    Along with the improvement in braking power, you will find you will get extra life out of your pads as well, there will be no more switching your pads around to the movable piston side of the caliper! The R1 Brake Swap will work just fine with the stock rotors, but the stock brake splitter has got to go! My kit provides the replacement splitter and the Stainless Steel Splitter Bracket to mount the new splitter in the proper location. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2445&title=2nd-gen281996-2010-29-r1-caliper-swap-and-s-sbrake-lines-21&cat=7 If you want to furnish your own Stainless Steel brake lines or R1 Calipers, I sell the Brake Splitter and Stainless Steel Splitter Bracket Separate. Another thing to mention is stock organic and Kevlar pads are NOT the way to go with this upgrade, you are going to want to use the HH Sintered Pads from EBC. I sell those pads separate as well. Two RSV's Side by side, driven to 65 MPH then "Panic Stopped", one with fresh stock brakes and one with the R1 Upgrade netted between 16 to 20 feet shorter stopping distance with the R1 upgraded bike, WITHOUT LOCK-UP, EVERY TIME!     I asked the same question! Not that I am complaining mind you, I have sold a few of my fuse box kits as a result of Yamaha's decision to use the BUSS, glass tube type fuses. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2330&title=first-gen281983-1993-29-vr-fuse-box-upgrade-kit-21&cat=6 According to Yamaha who did a study costing thousands of dollars (Yen) during the time the First Generation Venture Royales were produced and were sold all over the world, the Glass, BUSS type fuse was the most readily available fuse at most gas stations world wide. So Yamaha figured that since this was supposed to be their flagship touring motorcycle, they would use replaceable items that were easily obtained at any service station. The funny thing is Honda was using ATC type fuses since the early 70's. Go Figure?!? Earl

    Well FLB78, Seeings as how you won't even put your name in your "About Me Page", you said "NO" to VR Assistance, and out of over 9,000 VR.ORG members not a single one of them has had the nerve to sigh up on your friends list, It wouldn't surprise me if YOU were the Service Manager of that dump, Kelowna Yamaha. I dare say that I have yet to meet someone that would not do all in their power to help a fellow VR.Org member while that were out on the road, weather it be parts, a tow, lodging or food, perhaps I have finally met the "missing Link". If the dealers ever start their own forum where they can brag how they stuck it to some poor guy with a flat tire or that poor smuck that needed his oil changed, or overcharged some guy from out of town, just because...he was! Oh yea, but you would have to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO JOIN THAT FORUM! We can't be cuttin' you any slack just because you are a major contributer to this site.     I have that Kick Stand Switch for $55.00 NEW and I have a good used one for $25.00 $8.00 to ship either way. Hope this helps, I can beat ANY dealer price on OEM parts and almost any online store. I can come pretty close on afterarket parts as well. Earl

    Hey Jason, Welcome to the site! If you replaced the plugs BEFORE you added the Seafoam to you gas, you might try another set of plugs. If the Carbs. were that gummed up, you basically washed all of that mess onto the sparkplugs. The next thing I would suggest would be a Carb. Sync. Here's how this works: go to the members list and find all of the members that live in your area. PM each one and invite them to meet for Ice Cream, Coffee, or Lunch. Have them bring their Carbtune (or other Manometer) and you will get your Carbs. Synced, make a new friend and learn a bit about your bike all at the same time! It doesn't get much better than that!     Hey Trader, On my last trip of 600 miles over the 4th of July Holiday, 2 up fully loaded, I got 51 MPG and saw 115 MPH on several occasions.     Hey Jimbob, I think Herb has hit the nail right on the head, I had this happen to me a year or so back. I replaced the RLU and all was well. The only other thing would be the Hi/Lo switch. I have a spare of each if you need it. Earl

    Here is how I remove plugs on the V6 and V8 Fords, (which seem to be the hardest to get out) PB Blaster, leave on at least over night. 6 point Spark plug socket is a must. Using a medium 3/8" drive extension and a 3/8" drive IMPACT DRIVER, give each spark plug a FIRM smack! Do all 6 (or 8) one time, then go back and smack them again. Usually on the 3rd smack they break loose and you can use a regular 3/8" drive ratchet to remove each plug. When you install the new plugs, just a "dab" of anti-seize will make that removal job a lot easier next time. The problem is with the mating of dis-similar metals expanding and contracting at two different rates tends to cause the metals to fuse together. The downward, rotational shock, (force) generated by the impact driver cleanly separates the plug from the cylinder head. I find I get the best results with this combination of chemicals and tools.     Hey Freddie, I purchased the Garmin NUVI 855 last year, (actually Jean bought it for my birthday!) and have been VERY happy with the features it has. It has a mini SD card that I have loaded with many songs That I enjoy. I have also purchased extra mini SD cards that I have filled with different types of "mood" music. The coolest feature I like about this unit is the fact that it has an FM transmitter, you set your FM radio to a obscure channel and the GPS/MP3 player plays right thru to the stereo on your bike! Plus it has voice commands for turns and when it's time to turn, the radio is muted and the voice is also broadcasted over your stereo radio! Is that cool or what! I have the unit hard wired into the fuse box on my VR and charging batteries is a thing of the past. I have attached a few pics, and I dare say that you would be hard pressed to find a cleaner install, the NUVI 855 is the wide screen version and has excellent visibility in the day time. It also has an audio jack out in case you would like to use a set of headphones while riding. I sell a power supply cable for all of the Garmin NUVI modles. The best thing about this unit is I paid less then $200.00 for a brand new unit!! If you have any other questions about the power supply, the mount or other features, please feel free to PM me.     Rules I sell by: NO Kids with out Parents. Must have Motorcycle License. Cash Deposit before a ride. If the person doesn't look like he (or she) can physically hold the bike up, then no ride.     Hey Brian, The trailer hitch for the MKII VR's will fit the 86' to 93' bikes and the MKI VR hitch will fit the 83' to 85' bikes. Earl

    Hey Rick, You are looking for a set of Carbs. from any of the 1200c.c. motors, 1983 to 1985. Keep in mind that when replacing one of the Carbs, they will be location specific, in other words, a right front Carb. will not fit the left rear position. Good luck with your project, Earl

    Hey Bob, If you could take a few moments and answer a few questions, hopefully, we can get your bike running better. With your bike being 20+ years old, I would guess that your front fork springs are basically shot! Here is a link to a set of top quality replacement springs for your 1990 VR: http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=2907&title=first-gen281983-1993-29-progressive-fork-springs-21&cat=6 Now, about that rear caliper, there is nothing inside a brake caliper that retracts the caliper pistons, NOTHING! Dust from the brake pads combined with fluid squeezing past the seals forms a glue like residue that keeps the caliper pistons from retracting away from the rotor. You are hearing the brake pads that will not retract from the rotor catching the slots in the rotor. There is no need to remove the Master Cylinder, remove the rear caliper, pull the pads, and look for build-up around the pistons, and look at the pads for uneven wear. If the pads are wearing unevenly, then the pistons are sticking and that caliper needs rebuilding.     Hey Jack, I had the same thing happen to me when I took my CLASS unit out of my 87'VR. I soldered that puppy two or three times to get it to work right. My hat's off to you my friend, for hangin' in there and getting that CLASS unit workin' again! Earl

    Hey Walt, It's a LOT safer to run a mismatched tire than to run a tire with the cord showing! I think you made an excellent choice having the bike towed to the repair shop to have that tire replaced. Sometimes we misjudge the condition of replaceable items on our bikes like tires, brake pads, oil changes etc. But as soon as you realized you had an issue with that tire you stepped up and did the right thing instead of trying to "squeak out" the last few hundred miles and putting yourself, your passenger and everyone else on the road with you In danger. I commend you for being ever vigilant as to the condition of your equipment, you probably saved someone's life today! I hope the rest of your trip goes without incident. Earl

    The 2 piston rear caliper fits ALL MKI VR's. The years are 1983 to 1985. A Right or Left Front Caliper will not fit the rear. The right front will bolt up but the piston size is incorrect. I am pretty sure I have one here, if you are interested, feel free to PM me. Hope this helps, Earl

    Hey Herb, Try Adjusting the Idle Mixture Screws OUT 3 Turns from bottom. On a few bikes, I have gone out as much as 31/2 turns, use 1/4 turn increments for this adjustment. Checking your Carb. Sync. is another good thing to do seeing as how you already have your side covers off the bike. This Needle Shim Mod works best if your Carb. Diaphragms are functioning properly with NO holes in them. As with EVERYTHING I sell on the VR.ORG site, if you are not happy with the way a mod or kit functions, I will gladly refund your money.     Hey Jon, Did you by chance drive the bike home on the trailer with the bike in first gear? I have seen that beat up first gear more than once on a motorcycle. Are you sure that the clutch lever is disingaging the clutch to allow the gear shift lever to shift to neutral or second gear? Put the bike on the center stand and try rolling the rear tire forward and reverse while trying to shift the bike into first or second gear. Looks like you might be into that tranny a bit sooner than you thought. Keep us posted on what happens, Earl
