their bike and had to have some one pick it up off of them.
-
Most of us know what the owners manuel says but someone I respect said that it was wrong and that you should put only 3.3-3.5 quarts of oil back in after a change with the oil and filter. He said you fill to the lower mark, not the upper mark. I just wanted to start this thread to see what every one else does. I filled mine to the upper mark which was 3.9 quarts like the book says. Here is his quote on the matter: I am just searching for the truth on the matter.

Any one that has gotten the ride like a pro video will tell you that the techniques they teach you will wear out a rear brake quickly. I talked to a cop recently and the city of Greenville had just put a Cop threw the cop course and he mentioned that they had to replace the clutch and rear brake from what they do. Lots of practice in the friction zone. I just replaced the rear brake pads on my Harley last week.

I here you Brother! Just when you think you are back a group of croch rockets zoom past me and I start to want to chase them and say Na Ill just stick to my 70-80 cruise. They are probably saying to each other, Did you see that Geezer on that big blue boat?
-
What are they there for? I heard somewhere that they were weights for balance. I was riding today and think I figured it out. While you are cruising with the cruise on just slide your hands to the end over those tips and it is like having risers or extensions. It takes lots of pressure off he shoulders and more relaxing. On long trips you can do this and not have the stabbing pain between your shoulders.

By the way I gave the Harley to my wife and she is an all toe shifter and so far I can not talk her into learning to use the heal, even though her new riding boots have a permanent mark on the toe.
-
Just read this thread and find it one of the most entertaining threads on the forum. I fall in the group that did not use it till I forced myself to use it. It took a while but I have no desire to go back to toe upshifting which requires about twice as much effort as the heal. My feet are 13-14 depending on which shoes I put on and have never felt crowded or that the floorboard is too small. I learned on my Heritage softail which has a smaller floorboard and a lot further back than my TD. I have more problems with the brake side on the Harley because being 6'3" I have to lift my whole foot to use the rear brake. My TD is further forward and just right.

By the way, WOW the difference is amazing. The bike seems to run better and without all that popping on decel, much more enjoyable to ride.
-
I also did not plug the rear at the reed valve on the right side. I took another method that was posted and plugged it at the other end of that 1 inch hose, on the left side of the bike. It is attached to a small black breather box that has two bolts that hold it on. I had to remove the box to fish out the plug from it and redo it. Hind site being 20/20, that seems to be the best way to do it. remove the box, plug it with rubber stopper and electrical tape and reinstall it. Same with the front side, remove the box, plug it the same way and re install it. 2 bolts as well. Both front and rear can be done a lot easier from the left side with the bike jacked up.
-
I did not say that. All the tape is under the hose and clamp carefully not showing any evidence of anything being altered. (warranty issues).
-
If I wrap the plug then stick it in the metal pipe, then I put a couple of wraps over that. On top of the whole thing goes the rubber hose and clamp. How is the tape under all that hose going to come off? It is not even visible under the hose and clamp. I do not think it gets that hot or they would not recommend a rubber stopper.
