  1. Thanks for all the info guys. The switch on my bike is working eletrically ok, just the plunger is not coming all the way out....sticks almost all the way out. I can reach down and pull it out the last little bit and everything is good. Anyone else have this same situation? I haven't really looked it over good....kind of hoping for an easy cheap fix. Hey, I can dream can't I?LOL
  2. Mine is bad. Aggervating the mess out of me!lol Any body got a good one or know if they are still availible for a '86RSV?
  3. OK folks, I got a sticky kick-stand switch that is aggervating the mess out of me.lol Tried WD-40, white spray grease and no luck. It doesn't come all the way out and make contact lately...was just once in a while but now it is every time. Anyone got a good fix for this or no where I can get one new or used? Thanks in advance, Roy
  4. I'm also interested in the hitch that you have. Our bike is an '86 RSV too. Wondering what kind of shape it was in and if you had all the hardware for it. How much you want for it and where is it located(shipping cost)? Thanks, Roy
  5. Just bought an E 3 front for the '86 VR we have, but I got it from Cycle giant/Windstuff. 127.98 shipping and all to our door.
  6. We have an '86 RSV with 32,000 on it now and have put about 8000 on it since I've had it. Does the same thing, thought it was coming a part to start with. The rear tire was cupped bad when I bought it and it roared like a freight train. Could have sworn it had bad bearings or something. Gut at the local dealer told me he thought it was the tire and when I showed t to him he said almost know doubt and when I put a new one on to be sure and keep the pressure right up there to keep the tire from wearing and cupping fast and they will cup fast and keep the noise down. Seemed to me he was right so far. The whine belong the the venture from most all I have seen. Was one guy that said he got rid of his but it might have been a 2nd Gen though. Does get loud some times mostly long rides. Think I just get to listening more to it.LOL Good bikes though.
  7. Got the lights on, haven't got to try them out yet but I like the way they look and think they will be a big help. Thanks for everything guys. Roy & Lydia
  8. Now there you go waterbug. The painterman does it for a living, I was going to suggest talking to someone experienced in that line of work like maybe a inspector from a neiboring town but sounds like he is the man you need to talk to. find 5 people who you believe to be knowledgeable about the matter and if most, if not all tell you the same thing then that is usually the way to go. The house sitting with no heat or air probably is what did it due to it sweating. These guys that have been doing that work for a long time have experience you can't get any where else. The education they have they usually payed for by hard knocks, so it is advisable to listen to them or it will cost you. Personally, I have done some of that stuff but been a lot of years and young at the time so my attention was focused on other matters, right?LOL Roy
  9. Found that Napa auto parts has H3 bulbs that are 35 watt. Unfortunely they are about $9.00 ea. but hey, if you gonna play you got to pay. So, I bite the bullet and bought the lights I wanted and going to get the replacement bulbs, and relay,.... to finish the job. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks everybodt for all the info. Appreciate it very much indeed. Roy & Lydia:farmer:
  10. Thanks, I kind of liked the looks of them when I was checking out their site earlier. I'll have to take a closer look at them and see if they will accept a lower wattage bulb for sustained use.
  11. Thanks, I found optronics brand all over the place! The platinum thing I couldn't find. Pro burners are everywhere(walmarts). Looked at the ones availible on their site but didn't see the one that uses the MR-16 bulb mentioned, or is that a replacement bulb? Thanks for the info, want to get this done right. Roy & Lydia:hurts:
  12. Is this the name of them by brand or slang name for them? Don't recall seeing "platinum burners" in the store by that name. What shape are the light housings, rectangle or round or both? The projector type bulbs hold up well to viberations and are they availible in 35watt each? I'm afraid 55watt would be an over-draw on the charging system? Really like to add some lights but don't want to create any problems, right?
  13. Hi, guys got a question cause I don't know. Been looking at walmart, autozone and O'reilly auto parts at the lights availible and found some I like at oreilly's but the bulbs are different than the 35watt ones I wanted to replace with at lowes. They have a metal type retangular base with a round metal "slug" at the bottom that a small screw attaches to the reflector with. The lowes h3 replacement bulb only has two metal pin/prongs that stick out the base of the bulb for connection. Now what I'm unsure of is, will these bulbs inter-change? Tried to pull the bulbs from the metal base but didn't get stupid with it because I didn't want to buy lights I couldn't use. Both bulbs are suppose to be "H3" bulbs, are there different physical types of h3 bulbs? Has anybody seen the "platinum burners" spoke of here at a walmart in the south? Help please. Roy & Lydia
  14. Well, guess I will just have to see about making or modifying one then. Thanks all.
  15. Appreciate the info. Very detailed and saves me a lot of trouble to do the same thing. Thanks again.
  16. I need a fuel reserve T-handle for '86 RSV. If anybody has or knows of one that is availible I would appreciate it. We were coming back from the Smokeys and stopped at a rest area and when we returned to the bike my wife noticed a screw lying on the passenger foot rest, I noticed no reserve valve handle. I think it vibed out cause I had a tire that was cupped pretty bad at the time on the back. Should have replaced it before we took the trip.
  17. I had stopped smoking in 1985 and started scuba diving, I say stopped because a guy told corrected me saying you only quit once, he is right. Then on Oct.23, 2003 my dad died of lung cancer,Heart problems. The day or two before he died were the worst, hardest thing in my life to watch him and could do nothing, Honestly thought about turning the oxygen off so it would be over sooner for him (and me too). That sounds bad I know, but there was no hope at all for him and I knew that, except maybe god and in that case it wouldn't matter what I did. During that time, I promised him and myself that i would quit smoking and not add any more to the risk of my sons being in that same position I was in. I try and make a point to do the things I say I will do and more especially to a dead or dying man. So, on Oct.26, 2003 When we buried my dad, I gave my cigs. and lighter to my aunt and have never smoked anything again. I intend to keep the promise. I thank you for listening to my ramblings and hope that maybe it will be of benefit to someone. P.S. Once in a while I sure do want one, but not so much any more and it don't last long, think it's mostly in my head. Always was.
  18. Appreciate the info. Saves me time, money and heart-ache, right? Thanks guys Mechanic1
  19. What do those brackets look like and how/where do they attach to the bike? I have a pair that can with the bike that attaches with the horn/fasteners. If I understand you correctly, you bought the lights at walmart and replacement bulbs(lower wattage) from lowes?
  20. I was thinking of adding some driving lights to our bike, but I don't want to over load the charging system. Does anyone Know what the electrical system can sustain, ie, amps watts?
  21. How much trouble is it to change the stat on an'86 VR? Our seems to run cold, had it about two years think I have heard the fan twice when stuck in traffic. Beginning to doubt if it has one in it. Running below temp could be very bad for it. Any help much appreciated. Roy:hurts:
  22. Does antone have any idea what the weight rating on a Markland hitch is?
  23. Hey Guys, I'm interested too. Been looking for a hitch but have not been able to locate a used one. I was hoping to find one with 1.25 receiver style so I could carry a cooler or tow a small trailer. Tell him to fire that torch up, he needs some hunt'in money anyway. " The land of cotton" Roy
  24. Hi, I put a bridgestone S-11 on the back of our '86. Installed easy enough, balance was great and the tire seems to be performing great also. Have about 3500 to 4000 miles on it. I know that sounds like a lot but tire holding up great. Not bad for 90.00.
