the easy answer is that it 'carries' the load (current) for the peripheral device which you may add. when 'switching' something 'on' there generally is a current spike and a relay of correct amperage handles that nicely. the current to operate a relay in our application is relatively low and thus allow smaller gauge wire to energize the coil. i'm certain others will offer more/better explanations. buz

i don't fault you for your decision to ride after drinking ONE beer. like you i love the taste of beer but i won't even drink one when i am on the bike - i just choose to err on the side of safety....i'm past 60 yrs. and i know that i 'think' my reflexs are as good as they used to be...but the real truth is they are not and for that reason i just won't chance hurting my wife, myself or anyone else...but as i already stated, i don't fault you at all.

need some opinions on how much a 1991 Goldwing GL1500 Trike w/trailer is worth. the bike has 91K miles, has reverse and seems to be in great condition. everything appears to be working on the trike. this bike and trailer were just donated to our camp and we possibly will be selling it shortly. 1991 Goldwing GL1500 http://i48.tinypic.com/20sulft.jpg

i just passed the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) rider course this past friday. while i'm not qualified to debate ABS vs standard braking - i can safely say that without the basic riding skills and understanding of many factors affecting m/c safety and operation - the safest bike in the hands of an unskilled driver isn't all that safe. i learned several very important lessons (micarl pointed out 'high siding') - if i were to make a suggestion about the safest way to stop a bike - i would say find a MSF course near you and take it. i was pleasntly surprised when my instructor informed me that i passed the written test with 100% and scored zero on my riding test (zero being highest score) - he encouraged me to look into becoming an instructor (which greatly inflated my head). all the best gear and latest bike technology is virtually wasted if not instructed and have practiced safe riding. i wish all the best to our family riders ! buz

boomer, first let me thank you for your part in the PGR. second please forgive my ignorance, what do you mean when you say "no blocking duty allowed w/ 2 up" and what exactly would be our part in the mission?
-
is it ok to ride two up (my wife) during PGR missions? what is best way to mount the flag on a RSTD and where?

weather was awesome here in N.C. - approx. 70 and crystal clear. wife and i put in about 380 mi. - went to lake lure/chimney rock. unfortnately the majority of ride was on I40 but the ride from there to lake lure was beautiful. wife needs some more cushioning for her butt (we did the butler seat mod, which helped a bunch) - how 'bout some suggestions on how to make her butt more comfy (let's keep it clean youse guys). i really don't want to change out the seats.

wife and i got in a quick 70 miles today in N.C. temp at about 70....beautiful day

"How many tools do you own and are just sittin'in the shed... AND... how many hands do you have??" never seen a high heel pump fix a broke down bike 300 miles from home....... i'm stirring it now

tom, go check your wife's closet....how many pair of shoes does she own ? how many feet does she have? two bikes in the garage seems reasonable to me !

Metzeler 880 corporate irresponsibility sends me to darkside

better get it in writing if you intend to go to the darkside -
specs say venture dry is 807lbs - rstd dry is 787lbs - only 20 lbs difference - i've easily added that to my rstd with fiberglass batwing, tour pak with bracket and other accessories. guess i need to move to a lighter rsv...lol but the rstd does feel lighter than it's advertised weight .

i have an '07 RSTD and was wondering if anyone out there is currently using the dynatek 300 - pt# D3K7-5? what are the pros & cons for this module? where is the best place to purchase? any issues with installation?
-
bigfoot, my butt cheeks also used to hurt a lot - but after this 225 miler they hurt 95% less than before the mod. for the price that rick charges and the excellent job he does i say give it a try, i believe it will help....that's my story and i'm stickin' to it . if only i could find a backrest that didn't cost so much............
-
when you're wrong about something you ought to admit it ! well i was wrong about the seats Rick Butler modified and the tour pak back rest cushions. i originally thought i would like the results ...but i was wrong...... I LOVE IT !! after being unable to ride for the past three month (during that time Rick did the mods) today my wife & i rode to Clarksville Va. for lunch - what a beautiful day and ride - the lunch was awesome (pepperoni & sausage lasagna). it was a 225 mi. round trip and my butt and especially my tailbone never bothered me. i could only get about 50 mi. before the mod and my butt & tailbone were aching and needing a break... you can spend the big bucks on all the fancy seats but the $40 for the seats is the best money i've spent on my bike. Thank you Rick Butler for the great job and the great service you provide to us here on VentureRider.

i also have an 07 RSTD with RK mufflers (from http://www.zzchops.com/) - you will also need to purchase the chrome clamp (pictured in the ebay ad). i thought i purchased the clamps from someone on this forum?? i needed to saw off a small portion of one pipe (i think it was the right side) to make the chrome clamp fill in the gap. http://i37.tinypic.com/2hh3rsk.jpg http://i37.tinypic.com/2ufen10.jpg
