  1. You should forward this to the AMA as they are very interested in legal action against people who kill others in traffic accidents with only minor consequences to themselves
  2. Ruffy Prayers are never late and always welcome thank you. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. The bike came home today and I am amazed at the lack of damage to it.The front shell of the fairing will have to be replaced along with the windshield, trim panal head light trim ring. Also the chrome front fender trim,rt leg shield rt engine guard.Rt bag guard, drivers seat,rt rear speaker housing, rear trunk lid and gas tank and the rear wheel (I think) and tire.I know this sounds like a long list but it really doesn't look that bad.It will be interesting to see what the total adds up to. Cynthia and I both have to go in next week to have more surgury on our wrists, she on Monday, me on Friday. Otherwise I think we are doing quite well. The really hard part is going to be sorting out the insurance payments and medical bills.Fixing the bike will be the easy part. If you are in the area (Central Utah/Mt Pleasant area)) stop by and say hello.
  3. Well we are home.It was a long ride from Grand Junction CO to Spring City UT.We got home Sat 7/2.We spent a nice Sunday and a great 4th then spent the week in follow ups with the Doctors. We seem to be healing well tho both oF us will probably have to have our wrists redone and the road ahead on the other injuries is bound to be long. So what happened? We blew a rear tire on our 2008 RSV.Tire pressures were set that morning as we left home and the bike has less the 3000mi.We were traveling east on US 40 just barely into CO.We had just passed an oncoming semi and there was a large break in the oncoming traffic. When the tire blew we were traveling around 65 and the bike began to swerve around.I was able to slow the bike quite a bit before we went down and I am sure this made our injuries less severe. The couple riding with us were the only ones who could get cell phone service and called dispatch for the EMTs from Rangely. Also on the scene was a vacationing UHP officer and his Trauma Nurse wife. They took charge until Rangely EMT arrived.Inour religion we believe in the laying on of hands for healing.Another off duty officer arrived of our same Religion and helped Bruce our riding friend give us such a blessing.Itwas decided to fly us to StMarys in Grand Junction. Both Cynthia and I had punctured/collasped lung yet they able to get us over the mountains without placing tubes in our lungs in the field. They could not get any veins in me for IVs.There happened to be an ER doctor riding with Rangely EMT who was able to place an IV in my knee.Yes that hurts a lot but it works.I tell you all this because We believe that God looked out for us and brought us through a very dangerous time and we are very gratefull for that and for all your prayers and kind thoughts to Him on our behalf. We both have lots of family and friends in the area and they have been taking very good care of us.Thanks to Dave Harris for making the original post and to Blackowl for the phone call and the flowers.I also want to thank all of you who have donated to the fund that made that possible. What a great group.
  4. Just a quick up date for you all.Cynthia and I are doing well.We are going for walks around the hospital floor and moving and exercizing as much as we can.Cynthia has a broken rt wrist and thumb. collar bone and scapula. Also 7 ribs on the left side and bruises and a raspberry on her chin from open face helmet. Collapsed lung on left but now reinflated. She is getting around well and has a great attitude. She has already had her wrist operated on and the break repaired. I (Paul) have a broken lft wrist,9 broken ribs on the right side, so as you can see bwtween the 2 of us we make one person.I got apretty good rap on the head but since we were both wearing our helmets no real damage done.Lots of bruising and sore but getting around ok.Rt lung collapased but reinflated and fine now. I will havE wrist surgury tomorrow morning, and we should leave for home sat morning.Thank you all for you well wishes and flowers. It is so wonderfull to feel the faith and power of the prayers of so many and we are so grateful for a God that has provided this method of interaction with eaCh other and Him.When I get home on my own omputer I will post what I remember of the accident and a progress report on us and bike.
  5. i was able to borrow a computer from the hospital tonight for a few minutes.I wont post ant details now Black Owl your phone call the other night came at just the right moment.I amsorry I could not talk to you at that moment but yes Pal I knew who was calling I just coudnt figure out how you knew.Thank you very much. The beautiful flowers arrived this afternoon they are just wonderful. Cynthia and I will be releases from the hospital on Sat Morning and should be home by night.I will post the details at that time.
  6. I love Bluegrass. We watch Song of the Mountain every Sunday night.
  7. What a treat Don. I have always loved those Mopars. When I graduated from High School in 64 I bought a 64 Valient V200 with the 273 V8 with 4 speed.Only a 2 barrel but it was fast.In 1968 I bought a Roadrunner 383 4 speed.I broke it in by driving it from New Orleans to Salt Lake City in less then 24 hrs. The faster it went the better it felt. There was no traffic in 1968 and no cops. Those two I wish I had back but I do still have my 1965 Sport Fury 383 2 barrel automatic.
  8. I'll go with the 2nd post in this series from Old Bear get her the Olympic Airglides. My wifes are in black but they are still very cool, they come with a water proof/warm liner so they can be worn 3 of 4 seasons. She can still wear her shorts underneath and slip the Airglides off atr a stop or the end of the ride.I really can't say enough about their quality and functionality.I also wear the Airglide jacket in Safty yellow.
  9. At the top of the page you will see an ad for Jake Wilson.com They have them in rt angle and 45 degree angle both in chrome.
  10. I have personally run a 1st gen.motor to 160k and that motor is now in another bike and going strong.I have two friends who put over 200k on their motors and they were still going strong but they wanted something different. The biggest problem is the plastic on the 1st gens gets old and brittle.RSTDs have little or no plastic, suspension parts and brakes are easy to fix or replace and if the paint fades while a repaint is almost like a new bike:)The RSTD motor is basicly the same motor as in the 1st gen and the Venture and older V MAX so lots of parts, so even if you do wear it out and you still like the bike rebuild it.These are not 50k throwaways
  11. So now that we have all had a good laugh at your expense(and well worth it I might add) when I have to trailer mine I found I could put soft tie straps or seperate soft ties around the lower tripple tree with one one behind the fork and the othe in front and the rear strap soft tied around the passenger floor board mount. No pictures ,sorry.Maybe later today if I get a chance. I go with Eagleeye tho put those eyebolts everywhere.
  12. To answer your question no he is no longer in production. There are others tho, just do a search on this forum and you should find something.
  13. When you pull your bags you do not have undo the cross bar you can pull them as a complete unit just by undoing the 4 screws in each bag and spreading the bags at the front a little and sliding them back.Makes the bags much easier to remove. As has been said you can do a tire change just by putting a 2 x 4 under the centerstand and removing the right muffler. You can also grease the wheel splines this way but if you are going into get the pins and the needle bearing it is easier to pull the bags.I went from an 83 to an 86 to an 87 to an 88 then back to an 87 but never wanted the smaller bags again.I wish the RSTD/RSV bags were as nice.
  14. Since you are keeping your 86 I would seriously consider the RSTD.I have had 4 1st gens an RSTD and now a RSV and for me I loved the RSTD the most.Although I have visions of taking all these long trips I never seem to have time/money to do that but the RSTD let me do some pretty good jaunts (37000mi in 3 years) in comfort yet it was so nice for those rides to work and short 1 or 2 day rides.I loved my wife loved and I cried when I wrecked it. I now have an RSV and while I do enjoy all the electronics and Cynthia likes the trunk,we still miss the RSTD. BTW I stilll have my 87 1st gen as well.
  15. If you haven't already check around the bike and in your transport vihicle to see if it fell out before you got to the dealer. That's what happened to me the 1st time oh so many years ago.
  16. Hmmmmmmmmmmm I forgot I posted to this thread.Well I can no longer say I haven't dropped it. I have now dropped it a total of once but that was enough. When I was done dropping it the insurance company totaled it. I waited 12 years for that bike and now it"s gone. But I got a real nice RSV for the settlement.A 2008 S model with only 509 miles on it.
  17. wiggle your tuner around. It may be that the connector pins are not making good contact.I had the same symptoms.Back in the day this was a known problem, which I had on my 83 and later on the 86 as the miles piled up.I had to hard wire the 83 to fix it.Just refastening the connections worked for the 86.
  18. I have made it a practice to swap rear inside for outside at the start of every riding season. In Februray of this year I replaced thr rears with 36000+ on them. There wasn't much left and they wouldn't have gone another 1000 mi.Unfortunately I wrecked that bike a month later and it is gone.I use the EBC HH.
  19. I have tried to fix 2 of these units and been unsuccessful. That doesn't mean it can't be done but I couldn't figure one out.The problem is that the gears are held in place by a punch mark in the mounting holder and removing the mark also removes enough material that I couldn't put in a new punch.I ended up replacing the unit off ebay.I now grease that gear on a regularly with LaBelles 109 locomotive grease an item found in hobby shops that sell model railroading supplies. It is plastic compatable and will not cause the gear to become brittle.
  20. I will be spending a lot of time here.Thanx I think:confused07:
  21. If he's not I am but I understand Gus has first choice. That is what I want for the 08 I am getting.
  22. I am sorry to hear about your mishap.I also went down about a month ago from following too close and the insurance company totaled the bike.On another site I visit one of the members posted this. Now please this is in NO WAY any kind of indictment to you or anybody elses rideing. It just seemed like an appropiate time and place to post it. I hope this helps some of you it has been beneficial to me. The generally accepted safe following distance is 2 seconds from the vehicle in front of you. If you are riding in a staggered formation this means that you would be 2 seconds behind the bike directly in front of you and 1 second behind the bike that is in the other side of the lane. To determine your following distance watch for the vehicle in front of you to pass some fixed point, such as a mile marker or tar snake, and count “one motorcycle, two motorcycle.” That would be the equivalent of a two second following distance. Please note that your instincts for car driving may not transfer well to motorcycle riding. Bernt Spiegel, a German researcher of the human/motorcycle interface, found that riders constantly follow vehicles more closely on their motorcycles than they did in their cars. Spiegel conducted an experiment where he had motorcyclists follow behind a car, but staggered to the left, at a distance that the riders felt was sufficient. Then while proceeding along at a pace set by the car, the car driver would randomly initiate an emergency stop. Spiegel found that the vast majority of riders did not get their cycles stopped quickly enough to remain behind the vehicle, but in most cases passed the rear bumper of the cars; indicating that if the rider had not been staggered they would have impacted the vehicle. The results were not replicated when riders were driving their cars. What I take from Spiegel’s findings is that instincts formed from car driving will let us down when riding. We must practice, practice, practice, ride, ride and ride. Doing so will train ourbrains.
  23. I have an 87 anniversary edition with a little over 60k on it.My 86 was parted out and the engine is now in a friends 84(?).I ride with 2 other guys who havean 86 and another 87 and there is an 83 Royale on KSL.com in Salt Lkae City now.I also just met a man inFilmore UT with 4 but one has a burned up engine ( lost all the coolent).
  24. There are not many used ones in the west at the moment.I wrecked my RSTD and have been looking for a Venture and not had much luck finding one I like West of the MIssissippi R.I have looked on Craigs List,Cycle Trader and Ebay Motors.I did find one yesterday in Colorado on CT and that is the one I am going for.Insurance check should be here tomorrow.
  25. I had a 47 convertible chev wish I still did.I put a 301 GMC six in it with carbs on a homemade manifold. Not a lot of top end but man was it quick out of the hole.
