I am sorry to hear about your mishap.I also went down about a month ago from following too close and the insurance company totaled the bike.On another site I visit one of the members posted this. Now please this is in NO WAY any kind of indictment to you or anybody elses rideing. It just seemed like an appropiate time and place to post it. I hope this helps some of you it has been beneficial to me. The generally accepted safe following distance is 2 seconds from the vehicle in front of you. If you are riding in a staggered formation this means that you would be 2 seconds behind the bike directly in front of you and 1 second behind the bike that is in the other side of the lane. To determine your following distance watch for the vehicle in front of you to pass some fixed point, such as a mile marker or tar snake, and count “one motorcycle, two motorcycle.” That would be the equivalent of a two second following distance. Please note that your instincts for car driving may not transfer well to motorcycle riding. Bernt Spiegel, a German researcher of the human/motorcycle interface, found that riders constantly follow vehicles more closely on their motorcycles than they did in their cars. Spiegel conducted an experiment where he had motorcyclists follow behind a car, but staggered to the left, at a distance that the riders felt was sufficient. Then while proceeding along at a pace set by the car, the car driver would randomly initiate an emergency stop. Spiegel found that the vast majority of riders did not get their cycles stopped quickly enough to remain behind the vehicle, but in most cases passed the rear bumper of the cars; indicating that if the rider had not been staggered they would have impacted the vehicle. The results were not replicated when riders were driving their cars. What I take from Spiegel’s findings is that instincts formed from car driving will let us down when riding. We must practice, practice, practice, ride, ride and ride. Doing so will train ourbrains.

There are not many used ones in the west at the moment.I wrecked my RSTD and have been looking for a Venture and not had much luck finding one I like West of the MIssissippi R.I have looked on Craigs List,Cycle Trader and Ebay Motors.I did find one yesterday in Colorado on CT and that is the one I am going for.Insurance check should be here tomorrow.

I had a 47 convertible chev wish I still did.I put a 301 GMC six in it with carbs on a homemade manifold. Not a lot of top end but man was it quick out of the hole.

Yeah I thought it was a Midnight too at first but it is a Harley. However the latest Rider has a full page add on the inside back cover for Onterio Canada that features both an RSTD and an RSV.Anybody recognize who they are?

Thats it Mark you nailed it.It was the Dallas/Fort Worth area and Short Haul.I will pm him and see what the deal is. Don thank you for the pm.I will let you know if I need you to look at the Ohio bike. Thanks for the offer. To all who asked,I am fine. The protective gear did its job and I came away with only minor abrasions on the left knee and left elbow.Helmet and leathers turned what could have been a major medical disaster into a minor medical emergency. It was a stupid thing, I was in trafffic slowing down and then the car in front was slowing faster then I was and I tapped the rear bumper of the car in front of me.It was just enough of a tap to deflect the front end and put me down. I slid for a little don't know how far and pretty well chewed up the left side of my helmet.I don't remember hitting the ground just the sliding.I do know I will never wear fingerless gloves again. My fingers weren't chewed up very much just enough to warn me and they are healed now.

I don't think I am having a mirage but maybe so.Up until yesterday there was a white RSV in the classifieds for sale for 7200.00 or 8900.00 with color matched trailer.I wrecked my dream bike an 08 tour deluxe going to Death Valley on the 11th of this month and the insurance co wants to total it.I want a Venture now and thought that white one would be perfect but the listing has disappeared.Anybody know why or remember who the seller was or have his contact info? I think it was in Tulsa but not sure now. There is no record of it being sold it is just gone.Any help would be appreciated or in finding another one.

I have to agree with High Tech.I had a studded Corbin from Yamaha on my 08 RSTD and I had to take it off after 20,000 miles. It was just too hard.It was supposed to break in after a few thousand miles but the only thing that broke was my butt.In the end (no pun intended) I could only ride for about an hour before I hurt so bad I had to get off. I went to Rick Butler and he fixed my stock seats so that they are more comfortable. They don't look as good as the Corbins but they are much more comfortable.I sit a little higher and can move around more.I am 6'2". If you ask maybe he can address this issue for you spacificly.BTW i would be happy to sell the Corbins.

Mustang or Corbin Seat
Pegasus1300 replied to viragofan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have both the stock RSTD seat and the Yamaha Corbin Studed seat for the RSTD.The Stock seat was OK but not great and I wanted the studed look anyway.I bought a set of the Studded seats from a member here who didn't like them.I loved the looks they were just what I wanted but for any riding longer then a couple the hours they were miserable. They never broke in and I put over 20,000 mi on it,plus enough with the wife on the back that it should have broken in also. They don't break in you just break down.I still love the looks but just cannot ride very far on them.I sent my stock seat to Rick Butler of this site to modify them and they are much better. You may also wish to do the same before you spend big money an aftermarket seat.Rick's mod is less then $100 with postage and worth a try.He does not do the studded Corbin seat that Yamaha sells,I wish he did.My son has a Mustang seat on his 1993 Intruder and that changed it from a 2 tank ride to and all day ride so if you are getting a good price on the Mustang that might be worthwhile.Seats are so personal it is hard give advice.Good luck. -
You may see us (and the scoot) in a soup commercial
Pegasus1300 replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
I have seen it several times as well.Really cool to see you guys rolling along enjoying life after your healthy Campbell soup. BTW has anybody noticed the Ontario Canada ad in the back of the latest Rider magazine? It features an RSTD in front and an RSVR right behind.Cool ad. -
Who makes a zipper for........
Pegasus1300 replied to royalstar09's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
RoyalStar09 So what did you use for lense tint and where did you get it? I would like to tint the lower part of my RSTD a blue to match the bike. -
A friend of mine on another forum who also rides just sent me this.Even tho it is a bank ad that does not diminish the effect of the video. In my local riding club I have friends in their 70's and 80's who regularly ride with their wives and ride multiple days and lots of miles.Notice also that the bikes they are using are small and have very few ammenities.A good reminder that all we really need is 2 wheels a motor and the will to do it.Ride on Dream Rangers:cool10:

While beating information out of your dealer beat the warrenty information out of him.I saw you bought your bike used but it should still have the balance of the 5 year warrenty on it.Go to a Yamaha dealer and get an accessory cataloge from him,it will have the part numbers that you need.As to what you have It is a 2009 Yamaha Royal Star Venture BUT you may see it listed as: Star royal Star Venture 2nd gen venture 99-09 Venture 99-11 Royal Star Venture RSV XVZ1300 Venture XVZ and a combination of letters after it All of the abouve refer to your bike . I am sure there are a lot of other ways/names to call it but the Ventures from 1999 to current are all the same with the difference of color. If it will fit a 99 Venture it will fit your bike.If it will fit any Venture from 1999 to 2011 it will fit your bike.If you see something you want but aren't sure it will fit your bike contact the supplier and ask, they will be happy to help. All list an email and many have an 800# There isn't a lot left for these bikes outside of what Yamaha makes and even they are cutting down on their assortment.Go to www.starmotorcycles.com look on the left side of the page and click on the Royle Star link.It will take you to the Venture page.Click on accessories and it will take you to everything Yamaha has for your bike with part numbers. Then take these to your favorite online supplier and get the best price you can. Also check out ebay, there is always something there and this site has a good classified section that has accessories also. BTW you have a beautiful color combination there congratulations.I have been riding these Yamaha V-4 since 1986 and they are just great. I have an 08 Royal Star Tour Deluxe now and it is fantastic. This is a great site with lots of information and very friendly people.Read the posts and the tech section and don't be afraid of dumb questions. We were all new once. -
The hot stuff right now is Caswell Tank sealer. It is what the British bike restorers are using to seal/restore/protect their tanks from ethanol and cure leaks.Their web site is www.caswellplating.com You can buy it from Colorado Norton Works a little cheaper then other places. This stuff works great much better then Kreem or anything else.but it is a little expensive.CNW seems to have the best price. www.coloradonortonworks.com

The entire song is seldom sung and that is a shame. When I was in the 6th grade (long time ago) if we had detention for some reason, you could not do any other homework until you had passed off to the teacher ,Miss Schilling, the 2nd and 3rd verses of the national anthem. Our version however had your 2nd and 4th as the 2nd and 3rd.I have never seen that version before, thank you for posting it.

Half time show dumb da dumb dumb..........dumb. And why oh why do we have to suffer thru lounge singers trying to do serious music. Not only did the National Anthem get butchered, but also God Bless America. I couldn't stay in the room, it hurt to listen to.

jumps out of gear.
Pegasus1300 replied to PBJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
From personal experience this is the beginning of the second gear problem and will get worse as time goes on until it wont stay in gear at any rpm/torque/acceleration. -
Or take them to a powder coater and have them done in gloss black,or make template and cut a piece out of thin sheet metal to glue in there.3M trim adheseve should work.

How are your brake pads holding up?
Pegasus1300 replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have 33000+ on my 08 RSTD and I am still running the factory original pads.I brake with the front front brake mostly and use my gears to slow down.I also make it a practice to remove the pads and swap them inside to out side each spring.I have replacement pads ready to go on when I need them but haven't needed them yet. We'll see what I find this spring. -

While you have the hub splines apart as per Kreg be sure to reach in and put a little wheel bearing grease on the needle bearing inside the hub.It is very expensive and a propriatery Yamaha part.
