you actually can't tell much of a difference in how it looks from stock. But there is sure a difference in the seating and riding comfort. Hope you heal quick Rick

OK so I'll throw 2 more legends into the mix. Most Europeans (BMW Zundapp the Italians,Cechs, etc etc) had left side shift 'cause they drove on the right. The Brits had right side shift 'cause they drove on the left. I don't know what the Spanish excuse was. When Harley came out with the Sportster, it was in direct competition with the Brits, thus most of their buyers would be coming from from a right shift bike so they wanted to make the transition as easy as possible. The shift from right to left started started when the Feds forced all car manufacturers to standardize shift quadrants if they wanted a govt contract. Soon after they started on bikes.

I started my riding career on British bikes with a 1956 AJS then Norton Triumph BSA Norton again Triumph. When I went to the Yamaha Venture it took awhile to get the left side shift down. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

I have a 1968 BSA Royal Star in am restoring. That is the 500cc single carb version of the motor used in the 650 Lightning. The Super Rocket is actually the motor before the A65/A50 unit motor. The Super Rocket would be an A10 motor, seperate engine/Transmission. That would be a very nice bike to have. What color was it midicat?

When I lived in Argentina in the 60's there were very few public toilets and they were not clean, and no TP. There was always a news stand close by and in the bigger cities you could buy TP there but mostly we learned to always have a newspaper with us. In some places there would be an attendant to sell you some TP in the restroom itself. Travel is very enlightening in many ways.

SO! What are the AGES of the DRIVERS of VR.Org?
Pegasus1300 replied to Zfrebird4's topic in Watering Hole
Wow this is an Old thread in more ways than one. I was 62 when this started and still riding and my RSTD. Now on a Spyder but still riding. -
The Spyder is home as you can guess from the heading her name is Charlotte. She came in and woke me up at 6:00 am to tell me that. All went well at the bank doing the paperwork thought since the branch I finalized the purchase at was different from the branch I started with they had to do all the stuff all over again. I was a little intimidated by the Spyder at 1st but the seller spent enough time with me that I felt comfortable in driving her home. Got home about 9:30 last night had to ride quite a bit in the dark. I love the driving lights but the high beams to me are useless. There is no apparent difference between high and low. Great ride otherwise. I haven't had so much fun since I left the 2 wheel world. I took everybody's advice and let her rev. I never got her into 5th gear until out on the freeway.3rd gear is like on my Royal Star, you can go slow or run it up to 60 and goes just great.I could not remember how to get into reverse. I was at my son in law's house and he googled it for me and then it was easy.I also figured that if I push the parking brake before I turn it off she wont scream at me. My grandkidslove riding with Grandpa and promptly announced that the Spyder was "really cool". It was supposed to rain today but I had enough space between showers to go over to the Rat Fink reunion in Manti and find a pin striper there to give Charlotte a little character. Shayne Syx an old line Roth pin striper did the honors . The rain kept me from getting a finished picture but I'll get one tomorrow. Here is a pre pin stripe picture and some pin stripe pictures

Well my Gold Wing trike is gone.I was able to sell it locally and he came last night and picked it up. He and his wife were so excited they could hardly sit still.Like many of us they are long time riders who have developed medical problems that no longer permit them to enjoy 2 wheels safely, but they are not ready to hang it up yet. I hope they get as many enjoyable miles out of it as we did. We have had it since Oct 2011 and put 40K fun miles and times on it.We are now looking for a Spyder RT. I think I have found a 2012 RT Limited at a good price also locally. I should here from them sometime today. Just sitting on pins and needles waiting. I can't believe it has been almost 5 years since I rode a V4 Yamaha. I rode those from 1986 to 2011. I had to go to 3 wheels after the wreck. UtAdventure is down here until Saturday for the Rat Fink Reunion and we visited some. If I can close the deal on the Spyder today he will take me up to SLC to pick it up. Then I can have it pin striped at Rat Fink/ I' ve been here a long time and so if you'll let a Spyder into the mix I'll continue to hang around.

Anti dive bolts loose have leak
Pegasus1300 replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If I read your name tag right you have an 86. On those the anti dive is electrical not hydraulic,so your brakes are not hooked to them. That makes it extremely unlikely that your fluid is brake fluid. Drain the oil from the forks, put some fresh in ( I use any cheap 5-30 plus i oz of power steering fluid per fork leg as a seal conditioner),order your springs so you'll have them in time to install at MD. -
$11,000 is a little high for an 89 1500 trike depending on conversion kit and miles. If you remember him Wiredgeorge just sold his 98 Goldwing Trike for $12000.00 but that was a Hannigan. I have a 1990 GL SE trike that looks and runs great for sale that I am not getting any calls on at $8000.00. You should go look at it and if you like it make him an offer. The worst that can happen is he'll say no,but you might come to an agreement at some other price.

Beastwood is exactly correct. From personal experience of my wife and I.We both had fractured wrists from our accident. I made sure that they left me my fingers when they splinted me,she did not.I came out with no loss of motion in my fingers, she spent months in PT trying to get her hand back and still has very limited use of her little finger. If there is anyway they can let you move your fingers during recovery make sure they do it.It will save you a lot of grief later.

new VENTURE OWNER what did i do!
Pegasus1300 replied to moto_boy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I like the Silver one better.Which one has the least amount of miles? I have ridden 2 of these to over 150,000 miles and have a 3rd with 65,000 (87). I would put the Silver plastic on the one with the least miles and ride it until it desolves in a pile of plastic goo. -
isn't fingernail polish remover basicly acetone? If it is you could use one of those bottles.

That was fascinating. I actually tried something similar with the same results. Go get on your regular bicycle and reverse your hands and see what happens. I'll bet you end up in the ditch like I did. :D

So with regard to your lack of money and wanting to erase your Nooby sins as cheaply as possible you can use an old plastic modelers trick and make a filler putty out of some ABS plastic shavings. Just get an ABS fitting or piece of pipe, cut it into shavings and mix it with enough ABS pipe glue to make a paste and smear it on like body putty. When dry sand smooth and paint. It shouldn't take too much of the putty. If you don't want to make putty Squadron has a ready made plastic compatible putty that is very easy to work with and binds well to plastic. You can google "modelers supplies" or "Squadron Green" and find sources for it and they may have other brands as well. Oh how do I know this stuff,my 87 lid flew off with the same results as yours and I couldn't use the Noob excuse. I just forgot to put the tethers on when I went from the 86 to the 87.

Start checking for vacuum leaks. Do you have the vacuum hose to the auto advance hooked to #2 carb? Pilot screws can be found on ebay. You may also try Sudco International. They have been the Mikuni Carb importer since Noah. Call them and tell them what you have and what you need maybe they can help. Google them for a phone #. Good luck on your project and just be patient with yourself and the bike. It will be worth your while when you are done. A well running Venture of any generation is a joy to ride and a very rare sight.People will want to know what that is and will not believe you when you tell them it is over 25 years old. Since you are going back in there anyway you should go ahead and buy the other 3 diaphragms. They are a known wear item and prone to holes and if yours are original they are 28 years old.The black goo on the one diaphragm was a common repair back in the day when a new slide assembly was the only way you could get a new diaphragm and that was about $125.00. This was far more common in pre internet days when we didn't have the search resources we have now. There was a fellow in the old VTS who came up with a source at about 65$ and he was doing a land office business but if you didn't get the magazine or know someone who did you were SOL.

UtAdventure and I both ride with the Temple Riders Association. I have been riding with them since 1993 and Dave since about 2002. There are not many of us that VR members here in Utah so it could get pretty lonely if we didn't have local people to ride with. I have also ridden with STAR in the past. They have a really big chapter up in Utah County.

2 ditto on Jake Wilson, but then they are only 40 miles from me and I can take the wheel there and they'll mount the tire with dyna beads for $20.00 And yeah this is an old thread but I guess if the new posts give current information.................

" swerved over and hit the lead bikes head on and everyone went down like bowling pins!! cowpuc" In 1989 4 of my friends were going North on US6 up Price River Canyon in staggered formation when a lady coming the other way leaned over to pick something off the floor of her 3/4 ton pickup and drifted wide on the curve. Killed 2 head on the 3rd hit the space between the cab and the bed. He survived but was 9 months in the hospital and has only vague memories of his life before the accident. The 4th had time to avoid the accident but never rode much after that. This was an accident but whether in cage or bike we just have to pay attention all the time.

I have only one flag. I run it all the time and it lasts about 5-7 years. I have put it on 2 different bikes and have not noticed any cracking of the plastic
