  1. The 08 is my favorite year and the fastest color in the Blue/Black.I liked white wall tires on mine and so I used Dunlop 404 or the Metzler 880 which doesn't come in a size for the rear in WWW. I wish i hadn't wrecked it,and would buy a replecement if I could fine one close to me in UT. BTW welcome to the family. This is a great place with lots of good people.
  2. 1987 Venture Royal 5th anniversary ed 66k.
  3. As I remember there are 2 phillips head screws on either end that you remove then it comes out.You will also have to lay on your back to see them.BTW why are you removing that piece? If you are just taking off the bags they can come off as a single unit with no need to remove the reflector by itself.Just remove the 4 bolts inside the bags then slightly pull the bags out and up and they will slide back and off the bike.It is also then much easier to remove the reflector if you really have to.
  4. Wait, wait why would you wait,it isn't going to heal on its own and you don't know how much of that 14 months its going to take to get it done.As far as I know there is no memo or recall that has been issued but it is a known problem that Yamaha and the dealers have tried to ignore for 11 years. Some dealers are very good about working with their riders others are not.If you don't get satisfaction from one try another.
  5. AT 5 quarts you are way overfilled. It only takes 3.8 with the filter change. Your level in the sight glass should be at about the middle.Drain a little out then remove the top of your air filter housing and clean out the oil that has gathered there from the breather pushing the overfill up in there.
  6. so has anybody else had trouble with short life on the HID?
  7. Looks like it was a good trip. Two things I notice about your bike The leather cover and the color matched rotor covers.Did you make those items yourself or where did you get them? I have an 87 Blonde (The Golden Hind).
  8. The car is a BMW and according to the local news here in Utah the Biker ran into the car.I saw him on Fox 13 news tonight giving thanks to all who saved him. There are almost no marks on him.!!!! I go down whereing all my gear and come out with a broken wrist ribs and dizzy spells go figure.I am glad he is going to be alright with only minor injuries.
  9. You know looking at the pictures of Tom's helmet and clothing from the wreck brings back too many no so fond memories of ours in June except one and that is how quick Black Owl was to search out and send us flowers in the hospital.I know Tom will appreciate the effort also and all of the well wishes from this group. We sure did.Tom get well and back on the road soon. Paul and Cynthia.
  10. Metzler only has the front tire in our size. The back is too wide a 170.
  11. I have used the yellow foam plugs for years.I got used to them in the steel mill I worked in and found them comfortable for me. I began using then for riding about 15 years ago and found them to work well under the helmet and with the head phones.I seldom ride with a passenger so can't say how a conversation would go.
  12. Ditto the above post.If you move down to the next bolt in the fender stay you will haave the clearence you need and the guards will look even better.BTW after 2 crashes with the bars I can say they are more then meer decoration. They actually work!!!!
  13. I liked the Utopia back rest on both my RSTD and My RSV. I found them reasonably priced high quality and comfortable.By changing the shaft I was able to take the one from the RSTD to the Venture. They worked with the stock seats the Yamaha Studded seats on the RSTD and the Butler Mod seats. It is easily adjustable even while riding.
  14. Unless you are paying extra for it your M/C insurance wont help you as the driver. If you are hit by someone else their coverage will take care of you up to the limits then your personal medical coverage kicks in unless you are with one of those companys that wont cover motorcycle related accidents. This is so big a problem the AMA is continually lobbying congress to address it.They passed a law several years ago that if you were on a legal form of transportation they couldn't discriminate but they still do. Our bills from our recent accident due to a blown rear tire are going to amount to close to $200,000.00. My wife has AFLAC and the passenger coverage from the M/C and I have Colonial Life supplementals as well as regular medical from our jobs or we would be sunk. When I replace the bike I will be looking into driver's medical on my motorcycle insurance.
  15. For a change consider powder coating the Barons ends. There is even a powder coat you can't tell from chrome.
  16. Just went thru this in April with my 08 Tour Deluxe.Cosmetic damage only but Allstate totaled it out. They offered me almost $10,000 minus the $500.00 deductable so I got about $9400.Bike had 38000 mi some accessories. Now I get to do it again with the 08 Venture only this time with a broken wrist.Again only cosmetic damage but they are talking total, but haven't made an offer yet.Only 3800 miles this time.I'll see what the buyback is,I may keep it and trike it since I can't keep them upright anymore:( If you buy back you will get a salvage title. If you plan on keeping it not a big deal.If you have warrenty left you will loose that.Yamaha won't warrenty a salvage title.Good Luck and sorry to hear about the broken leg.BTW you will need to get a claim # from you bike insurance for your doctor/hospital and when your pip runs out you will need a letter from the insurance stating that either there was no pip for you or it is exhausted.Get a copy of your accident report asap as you will need it for insurance and for any supplemental you may have(Aflac or Colonial Life etc).Start pestering the hospital for a copy of your bill.My accident was June 23 and I just got that last Friday.
  17. Well having just gone down on my 2008 RSV because of a blown rear tire I would say REPLACE THE TIRES NOW. Yes I ment to shout. My bike has only 3000 mi on it. We had just left on a short trip,I had aired up the tires,38 front 42 rear. 40 lbs in the rear suspension 4lbs front.Tire blew 4 hrs into the trip just over the state line from UT into CO going east past Vernal. The bike had 509 miles on it from the first owner and had sat garaged 3 years.Shouldn't make a difference but maybe it did.I also had D404.So i say again don't be cheap go get new tires. The 250 they will cost as compared to the 100s of thousands this is costing me not to mention the personal and family anguish is cheap cheap cheap.
  18. Oh Dave yer killing me killing me.My wrist hurts twice as much today from seeing your pictures.Ishould of been there. BTW if you haven't been on the TRA site David Day is doing better, even up and walking.Rt eye is taped as the eyes won't work together but he can see out of them seperately. Be careful coming home.Thanx for the pictures see u when you get back.
  19. The lid doesn't come by itself you have to buy the whole bag at 1250.00 msrp.I just went thru this with my 08RSTD in March and now again with the 08 RSV I replaced it with.Allstate totaled the RSTD,I don't know what they will do yet with the RSV.
  20. So it is now the end of July, how are you feeling about your trike?Did the installer make things right for you?How about the part that was destroyed in the fire?
  21. Hi Ginny I am so glad that Tom has come thru so well. I know just how he feels.Cynthia and I are pondering our riding future as well after our blow out and wreck a month ago on the new 08 RSVS. Still dealing with broken wrists and ribs but glad to be alive to do so. Looks like some one has already offered you what you need for the repair. If you decide not to repair I could use your windshield for my 87.
  22. Has anyone who has tried a voyager kit also put a car tire on with the kit? Seems like a logical addition to me.You aren't going to lean much if any and you would get a better/wider contact patch for power delivery/breaking.
  23. not disagreeing with you but my experience was different. The one I did came right out using a blind bearing puller and a little heat.I don't remember how I installed it that was 10 years ago but my usual process is bearing in freezer for 30 min and heat housing.Did drive bike for many miles afterwards with no problems.Maybe I was just lucky???
  24. Gary sorry to hear about your difficulties.I am still catching up on things after our wreck.I hope Monday goes well for you.Just remember tho no matter what the price without you around they are no bargin.Get well soon.
  25. while you are in there you should also consider replacing the needle bearing that is way back in there. It is also a wheel bearing, often gets neglected and is a proprietary Yamaha bearing so somewhat expensive, but worth doing.
