  1. Hey Alex, Nice pics of the show! Who makes the trike kit and did you notice a price? Thanks, Earl
  2. Hey Herb, I just looked at the pic of your scoot and WOW! Nice Bike. On a sidenote, I bought an 86' VR on Sunday and it has a brand new Dunlop E III on the front and beside the fact that it doesn't have the raised white lettering on the sidewall, (I really like the white lettering!) it is very quiet and might handle even better than the E II's on my 87' VR. Good score on the last of the E II's, I will miss those tires when mine finally wear out! Will try the E III's for the next set I guess. Good luck with your new set of tires! Ride Safe, Earl.
  3. I have a set of Dunlop Elite II's on my 87'VR that I bought in March of 2008 With 4500 miles on them so far and they still look like brand new. The date code on them is june of 2005. I was assured that all of the tires sold by this online tire outlet are stored properly. So far so good. I just thought I would throw this in. Ride Safe, Earl
  4. My wife Jean works for Target and I am not allowed to use the "W" word when she's around. In the town we live in (South Central Pennsylvania) the Target actually outsold Wal-Mart on "Black Friday" of this year. I do sneak into Wal-Mart from time to time. (I hope Jean doesn't read this!) Shop Safe, Earl

I understood every word you said Jonas because it came from the heart! I don't mean to steal this thread but Jonas has a good point. I am VERY greatful that your daughter and her children are finally safe and that her husband will get some time to "reflect" on his life and the mess he has made of it. I think most of us here either have a friend or relitive or even themselves that have made mistakes in the past and have lived to become better people because someone, somewhere, gave them a handup when they needed it most! It reminds me of this "family" we have here, We share our problems and fears with each other and other members share their wisdom and knowledge with us and TOGETHER we make this world a better place for ALL of us. I don't wish this young man any harm, I just pray that he survives long enough to be that better person, and share his knowledge and wisdom about the stupid thing he did with someone else who is making the same mistake. My Daddy yousta say, "Hate the thing a man does...NOT the Man!" But Hey, What Do I Know! Earl
  6. An eastern reporter once asked Daniel Boone if after all of his adventures, had he ever been lost? And his reply was: "I can honestly say that I have never been lost, but there was that one time I was a mite bewildered for about 5 days"! Glad you made it home OK! Earl and Jean
  7. I think somebody has done the VR to R1/R6 swap to an MK1 and hasn't shared all the juicey details with us....Say it ain't soooo! By the way, looks like a very clean job, did you delink the front and rear brakes? is there an R1/R6 caliper on the rear? Oh please, Oh please tell us! Oh and another thing, VERY nice front fender, it's a shame we can't get all the cool stuff for the first gens. any more! Earl
  8. Hi Raiki, If only one turn signal is not working then remove the lens cover and replace the bulb. If none of them is working, then I would check the turn signal fuse located under the false gas tank cover, on top of the battery. With a phillips head screw driver remove the black cover of the fuse box, the backside of the cover has a list of which fuse does what, find the fuse for the signal lights. On my 87' it is the second fuse from the bottom marked "SIGNAL" and is a 20 amp fuse. If the fuse is blown, replace it. If it is not blown, remove it, clean it, put a bit of dielectric grease on the ends and replace it. If there are still no turn signals I would check the turn signal switch on the handlebars, Remove switch cover, clean with contact cleaner, put a bit of dielectric grease on the contacts and reassemble. Hope this helps, Earl
  9. I too use the KIT brand plastic ploish in the yellow bottle from Wally Mart. When I first got my 87' VR the windshield was in very bad shape and I thought that it would be my first replacement part. As it turned out, a friend suggested the KIT and I tried it, and it worked! It removed many of the small to medium scratches right off the bat, and with a little elbow grease and multiple applications, the windshield is pretty close to as good as new. At $2.00 a bottle, It is a bargin for sure. Also, It causes the water to bead up anr roll off nicely. When applying, I use a cotton cloth, never paper towels. I also use Pledge on the rest of the bike with excellent results. Earl
  10. Gee Brad, Both Jean and I were sorry to hear that you are having to sell your bike! I was without a VR for a number of years and "it just didn't feel right". I surely hope that once your finances are in better order, a new VR will find it's way to your house. I will spread the word in our neck of the woods. Wishing You All the best with your sale, Earl and Jean
  11. Lets try this again..... Hi Rich, Sorry for calling you Reed, I picked it up from an earlier post and wanted to add a personal note to the offer to ask as many questions as you like, Sorry again for the oversite. I never really cared what my mom called me .....as long as she didn't call me Late for dinner! LOL Earl and Jean
  12. Welcome to the forum Reed, Glad to see you havn't given up riding, any questions, ask away. Earl and Jean
  13. Here's another set of progressive Springs on Ebay, a bit better price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=200246464395 Earl
  14. Hey Shep, I have used Ebay and Paypal, for over 5 years now, I have been a Power Seller on Ebay in the past, I have Purchased and sold well over 300 items on Ebay, I have 100% positive feedback, and the few times a deal has gone south, Ebay and Paypal have stood behind me 100%. I saw this cash back feature promoted but have not taken advantage of it myself. The wonderful thing about this forum is the fact that a member can share a "good deal" a fix to a problem, Quality equipment they have used, or a way to save a few bucks when purchasing Items on an INTERNET site. As is always the case, every person must decide what is within their comfort level, I look at on-line purchasing as a valuable tool, I try to always do my homework on a new feature available to me on the INTERNET, I try to never let a general "fear" of new things affect my judgment about the new process I am exploring. I wanted Shep to know that "Thinking outside the box" is encouraged here and I am grateful when a new member has the courage to "jump right in" and share his excitement of a newly found "good deal" with the rest of us. Today, the information shared by Shep may have had little to no value to the people that posted on this thread, but tomorrow, the information that Shep shares with us may help us to fix a nagging problem with our scoots, or save our lives! Shep please feel free to continue to share your ideas with us, I for one am an "old dog" that loves to "learn new tricks"! Earl
  15. Hey Marvin, Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. The First Gens. use the Part Number 8125L on the brakes and the clutch as well as the bleeder up by the Handlebars. The 8125 is the stock length and the 8125L is a bit longer. The 8125L sure makes it easier to work with, and on the rear caliper it was really great. They are the same price, So to recap, the 8125 is the length you have now and the 8125L will be longer. You might want to check for clearance before ordering. Here's a link to tthe Speed Bleeder web site: http://speedbleeder.zoovy.com/ Hope this helps, Earl
  16. Hey John, Congrats on the new house! let us know when the backyard camp sites are available! Best Wishes, Earl and Jean.
  17. Hey Dan, I just wanted to thank you for sharing your fears and the overcoming of them with us. I often forget that I am not the only rider in this world and that my concerns and fears are shared with all riders in this group, and we draw strength from those of you who conquer these concerns and fears, It makes it all the easier for the rest of us who have had or someday will have an accident or "scare". My hats off to you for regaining the love of riding you once had.:clap2: Thank You Again My Friend, Earl
  18. Hey Buddy, Both Jean and I were saddened to hear of your accident. We both hope that you heal quickly and fully. As we read your post Jean reminded me that " If a woman could remember what it felt like to have a baby, EVERY woman on the planet would only have one!!!" I guess the point is that time will help you forget this event and if your love of riding is as strong as you say it is, then when the time is right, your love of riding will outweigh the fear of crashing. Or as my daddy used to say "If it didn't kill you son, It will sure as hell make you stronger!" If this post put a smile on your face, good! You're on your way to recovery, If a day comes when riding your scoot with the wind in your face and the Florida sun shinning on your back puts a smile on your face, then double good! As long as YOU can look yourself in the eye every morning in the mirror, and be happy with the decision you made, the rest of us will stand by you cause that what friends do for each other. Just my thoughts, Earl and Jean
  19. I have an 87' VR and during the winter months if I let my bike sit for more than a week, it starts slow and must be warmed up for a while before it does well. I am not a big fan of starting fluid (except in diesel's). If the battery is good then I just chalk it up to cold weather. I must admit that I run a bit "ruff" my self, first thing in the morning on a cold winter day so it stands to reason that my 22 year old motorcycle would be the same way! Just My Thoughts, Earl
  20. Hi Jared, When speaking of changing the final drive most people go in the other direction. I am currently changing the final drive in my First Gen. VR to the final drive from a 1994 Vmax which will increase the rpm's not lower them. I believe your 2001 RSV has about the "tallest" final drive gear ratio of all of the Yamaha big crusers, meaning you can go higher on the rpm's but not lower by swapping the final drive from one of the other crusers. To my knowledge, there is no aftermarket company that makes a ring and pinion gear that would give you lower rpm's. Remember, these motors like to rev so unless you want to be able to cruse at 110 mph at 2500 rpm's I think you will be ok as far as over reving the engine goes. I fully realize that this is not the answer you wanted, but unless someone else knows a trick I am not aware of, it is what it is. I will be watching this thread with interest to see if one of the "masters" has a fix for you. Good Luck on your quest, Earl
  21. Hey Keith, When I purchased my first VR in 1991 (it was an 86') I had seen more than one of the MK1's scooting around and was impressed with the style of the bike right from the start! I think at that time the style was so different that a lot of people either "loved it" or "Hated it". I'd say that is the case with the Victory Vision. If it wasn't for the fact that it's a twin, I'd be taking a MUCH closer look at it. I like the look of the Vision myself, Jean on the other hand thinks the rear seating area is a bit on the "cramped" side and the luggage ares is small. Just my thoughts, Earl and Jean
  22. The price on the set of First Gen. VR MK2 front forks is still at $5.00 with 10 hours to go. This would be an excellent upgrade for you MK1 owners and a great winter project! Earl
  23. Uhaul rents a lowboy trailer just for motorcycles for $19.95 per day. I have towed both a First Gen. VR and a Goldwing on these trailers multible times without any issues. They even offer Insurance for a fee that covers the load in case of accident, blowout, or if it just flat falls off the trailer. I have purchased it before but never had to use it. They have a website for locations. www.uhaul.com Hope this helps, Earl
  24. I'd love to comment on this but I will have to wait till we get out!
  25. Hey Jonas, Jean and I plan to attend Don's Maintainance Day in Ohio and live in central Pennsylvaina. We have a very large Amish community in our area and take advantage of their many craft services on a regular basis. We can offer you free lodgeing, some of Jean's famous "to die for" cooking, a trip to the Amish community that you will never forget, and I am sure a few of the members in the area will be more than happy to ride along with you as you travel thru central Pa. I have been known to twist a wrench or two on my bike and any other rider that stops by. If your schedule allows you to stop by after Don's Maintainance Day, then please feel free to call our home, your home for as long as you like. Our phone number is in our profile, please feel free to call, or drop me a PM to firm up any plans you need to make. We are looking forward to meeting you at Don's! Earl and Jean
