  1. If you would like to quit using the adapter, cheap way get an FM adapter for the GPS to broadcast to an empty channel in your stereo. Best way send your radio to Sierra Electronics and have them put an aux wire and switch in your stock radio so you can hook it up and have it play thru the unit as if li were made that way. http://www.sierra-mc.com/
  2. I used to pull the radio/RAM mount and detach the wires when I transferred but I found that in time the antenna did not mount solidly enough to keep a solid connection. That is when I went to multiple RAM mounts and just moved the radio. I did not know about TSS and their short antenna but thanks to Barrycuda I will be using this on the Spyder and saving myself a lot of grief removing tupperware.
  3. I transfer my Satellite from the Spyder to the car to the truck to the office. I have a docking kit for each place. On the back of the docking station you will see four screw holes. I mounted a RAM ball back there the one with the triangle shaped base using the 2 screw holes that lined up. That base stays on the bike. On the RSV I had a ball that bolted to the brake reservoir on the right handlebar also From RAM and one of their posts, the short length one. I ran a cord down to the AUX port on the cassette deck a power cord to the accessory plug and the antenna under the tank, seat and back to the top of the trunk(no rack). That used up most of the excess antenna wire so there wasn't much to bundle up under the passenger seat. It worked really well and it was nice to play thru the helmets.
  4. +1 on Condor's suggestion. One other thing to check, either mic or have someone mic the involved rod journal on the crank to make sure there is not a flat spot where the rod hit the crank.
  5. people are going to move on,it's the nature of things. But I look a sites like the Brit Bike sites the Yamaha 650 site, the Bridgestone,Montesa, etc sites. The membership in these has to be minuscule. Yet they survive and provide a wealth of information to those who visit there. As well as good friends and the chance to get together with other people who have the same interests. I don't really see a need to change the focus of our club. There are still a goodly number of VR,RS,RSTD and RSV out there and there will always be people who love them and want to continue to keep them on the hwy. We are a friendly group and very welcoming to new members and I think genuinely sad to see those who have left not be with us any more. Although I maintain my membership here I have moved on,I ride a Spyder now,I haven't been on a V4 since 2011. I don't really have much technical information to add anymore cause I don't work on them anymore. But I do enjoy the friendship and the back and forth of the group. Tweek as you see fit Don but unless a more compelling reason comes along mostly leave it alone.
  6. Hi Puc it is snowing here and no I put Charlotte up at least until the January Thaw or the end of Feb when I go to San Diego with Temple Riders, which ever comes first. So have you set a date yet for Pie Butt?
  7. Lee & Perrin's Lionel L'oreal Buster Brown Oshkosh Begosh And the list could go on and on.
  8. As you are going to look at the axle nut anyway, while you are there, make sure it is assembled correctly and that the tire isn't coming apart and fully seated on the rim.
  9. I don't know if you have personally owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, but I love them I also had a 2000 and it did everything I wanted for 8 years. It was 7 years old when I bought it and I sold it this summer to my wife's nephew and it still runs strong. Know wonder you MIL lovers hers. I like the olive green and at the price you are getting it for you should have a great car for a long time. Go for it.
  10. I am with you, I can't lift it on the center stand with a 2 x 4 under it either. So I put it on the center stand then rock it to one side side the 2 x 4 under then rock it to the other side and kick the other end under then set it back down level and there it is.
  11. If the diameter is not to great get a cylinder hone. It will have the abrasive balls already on it,the shaft is flexible and if to short can be fixed to marcarl's copper wire. They can be got in different diameters, just get the size you need up to 4" I think. BTW what is it you are trying to clean out of there? Would vinegar work? or a mild Meuratic Acid?
  12. I have never used a bike lift and have never taken all that stuff apart. I put a 2 x 4 under the centerstand for fender clearance and remove both bags and bumper in one piece as I described. I found this method of accessing the rear wheel when I bought a new trailer hitch for the 86 back in 1988. Markland put these instructions in with the hitch parts. Its been over 20 years so I don't have a copy of them anymore or I would post it. I agree with you it is not a great design but then I don't know of any fully dressed bike that does have easy access to the rear wheel.
  13. As an easy way to get to your rear wheel, just take the 4 screws out that hold each bag to the bike pull the light sockets out of the bottom. Then reach around both bags from the rear spread them a little lift and pull back and they will come off in one piece. There is plenty of give to do this without breaking anything and a lot quicker and easier then taking all the screws out of the cross bar.
  14. In 25 years of riding Ventures I have always used the foot peg method of mounting much like using the stirrup to get on a horse. I still use that method to get on the Spyder but then the 3rd wheel may be a little more stable then the side stand. When the foot peg on the old 86 started to bend I wrapped a hose clamp around it and tightened it down and no more trouble. I have worried about the side stand breaking and it actually did once also on the 86. I had the tab on the sidestand welded back on and re enforced then I drilled out the hole to take a larger bolt without a shoulder and no more troubles with that. The only way I can get my right leg over mounting from the ground is to put it on the peg then lift it over with both hands
  15. By the time I think to clean mine they are so sun rotted that a trip thru the washer would leave me nothing but rags

    Biker hit

here are two more articles on this event. If you scroll down further on the first the entire video is there. http://lanesplitter.jalopnik.com/dri...%28Jalopnik%29 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...motorbike.html
  17. Be sure that you mic the crank to make sure there is no flat spot from bending the rod.
  18. Notify the AMA. They have a campaign to toughen up the penalties for people who kill motorcyclists This is not uncommon for people with multiple DUIs to still be out still be driving, still be drinking and driving drunk.
  19. the Yamaha sells very well in Asia now but it is a little underpowered at only 125cc. It is a leaner and they say a blast to ride. Piaggio's MP3 sells very well in Europe and I think it comes in verious sizes up to a 500cc. They tried to sell it here but pulled out after 3 years. I have heard that Toyota is working on a leaner also. I would keep my Spyder RT for my wife and I and get something like the Honda just for me. I would ride it like a borrowed horse, fun fun fun
  20. That is beautiful. My favorite color Venture next to Blue
  21. the big change for the 85 is the larger trunk. If I remember correct all the other upgrades had been made. Brakes are the same bag mounts the sameetc etc
  22. I have modular helmets and am able to hear my surroundings just fine. I bought my headsets years ago from Sierra Electronics, but don't know what brand. I know I have a set of J&M's. They were expensive and not any better then the cheaper ons.
  23. I did Not know that. See the forum proves its worth again!
  24. I bought mine from Vessel. They make high quality tools and some of mine I have had for 40 years (impact drivers). Here is their website. I bought the 3 driver set about 2 years ago for the same price. Nice stuff http://www.vesseltools.com/hand-tools/screwdrivers/megadora/view-all-products.html
  25. Grandchild number14 is the same way. He is just over 24 months
