  1. Hi to all, I recently cheeped out and bought a battery from Advance Auto parts with a copon I got in the mail for my 87' VR. (total cost: $28.00) When I went to remove the old battery the resistor that goes to the plug for the battery fell apart in my hand! The plug into the battery is good and the wire to the resistor is still there. Now with the new battery I get the dredded "Battery Fluid Low" Icon on the dash. Lonestarmedic was kind enough to send me the post on removing the battery fluid low resistor out of the electrical system but I am thinking that since I still have a "wetcell" battery, the sensor would be a good thing. Does anyone know what size/value resistor goes in this circut so I can replace it? Or does anyone have the entire plug/ resistor line that they would like to sell? When Jean and I go for a ride, she keeps looking over my sholder and says... whats wrong with the battery, didn't you just replace it? (like 43 times!) Thanks in advance for any light anyone might be able to shed on this problem. Earl and Jean
  2. Hi Cinderella and Dale, When I had my RC surgery a few years ago, It too was a workmans Comp. affair. They tried to rush me back to work for "light duty". My job doesn't have much light duty to it so What I told my doctor was without the use of my right arm, and taking the pain meds,I don't feel I can operate my auto safely, He wrote a letter to my employer, they let me stay home for 9 weeks. I'm not sure what Dale does for a living, but you might try the above suggestion. During the time I was off, I pushed myself to exercise my arm to get my range of motion back, and I have to admit, after the surgery my arm works better now than it did before. I didn't even realize how the injury had affected my quality of life. As I remember, at 10 weeks I took my VR for a few short rides, I found that the handlebars raised my arms to a level which caused a fair amount of pain. but after a few weeks, it got better and I would tell Jean that the riding was therapy...Yea right! Even to this day, before it rains, or gets cold or wet, my arm lets me know if the weather is going to change for the worse. Jean for sure suffered the worse during the whole recovery what with all of the pillow fluffing, coffee refills, etc...hahaha! Sleeping was the hardest byfar, Jean would find me in the morning, contorted on the couch, in my lazyboy, but whatever position Dale can get into, for whatever time he remains comfortable, don't be embarassed, just do it! Dale and you will be in our prayers for a speedy recovery. Earl and Jean.
  3. Try taking some toothpaste,(without the crunchy crystals in it) thin it with water, rub it on with a cotton cloth, briskly, then buff it dry. Make sure it's thinned with water. I've even used this on those cheap plastic lenses that pass for headlights these days. Earl.
  4. Has anyone actually Put Seafoam in there engine oil and lived to tell the tale? I have an 87' VR with 72,000 plus miles on it and was wondering if this would do the clutch any harm? How long do you run the engine before you change oil and do you just let the bike idle or do you take it for a ride? :confused24:I have always been really good about changing the oil and filter but with 72k I'm sure there are some deposits lurking in the engine crankcase to be removed, If this actually works, I would be willing to give it a shot. Oh, by the way, I have used the Seafoam in my gas tank quite a few times and never changed my oil change schedule because of the Seafoam. Earl
  5. Congrats guys! Many hands make light work! (zzzzzzzzz.....is that you Don!?!?) Earl and Jean.
  6. Gee Guys, I apologize for not meeting up with you this morning, I left out early, (no GPS on this old girl!) and was about 50 miles out of Altoona when I hit a pothole in the road and the bike died. I pulled off the false tank cover because I have had trouble with the fuse block before and much to my suprize 4 of the 6 fuses dropped out on the ground! It seems the little fuse clips broke when the bike hit the pothole. A call to my brother and a trailer ride back to Duncansville later, I now have a bike that won't run. Again, I am very sorry I missed the great ride and hope to make it up to you Cecdoo and Roy. Cecdoo, did you mention a maint. day in the near future? Is it in Pa.? Please don't give up on me yet guys! Earl
  7. Would that make it a "Duckski"!?!?
  8. Boy Tool, That unit would make a GREAT sidecar on a VR!!:rotf: Earl
  9. HEY DON, HOW ABOUT IF WE GUESS WHAT STATE, REIGEON, COUNTRY THE 5,000TH MEMBER IS FROM? THIS WOULD BE PRETTY STRAIT FORWARD AND YOU WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH TIME ZONES ETC. JUST A THOUGHT. EARL
  10. HI THERE, THERE ARE THREE LINES THAT LEAD FROM THE REAR MASTER CYL. THE FIRST IS THE BRAKE LINE THAT GOES TO THE REAR CALIPER. THE SECOND WHICH IS SHORTER IS THE ONE THAT GOES TO THE FRONT LEFT CALIPER. (THIS IS THE "LINKED" BRAKE SYSTEM) BOTH OF THESE LINES HAVE THE "BANJO" FITTINGS ON EACH END. THE THIRD LINE IS THE LINE THAT GOES FROM THE MASTER CYL. RESERVOIRE TO THE REAR MASTER CYL. THIS IS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HOSE CLAMPS ON IT. THE SMOKE YOU SAW WAS THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKING OUT THRU THE RUPTURED LINE DOWN ON THE EXHAUST COLLECTOR. IF YOU HAVE AN OLD FLEXIBLE BRAKE LINE, YOU COULD CUT A SECTION OUT OF IT AND MAKE THE REPAIR. BECAUSE THE BRAKE SYSTEM IS A RELATIVELY HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM, I DON'T THINK GAS LINE WORK FOR THE LONG HAUL. PERHAPS YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE HAS SOME HIGHER PRESSURE LINE. HERE IS A LINK TO SOUTH SEATTLE SPORTS. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com ONCE YOU GET HERE, SELECT YAMAHA, MOTORCYCLE, 1984, FVZ1200DL OR WHATEVER YOUR BIKE IS, THEN SCROLL DOWN THRU THE DIFFERENT PICS TO THE REAR MASTER CYL. DIAGRAM. THE PART IS ITEM #8, THE PART NUMBER IS 26H-25895-50-00 AND IS $13.59 USD NEW. SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT KNOW OF A BETTER FIX OR HAVE A USED LINE YOU COULD BUY. AT LEAST YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE UP AGAINST. EARL

  15. HI PAUL, FIRST OFF THE HYPERCHARGERS LOOK GREAT! NOW, THE FOLKS AT MORGAN CARBTUNE (THIS COMPANY MAKES THE CARB. SYNC THAT MANY MEMBERS SYNC. THEIR CARBS. WITH) ALSO MAKE A TOOL CALLED THE COLORTUNE. THIS TOOL ALLOWS YOU TO ACTUALLY LOOK INSIDE THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER WHILE THE BIKE IS RUNNING (I KNOW IT SOUNDS IMPOSSIBLE...BUT IT'S TRUE) I HAVE PERSONALLY USED THIS TOOL TO REJET MY V65 MAGNA AFTER NEW PIPES WERE INSTALLED. HERE IS THE WEBSITE: http://www.carbtune.com/ SCROLL DOWN ON THE MAIN PAGE AND YOU WILL SEE IT. IF YOU CONSIDER THE PRICE OF DYNO TIME THIS MIGHT BE A GOOD INVESTMENT. ALONG WITH THE TOOL ITSELF, YOU WILL GET A CHART THAT TELLS YOU WHEN THE OPTIMEN COMBUSTION HAS BEEN REACHED SO YOU CAN CHANGE THE JETS, INSTALL THE COLORTUNE IN EACH CYLINDER, AND REJET IF NEEDED. JUST A THOUGHT. EARL
  16. This Is Great News! I Hope Your Wife Enjoys Even More Improvment! Earl And Jean

EARL
  18. Hi Paul,

Looks like we are pretty close, I live in Duncansville, near Altoona. Maybe we car go for a ride sometime. I switched all of my brake/clutch fluids to that new dot 5 and everything works better now. Oiling the linkage also sounds like a good idea, since it started after the wash. Drop me a line sometime, I have an 87' as well.

    Earl

  19. Hi Steve,

If you have any questions about your brakes, send me a message. The whole "linked brake" thing is a pain as far as I am concerned. I have started a project to delink the brakes, I'll let you know how it goes.

    Earl.

  20. Hi Steve, I Recently Purchased An 87' Vr With The Same Problem. The Left Front Caliper Was Frozen As Well As The Rear Caliper. Basically I Was Stopping On The Right Front Caliper! Not A Good Feeling!!! Not That Ss Brake Lines Would Be A Good Upgrade, But I Don't Think That Is Going To Solve Your Problem. Here's How You Can Tell: Take Your Bike For A Spin, It Only Needs To Be A Few Blocks, Activate Your Front Brake, Then The Brake Pedal, Do This 6 Or 7 Times To Warm Up The Rotors. Head Back To Your House. Shut Off The Bike, Get Off, And Lightly Touch All Three Rotors. (warning!!! If Working Properly The Rotors Will Be Very Hot!!!) I Think You Will Find That At Least One Of Them Will Be Bone Cold. In My Case, It Was Two Of Them. I Was Able To Get The Front One Working By Removing It, Removing The Pistons, A Light Hone To Remove The "gunk" Inside, Reassemble, Reinstall Caliper. On The Rear I Was Not So Lucky, It Took A Rebuild Kit And The Cleaning Of The Rear Master Cylinder To Get It Working Properly. I Also Removed All Of The Old Fluid And Replaced It With Dot5 Fluid. Hope This Helps, Earl
  21. HI DICK, HOW CAN I GET IN TOUCH WITH Buckeye Performance. I WOULD LIKE TO CHANGH OUT MY PLUG WIRES AS WELL. DO YOU HAVE A LINK YOU COULD DISPLAY FOR EASY ACCESS? THANKS, EARL

THEY ALSO OFFER A KOYO BATTERY WHICH WILL ALLOW THE FIRST GENS. TO INSTALL THE BATTERY SENSOR FOR $69.00 WITH FREE SHIPPING. 25. Any Of The Newer Style Speakers With Mylar Plastic Cones Instead Of Paper Cones Should Do You Well In "wet" Locations Including The Dash Of The First Gen. Vr. I Have A Set Of Boston Acustics In My 87' Vr. Incredable Sound, I Tried The Turnsignal Trick But My Hands Were A Bit To Big To Get To All 4 Nuts. I Had To Remove The Dash Panel. Earl
